For the first time in years I am not cooking! Having been unemployed for 19 months, I am temping for my former employer and if I don't work I don't get paid. In years past I would take Wednesday off and start the preparation. This year two other sisters are stepping in, taking today off to prep and others are contributing side dishes. I just need to bake the bread tomorrow and show up!

Yay - I am glad to have a job! Best to all of you for this holiday. I hope you all have much to be thankful for!

Teresa, It's wonderful that you have a job. 19 months is a long time to be unemployed (if you don't want to be.) My DH and I retired 1 year ago and I can't imagine having a job now. However, I did work for 40 years. That's long enough.

I am going to DD's and taking Cornbread Dressing, Giblet Gravy, some Ham, Cranberry Jezebel and Spinach Madeleine. Others will be making other things and bringing. DD will cook the turkey, Bread Pudding with Jack Daniels Sauce and and I don't know what else and there are two more adults to bring everything else. Sounds like a feast to be thankful for to me!

Most of us are under winter weather advisories and the news said to leave tonight if you're going away for Thanksgiving. Drive safe and eat hearty!

On the menu at our place:
Roast duck and chicken
Stuffing
Mashed potatoes
Corn
Noodles
Pumpkin pie

Here's a beverage that mom's been serving since I can remember: Hawaiian Punch mixed with Squirt soda! They used to make a Ruby Red Squirt but I haven't seen it in years. Anyone ever try it? It's refreshing!

Mom and I aren't feeling too well (We talked to my sister on the phone,and she said there's something going around) but we'll pull through. It'll be a small gathering at least three of us (mom, dad and I) and maybe my uncle if the weather's good enough (a small possibility) but still I look forward to the meal!

I am not cooking the main meal this year either for the first time in a long, long time. We'll go to my Sis-in-laws's around 3:00 or so. Dinner is "scheduled" for 4:00 so we'll probably eat around 5:00. LOL

I'll have a nice, relaxing morning in the kitchen, maybe a nap before we go. Ahhhhh....
Four days off work is nice too. I'll cook my own turkey on Friday or Saturday just for DH and I.....and the freezer. It's a 25 pounder!

I am bringing a broccoli salad, margiene's Spicery Rolls, cranberry orange sauce, Pumpkin pie and Habanero Gold with cream cheese and crackers for snackin'.

I am truly thankful to have such bounty to share and loved ones to share it with.

Just the two of us, but we still make a feast. We'll get up late and cook during the afternoon and eat around seven. Turkey, plain sage bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, white sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, creamed carrots, dinner rolls [I don't eat them with my meal but Christy does and I like a sandwich on them], MY favorite jellied cranberry sauce, olives, pumpkin pie and chocolate pie. That should take care of us for a while. LOL. The brussel sprouts have been my choice of veg for the day since I was a kid and our family always made creamed carrots on Thanksgiving and Christy loves them so I'll make a few. It's fun to have a little of a lot of things. I think that's partly what makes Thanksgiving so much fun as a meal. We like to use several small plates. One for the 'gravy stuff', the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy. Then a veggie plate and finally a small plate with the the condiments: cranberry sauce and green and black olives. Eat some of the gravy plate, then to the condiments for some cranberry, then to the veggies...lol.. Fun. That's what a feast is all about.

Brad, Christy loves Hawaiian Punch and I get it for her once in a while. I remember squirt but not a ruby red one. Bet it was good!

All this talk about turkey this week has made be want one. Like Chase mentioned, ours is in October. Think I'll roast a chicken this weekend. Unless anyone would like to send me some of their leftovers?

We'll be going to SIL for a meal around 2:30 (early so the men can go deer hunting).

By request, I'm taking green beans and dressing. Just to prove I can cook other things (smile), I'm also taking Katiec's sweet potato and caramelized onion casserole, a cranberry walnut relish from MasterCoo... has orange marmalade in it, and ice cream pie with strawberries.

Years ago when I used to play cards with a group,at one of my friends houses, she served the ice cream pie and we all went ga-ga over it. Crust is 2 1/2 T. butter, melted and 1/2 C chopped pecans. Mix and spread in pie dish to form the crust. Bake 12 minutes at 350 degrees. Chill and fill with 1 pt. of softened vanilla ice cream. Freeze until a few minutes before you serve. Top slices with fresh or frozen strawberries when ready to serve.

Again, a happy Thanksgiving to all as we gather to count our many blessings.

Happy T-day, glad to be around everyone's virtual table!

This will be the coldest Thanksgiving Minnesota has had in more than 20 years. I ran out to the mailbox to get my paper and my lungs hurt. Fifteen days ago it was 75 degrees and I was canoeing. The windchill is MINUS 8 today with the sun shining. I am glad I did not sign up to run the Thanksgiving Day 5K in downtown Minneapolis. I need more time to adjust to these cold temps!

No Lou - I don't feel guilty for just baking the bread. I am enjoying this day, lounging around, baking bread and finishing a website. Especially because in years past I would use a vacation day on Friday to recover from the two days of cooking. There are no vacation days when you are a temp!

I shared the snow with Alexa. I was so surprised to look out the window and see snow flurries! That's the first I can ever remember snow in Philadelphia on Thanksgiving. It's gone now but the weather is unusually cold.

I will be heading over to Mom's soon. My brother (and his two cockatoos) are here from CA and my niece, her husband and two sons are coming up from NC. My younger son lives nearby so he will be there, too, so that's eight total. We used to have a much bigger crowd but as the kids grew up and had families of their own, not everyone ends up in the same place at the same time. We always eat at regular supper time.

Sometimes I forget that Thanksgiving is only an American holiday! Funny.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I'm also glad to be enjoying Thanksgiving virtually with all of you. Max went to our DIL's parents home, two hours away, bearing cranberry relish, cranberries baked with port, the best roast veggies we've ever made (loads of fennel, red onion, Brussels sprouts and carrots dressed with olive oil, dijon, balsamic vinegar, a little honey and some herbs)and two bottles of wine. Max did a most of the work, I washed my hands a lot and tried to help.

I'm at home coughing and sneezing uncontrollably - really rotten timing - but I'm glad he went. He'll come home with turkey and sides for me for tomorrow and we have a four day weekend. Then only four more workdays and he retires, we are both happy about that.

stuffed turkey is in the oven and smells heavenly. I should make turkey more often, it's too easy and I love it.
