Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

On the menu today is a stuffed chicken, a ham, mashed potatoes and gravy (both instant-we're having brown gravy), sweet potatoes, stuffing, corn, creamed onions (my contribution-thought I'd give them a try and we all love onions), and of course, pumpkin pie.

I'm not big on turkey, anyway *grins*. But I like pretty much everything else we're having (save for the sweet potatoes).

Just my parents, my nephew, and myself today. But looking forward to eating and spending time with them.

Already had two traditional Thanksgiving dinners this year........we celebrated Canadian T'day last month (half the family is Canadian) and a partial family pre-T'day dinner this last Sunday as everyone is off to other relatives today. So my sis and I will be enjoying prime rib......we've had enough turkey for a while :-) To be served with hot horseradish sauce, roasted potatoes, mashed yams with goat cheese and Brussel sprouts in mustard lemon sauce and salad. Apple pie for dessert. And lots of wine :-))

I was pushing for Yorkshire pudding as well - what other reason is there to have prime rib???? - but sis, who is doing most of the cooking, thinks too much trouble and we have enough starch :-) I will probably fix a small roast myself closer to Christmas and will definitely make the Yorki pudding then!! I could seriously consume the entire batch myself!

No parade for us this year...too cold. I worked all week outdoors, brrr.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We are having a roast turkey, a roast leg of lamb, two steamed fishes, various sides, two pies, and hazelnut-chocolate gelato, brie cheese gelato, and vanilla gelato. And some appetizers.

I am only making the lamb, fish, a creamed corn side, and the gelato. Others are bringing or making everything else, yaay!

18 or 19 people people coming, including: 3, yes three, pescatarians; my friend Mike who will be seated by the pescatarian gal in hopes that they will rub together and generate sparks; my French daughter; my German-Appalachian friend and his Chinese boyfriend; a ballet teacher; and a couple of "strays". Full house!

(typed but didn't send. So, pretend all of the above is past tense)

John, you sure have an eclectic group there. I hope your Pescatarian and Mike did manage to create some sparks, and I'm sure everything was delicious although I had to pause at the brie cheese gelato, and I'm still thinking about that. I suppose it was good, because many times brie is served with sweet, like that brie and fruit in crust thing...

Dcarch, I hope you enjoyed your dinner and are still around to talk about it, romaine is sure getting some bad press lately.

Brad, your dinner sounds perfectly festive, although I do like turkey and I'd rather have sweet potatoes than the traditional mashed white ones. I also LOVE creamed onions, yum. Although your group was small, it's always nice to have family together.

gardengal, I hope you get your Yorkshire puddings soon. And just think, you really can eat them all yourself. (grin) Makes it all worthwhile....

sleevendog, it was cold here too, didn't make record cold, which is 7F, but it made it down to 12F. We spent about an hour outside setting hay and repairing a hay feeder and coaxing the very cold tractor to start, and that was enough. I don't blame you for skipping the parade, a week outside is more than sufficient in this weather.

Because our family dinner will be on Saturday we had chickpea flour waffles and a venison stirfry, definitely not the traditional Thanksgiving Day meal but still better than I had anticipated. And tomorrow I cook.....

Belated happy T-day to all! Neighbors and their family provided our 'traditional' meal, which was welcoming and wonderful : ) DH and I took a break from remodel work and actually spent half the day snuggled in bed with the dog and cat, watching The Godfather. I felt so guilty... but oh so good!

Yes it is, Annie. I have plenty of creamed onions left over if you would like to make the trek down here for some *grins*.

2MD, nothing wrong with that. We all need a little me-time, which explains my lack of posts and comments lately. Taking time to take care of myself, which is something we all should do. I find herbal tea is a big help through my day.

Sounds like everyone had an enjoyable holiday! We don't go out on Black Friday, so we're spending time here at home (as usual, but I do long to go out and enjoy some company-just remaining optimistic that will happen soon).

Eating some green beans with bacon and onions for lunch. I had some stuffing and gravy for dinner last night. Might have some brown gravy over bread for dinner tonight. I had pumpkin pie for breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. Hey, we gotta make the most of life every day, so it's not a bad thing, right? ;)

Annie, the brie cheese gelato was a hit with almost everyone. Someone said it tasted like a cheesecake. Brie has a mild flavor so it works much better than the blue cheese gelato I tried previously. I used about 4 oz brie to about 1 qt custard.

Brad, gotta live life fast, while the living is good!

John, so you made a regular custard, like vanilla ice cream type, then added the brie and froze it, like ice cream or gelato? Melted the brie, or just softened? Now you really have some wheels turning here...

I know what you mean, Annie. Hoping for a brighter future for all of us! I may be moving next month in with a friend who is looking for a couple of roommates, and this whole year has been stressful, but I am still here, breathing and doing my best. Spent yesterday and this morning with my best friend, and it was a good time (and much needed-I don't get out of the house very much anymore). But I digress. Just gotta have faith, hope, and of course, love.
