Pick up the grandsons tomorrow

I meet my DD half way tomorrow to trade cars and bring the 2 year old and 5 year old grandsons home with me till Sunday. She lives a little over an hour away, and her in-laws are here for a week. They come every year for their son's birthday, and then take them to Napa Valley for his gift for wine tasting and buying wines. Both of the guys love wines, and the gals go along for the fun. It makes gift giving easy as we just give our SIL a check to spend on wines he likes that trip. For weeks after the trip, boxes of wine arrive at their door.

So I will enjoy having our darling grandsons with us. But by Sunday I will be one tired grandma. Monday I will veg!

Enjoy every single moment. They grow up so fast.

Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy! I haven't seen my 4 older grandkids (now aged 9-14) in 10 months. And I miss them EVERY day. We lived 45 minutes away for 5 years before they moved 2000 miles away. The two year old is going to run you ragged. The five year old is going to crack you up with what comes out of his/her mouth. You will have special memories for the rest of your life!

I have delayed the robin again girls. I am so sorry but I have been in the bed on and off for the last few days with a terrible headache from my allergies. For some reason they are trying to do me in this year! I will get it out first thing in the am. Was hoping to drop it in the mail on my way to the doctors office tomorrow, but they called me back and cancelled my appointment. So I will suffer all the way to the mailroom! LOL! I can only see the one door and it's not personally my style, so I won't comment on that. However, I don't think you're going to save all that much having it finished by your painter. Maybe labour rates are really low where you are, but I would expect to pay at least $300 for that. There's prep involved, and the staining, and then at least 2 coats of finish. It's a lot more work than the walls. That said, if you're looking to save money, this is probably a reasonable DIY project. I'm painting my own doors. But for me, it was a savings of $750 (for 2 doors), and I don't need to pay someone else to do it for me. Another thought, these are fibreglass doors? If you're not a big faux finish type, you probably don't want to try DIYing a stain finish on something that's not wood. And your painter will definitely charge more, because it's a stain look, but it's not actually stain. That's a much complicated process. If you want the wood look the manufacturer is offering, get the stain finish from the manufacturer.

There is still hope! I've been in touch with the rescue group that has her and have filled out an application with them. I'm not "local" to them, but they'll consider us with a strong vet reference. The foster mom said that she never broke out with parvo symptoms, so they plan to watch her for about another week just to make sure she is through the woods. Keep your fingers crossed!

I think I feel sorrier for the pig than for Mason, hehe. Ours won't meet the bandsaw until October, but we got a call today that our side of beef is ready. Had Gertrude chops braised in wine w/garlic and rosemary last night. I'm not sure I like it when the guy who grows our pigs tells me their names. Annie and David, you reminded me that I still have a big old slab of fresh bacon (and a new masterbuilt smoker)and I need to pick Ms. Annie's brains about what to do with it.

Have fun! I go get four year old grandaughter Thursday for two weeks, can't wait. Then she comes back in June for the summer. I cherish the time with her.

Well, this is the end of the first day. Just put the older one down at 8pm and had to install a night light for him too. He does fine in his mom's room these days, but with her not there tonight to sleep in the same room, he needs a night light. He used to sleep in his uncle's room right next to the bathroom, but this is the newest sleeping arrangement since the holidays when all the bedrooms were full.

I loved rocking the 2 year old and singing songs before putting him down. Don't get to do that much and probably not for much longer. Maybe by then, our older son will provide us with a grandchild. He is marrying in September.

We got out the Bristle Blocks I have saved for over 30 years. I was pleased to see that they were selling them again by the time the grands were born. Mr. Potato Head has been put together several different ways today, and the Fisher Price 30 year old barn, animals and farmer family are scattered about too.

My back aches! Should be fine by morning.
