Pick up the grandsons tomorrow

I meet my DD half way tomorrow to trade cars and bring the 2 year old and 5 year old grandsons home with me till Sunday. She lives a little over an hour away, and her in-laws are here for a week. They come every year for their son's birthday, and then take them to Napa Valley for his gift for wine tasting and buying wines. Both of the guys love wines, and the gals go along for the fun. It makes gift giving easy as we just give our SIL a check to spend on wines he likes that trip. For weeks after the trip, boxes of wine arrive at their door.

So I will enjoy having our darling grandsons with us. But by Sunday I will be one tired grandma. Monday I will veg!

Enjoy every single moment. They grow up so fast.

My one and only turns 16 this summer.

Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy! I haven't seen my 4 older grandkids (now aged 9-14) in 10 months. And I miss them EVERY day. We lived 45 minutes away for 5 years before they moved 2000 miles away. The two year old is going to run you ragged. The five year old is going to crack you up with what comes out of his/her mouth. You will have special memories for the rest of your life!

The robbin has returned home all fat and chirpy. I want to thank all who participated and kept her hopping along. Special thanks to Tina who started, planned and provided the start up seeds. The robbin would have not existed without her. I just took a quick look at the contents and want to especially thank those who sent me special thank you seeds. That was a very nice and unexpected surprise. I'll find special places for them. I already had special plans for the snow man marigolds and they are SO cute. I'm starting those seeds today. Thank you thank you!!! A super special thanks too to whoever put in the Anasazi beans. What a treat. Now questions: 1) How do you start the 4 o'clocks. I have "just planted them" twice and never got anything. Tell me what to do so that the third time will be the charm Any tips or clues on the "formosa lilies"? It says constant moisture, like at the edge of a pond or just moist with good drainage??? Or whatever???? 3)Was there anything in there that you were really wanting but did not take???? If it came home, chances are excellent that you can still have it. Just let me know. Thanks again to all Beth

My granite is a dark brown Giallo. When I was looking for granite, I took along a sample piece of wood painted in the White Dove of my cabinets. When looking very closely at the granite, there are white specks in it. So, I thought it would be fine. Not so! Over all, it looks brown! It competed with the white tone of the cabinets. The crema is more beige than cream but it goes with white and it goes with brown. And, it is a good transition between the two. This is what I am hopng you can achieve. A good transition color in the tile I am not sure if this color will go with your counter. But, you can try a sample. Everyone on here who has the Rixi really loves it.

Thanks for the pictures and input! Unfortunately I now am past the point of no return!! They called me since they were ready to stain (I was at work). I popped home, nervous the entire drive -- they put the lighter of the two samples down under the cabinet area (maybe 5 feet) -- it is amazing how different it looks from different perspectives - I loved it from 10 feet away, but was nervous about the darkness when I stood 25 feet away.... this is basically the one in the upper right of the top picture (this is what they told me anyway). So after looking from various angles, I said let's do it! I definitely didn't want to go with the darker, and I didn't want to muck around with lightening it further. I had wanted medium to dark brown all along, and I figured to go with my gut.... I do have to say, I'M VERY NERVOUS how it will finally look, but I don't think I'd be able to tell between the 2 samples I was leaning towards anyway.... at least that's what I'm telling myself!!! :)

Having Trouble Warming up to Step Grandson

My oldest granddaughter is a step. She has 2 younger siblings. She was so hard to love. My husband and I made every attempt to attend every event she was in with her even if it was across town for us. We did it. She just never seem to appreciate anything we did. Now today she is in her 30's and has 2 children of her own. Different fathers for both children. One she married and divorced and we attended that wedding. The second baby daddy we have never met. But the little girl is also a doll. the oldest child seems so sad to me and she never seems to smile much in pictures. They live far from us. I do send cards and gifts for their birthdays and holidays. It is a hard situation to be in having a step grandchild. I would just be as friendly as you can with the little guy, play games with him, make cookies with him even boys enjoy this. Take him out on his own and see what he is all about. He will open up to you. One of the fond memories I have with my grandson is making chocolate chip cookies and my now 25 year old grandson said grandma that was so much fun when we made those cookies when I was little and you let me put in the ingredients you had already set out to do. I loved eating the chocolate chips I would steal one or two or 10. Grandchildren can enrich your life so much, step or real. Most of mine call from time to time just to say HI, grandma. I have 6 and 2 greats.

Have fun! I go get four year old grandaughter Thursday for two weeks, can't wait. Then she comes back in June for the summer. I cherish the time with her.

Well, this is the end of the first day. Just put the older one down at 8pm and had to install a night light for him too. He does fine in his mom's room these days, but with her not there tonight to sleep in the same room, he needs a night light. He used to sleep in his uncle's room right next to the bathroom, but this is the newest sleeping arrangement since the holidays when all the bedrooms were full.

I loved rocking the 2 year old and singing songs before putting him down. Don't get to do that much and probably not for much longer. Maybe by then, our older son will provide us with a grandchild. He is marrying in September.

We got out the Bristle Blocks I have saved for over 30 years. I was pleased to see that they were selling them again by the time the grands were born. Mr. Potato Head has been put together several different ways today, and the Fisher Price 30 year old barn, animals and farmer family are scattered about too.

My back aches! Should be fine by morning.
