What are your favorite bath towels/accessories and why?
Comments (26)Karin - the vanity is Dover Woods in a Beluga stain. The Ivory Supreme was found on a wide hunt for Super White - and a granite yard had both, which was very hard to find at the time this spring. We love it, but the stone has fissures and one piece broke during installation, and the replacement slab, even though I approved it, is not quite as beautiful as the original. Soon I will post pix when the bathroom is completed and you will see the other pieces from the original slab. Anyway, back to the towels - I wound up with Fieldcrest Luxury from Target - the colors are great and I think I like the feel of the towels. Tough to tell until a bunch of washes though. Still looking for other accessories.......See MoreFavorite Kitchen Accessories?
Comments (23)Books! In fact I was rearranging my kitchen shelves today. When we remodeled our kitchen, we added a big built-in bookcase on one wall. Originally I had cookbooks on one shelf and random decorative items (lots of pottery) on the others, but it was bugging me that there weren't enough books there. I like to be able to grab a book (not necessarily a cookbook) to leaf through while waiting for something to cook, or for a friend who's hanging in the kitchen to be able to do the same. So now I have a few different genres of books in my kitchen. I have the cookbooks, of course, and I have a small section of music books, another of knitting books (DD and I are obsessed with knitting right now), some decorating books, and some reference books (since my kids do their homework in the kitchen, having the dictionaries there makes sense). My other favorite "accessory" is a vase of fresh flowers on the table. I recently started buying an inexpensive bouquet at the grocery store each week during this long and snowy winter, and it makes me happy! Finally, on one of my shelves, serving as a bookend, is my grandmother's old cookie jar....See MoreWhere to put your favorite kitchen accessories.... or?
Comments (17)I like your space and what you plan to do with it. Here are a few suggestions. I hope not too expensive. 1. If not too expensive, add two more drawers, each slightly narrower to fit the space, above the big block of three. The small triangle to the left of each drawer could be covered with a bit of panelling to match the drawer fronts. I'd let this be dead space, although I HATE dead space and it could be used to store paper towels or waxed paper or whatever. 2. Above these drawers, I would use adjustable/removable shelving, either horizontal or vertical as shown. And yes, I would paint the interior of these. I would also, when money was available, plan to add a triangular door, folding in the middle and hinged to the vertical right side, and finished to match the drawers. 3. I love the tall shelf unit. Be SURE that the shelves are adjustable and that you have extra shelves made. 4 vertical shelf hanging strips (or whatever they are called) will be cheap, and then you only need four clips per shelf and you can adjust the shelves to any height you want them. Very little carpentry here, since the shelves do not need to be hung permanently. Again I would paint the inside of this unit and plan someday to add a couple doors to coordinate with the drawer fronts. 4. How deep is the shelf unit on the right? If it is only 15 or 18" deep, you don't need pullouts at all. If it is 28" deep, pullouts would be very nice but expensive. An alternative is a heavy duty shelf liner. I love Cushy Cupboards, which you can find on the Kitchens forum, because I can pull it forward to bring even heavy appliances from the back of the shelf to the front. 5. If you can't afford two extra drawers or decide against them, I would put in a couple horizontal shelves in the bottom of the triangle and then vertical shelves in the top. Comments (59)I'm another who prefers to shop locally, BUT I'm blessed with an abundance of local galleries/shows/etc. The joys of living in a resort town. Most of the time, when you're dealing with artists selling locally, they tend to be canvasses from 18"-24" on down. There is less investment with that size, the canvases are easily obtainable/transportable, etc. Sometimes, if you see someone's work that you like, you can ask if they have larger canvasses. Or, consider hanging a grouping, rather than a single piece. Also, there are just more materials in larger pieces, so you will pay more for them, all the way around. I do also like Etsy for paintings, but I'm careful to watch the sizes. When in doubt, cut a posterboard the size of your intended purchase and see how it looks. In terms of Etsy artists, I think someone above mentioned William Elliston, and I concur. His stuff is more stylized, but it might work better than a traditional piece in your room. For more traditional, I also like Melissa Mickelson: Karen Ilari...See Moresanborn5
