I love Brie with pears or apples. My favorite apple is the Winesap, but they are difficult to find in my area, so I usually settle for Cameo, Gala, or Golden Delicious. I love Brie with Red Bartlett pears or Red Anjou pears.

I agree with donna loomis...I love Brie, it's my favorite cheese.
You pair it with pears or apples and wow is all I can say.
Make sure it's room temp....
It's really good baked with brown sugar and walnuts melted over the top.

Me, me! Any apples with any cheese. Little man likes sharp, hard cheese on green or gala apples. Yum!

Of course, being a cheese fiend, I'd answer YES!!! to just about anything else with cheese!

Maytag Blue on apple slices is also wonderful!
And if you really want to be decadent make an apple pie then mix grated sharp chedder, butter and flour...like in Jessie's or whoever's cheese nips and use that for the top crust of the pie....
Serve with a little extra slice of the same sharp cheddar you used for the crust.
And one of my favorite salads is a bed of mesclun, some very skinny rings of sweet onion, slices of apple, crumbled Maytag blue and drizzled with my balsamic vinaigrette....and if I am making it for company, I will top with some toasted nuts....pecans, walnuts or pignole.

We always had a slice of Canadian mature cheddar cheese with apple pie when I lived in Canada. Just love the combination!

Here when I make apple pie, I hunt around for some cheddar in a supermarket, and the one we get here is usually from England or Norway.

My Dad, who passed away 9 1/2 yrs. ago did not like cheese and didn't want it on anything, even enchiladas. But he loved apple slices and cheese. When I was growing up almost every night we would eat a red delicious apple and a slice of cheese.

Thanks for a memory I hadn't thought of in a very long time.

Apples and Maytag blue....the BEST!!! Of course, as I've said before, I'll eat Maytag blue on dirt....

To stretch, I sometimes make a spread of cream cheese, Maytag, a little milk and toasted walnuts served on apple and pear slices. Of course, straight-up is the way to go!

I love cheese and apples, it's something I take to work for lunch, and a favorite snack. A good cave aged cheddar and a good apple - there's nothing like it.

I don't like cheese with apple pie, though. That I could never understand.

I like cheddar on apples. I prefer the Irish or English cheddar but grocery store cheddar works fine on them too. I seem to have an odd allergy to some of the nicer American cheddars (sharper ones are worse for me). The first bite tastes nice but then my head starts to clog up. I wonder if the Maytag would do that.

Gruyere cheese is really good with apples too. Some swiss cheese is a bit sweet and doesn't work for me with apples. Gruyere isn't and the nutty flavor complements the apples.

Better late to the tasting party than never, I say. I forgot about Brie; it's been my favorite for years, but I don't recall having it with apples. I do love blue cheese with pears, so I'll have to try the apple version. Oh boy, something new for me to try!

I like blue cheese or a well aged sharp cheddar with any crisp tart apple like Pippin, Granny Smith, Winesap or Black Twig. I sometimes eat it as my lunch. It is healthier then eating cheese and crackers.

And I am one who prefers a cheddar slice melted on apple pie instead of ice cream. I also like barlett pears and blue cheese. YUM!

Cheddar's my fave. Gonna have to get me some Gruyere this year, I have a couple of recipes calling for it. I also like blue with pears, but I'm sure would be fab with apples too. Another that might be good would be edam. I love honeycrisp apples. My fave eating apples are golden delicious and Empire though. I like gala, fuji, braeburn, all the common ones.
I'm so glad apples rock with taste, becasue that is about all the fruit I can afford off season. I didn't can anything this year, :(
Bannanas are cheap, but they get cloying relatively quickly.

My first and most exquisite experience with fruit and cheese was with Riviera pears and a semi-soft white cheese. I don't know what the cheese was, possibly Havarti. It was heaven.

Granny Smith apples with cambozola is on our catering menu.. 1/8" thick slices with a dollop of the cheese. To die for.

I like cheese and apples too. I also like the "idea" of sharp cheddar cheese with apple pie. But I don't understand how to eat them together. No one in my family or among my friends ever ate them together and I've never seen them served together in restaurants either. Do you put the slice of cheese on top of a warm piece of apple pie, let it soften a bit, and then get some of both with each forkful? Or do you put the slice of cheese on the side and spear a bit of cheese before getting a forkful of pie? Or is there some altogether different way of eating them together that I haven't thought of?

Shambo, I've had an apple pie where the crust had grated sharp cheddar in it...

Cheese and apple pie....can go almost any way...my father used to lift up the top crust and slide a slice of cheese under...sometimes I have seen a pie wedge slice served on top of the top crust....but never melted.
When the dessert menu was brought around, my father would oftan ask for a slice of cheddar with it...I remember more than once when the chef would come out and ask....why? Where? How??....but many more times the cheese would just appear with the pie.
Often I have seen it on the menu..."country style apple pie with aged cheddar cheese"..
But not in a lot of years!
My son and his wife and #1 son will be here Sunday night on the "college inspection tour" and I will be having dinner for them and some of their ( and mine too!) friends....think I'll make an apple pie....even though I know Stew doesn't like fruit of any sort....nor does Joel...the soon to be college kid...the women likely won't eat any....so it will be just the man of the other couple and me!!
Should I feel guilty because I am making something I like for company when I know it's not their fave?

I do! I do!! I will try any cheese with apples.... a few weeks ago I had some very thinly sliced smoked gouda with a tart apple -- yum!

Shambo some people put a slice on top of the pie and cut off a piece with the fork together with the pie while others put the cheese on the side of the plate in order to take a piece of the pie and then a bite of cheese, together or separately. I prefer it that way so I don't destroy the pie while trying to cut the cheese with the edge of the fork....a bite of pie and then one of cheese.

When DH makes apple pie, he uses cheddar cheese in the pie crust. Count me with y'all that love cheese and apples, but I never thought of using other cheeses besides sharp cheddar. I'm eager to experiment. Oh, and Honeycrisps are my very favorite apple that I've tried. Unfortunately, I don't live where apples grow, so I don't have as good a selection as some of you do, but I just love honeycrisps. Any apple that is sweet-tart is good to me.

Good apple pie is my favorite dessert and a slice of cheese ON TOP is just "icing on the cake". Years ago one of the hamburger restaurants here always had an apple pie sitting on top of a waffle iron so it was always warm...with a slice of cheese on top....Heaven!

Maybe it is a New England thing - cheddar cheese (preferably Vermont cheddar cheese) on apple pie. You use to be able to get it at any restaurant there. My dad is the one who started me on it. He loved it if the pie was still warm when you put the cheese on it so it would be soft. Nowadays with microwave ovens, I zap my slice of pie for about 10-20 seconds to slightly melt the cheese. Now I am craving apple pie with cheddar cheese. LOL

Thanks for all the apple pie and cheese advice. I am fortunate to live near a great agricultural community called "Apple Hill." All sorts of family farms & wineries. And just about every farm has a bake shop. I can even get "Apple Hill" frozen pies at our local grocery stores. Sometime in the next few days I'm going to pick one up and try apple pie with sharp cheddar cheese. Can't wait!

Shambo for years I didn't "get" the cheese pie thing. It just sounded weird to me. Then one day I was hungry and looking for something for breakfast and there was apple pie and cheese. So I ate them together and they were yummy! Being slightly hyperglycemic or whatever, one of those glycemics, I have to watch my carb intake and balance it with protein. That's why I now like applie pie with cheese, and also maybe a few almonds thrown in. I often have this as a snack at work, some cheese and crackers, a handful of almonds, and a juicy, tart apple! I eat the cheese with the pie, a bite of cheese, a bit of pie. Quick and easy. Of course both cheese and pie taste good warmed up, but I wouldn't melt cheese on my pie. Not sure why, I like the texture of cheese intact with my pie. Grated into the crust would be cool but I'm not about to make my own crust, let alone grate a bunch of cheese into it.

Lpink, you're so funny. I loved what you said about grating cheese for the pie crust. For some reason pie crust intimidates me. I'm another one that has to watch eating sweet things. For me, it's the combo of anything sweet with coffee. I'll end up getting the "shakes" a couple of hours later. Typical breakfast fare (like doughnuts, sweet rolls, etc.) doesn't set well with me. That's one reason I like to make my own scones and muffins; I cut the sugar content quite a bit and never add glazes, frosting, or streusel.

I love to EAT pie, I just don't like to MAKE pie! But I do make it, BECAUSE I love to eat it. But it has to be an occasional treat for me. I am a well known pie-crust-a-phobe here, and have not been able to get cured, despite the best help and intentions available. Actually, it isn't a phobia, I just do not enjoy the process, so always try to avoid it. But like I said, I'm torn because I want to eat good pie. Especially torn these days because I can't afford a good bakery made pie anymore.

Given enough free time and someone to share the pie with, I can do it though. Below are my pies.

Shambo, Apple Hill is nearly a two-hour drive from me, but I gladly make that trip for my beloved Winesap apples. That is the only place that I have found that I can purchase them. Not one grocery store carries them locally.

Pink, for someone who doesn't enjoy the process, your pies are beautiful!

Shambo, the next time you eat anything sweet (with coffee), try eating a little protein with it. You're getting shaky because your blood sugar dips too low, too fast after eating sugar. (Two hours would be about right.) It you have the cheese with your your apple pie, I'd bet that wouldn't happen to you. Try it and see if that makes a difference. I suspect you can have it after all if you make that small change.

Claire, that's exactly what I do when I'm at home. My problem comes when I'm at someone's house or at a meeting of some sort where the only offerings are coffee/tea and sweet items. I should keep a couple of those snack bags of dry roasted unsalted almonds from Trader Joe's in my purse for emergencies, huh?

Three years, three pies. And if I'm not mistaken, all three have store bought crusts!

Shambo that is what I do, keep packets of peanut butter/cheese crackers, nut mix and sometimes even cheese, in my purse or car. I have totally rationalized my cheese addiction by using it as a protein compliment to so many foods. As the ad says, "Everything tastes better with cheese." My students and I had a long discussion on this because I was skeptical at first, and we couldn't think of one thing that didn't taste better with cheese, if you include ricotta, cottage and cream cheese into the mix. With the possible exception of a fudge brownie and some types of cookies. I like the cream cheese mixed ones, but not necessarily BETTER IMHO. My favorite "breakfast" is a chocolate chip cookie, brownie, slice of carrot cake, or chocolate croissant with coffee, which gives me the jitters all morning long, just like you! I should buy stock in Sargento and Kraft, the companies that make those pre-cut, pre-packaged cheeses! I have tried to save money by buying the uncut, unwrapped cheese, but with that I can't resist and just keep cutting and eating more. I guess it is the extra expense of the pre-packaged stuff that finally curbs my addiction.
