SW Restrained Gold has Green Undertone, Anything Else?

I've posted on the HD forum and most of the wonderful people over there all love SW Restrained Gold. In almost all of the photos, this paint does not have the green undertone. But in my north facing kitchen/dr combo with med golden/orange oak cabinets and floor the paintlooks goldey/green. I'm a Porter Paint girl and have a great bunch of guys at that store who will match anything for me. I feel that they did a great job of matching to the SW. Does SW RG have a green undertone? Can anyone recommend another color on that line of gold that doesn't have the green undertone?

Maybe its just me. I have only one coat of paint on right now over BM Olive Branch. Is that my problem, the OB is showing thru. Maybe the second coat will take away the green undertone.

Oh, I'm doing a low budget remodel with Labrador Granite Laminate counters with the orangey oak cabinets and floor. The RG seemed to bring out the rusty/gold in the laminate. The appliances are all white with a white sink/faucet. I'm selling next year due to retirement and the house needs to go. I have too much money for the area in the house so the kitchen upgrade had to be done under a fine budget. I don't want to paint the cabinets white, which I would love to do, cause most people will question why did you paint the cabinets! I have looked at "Brushworks" finished kitchen with the Labrador Granite Laminate and its beautiful.

Any other ideas on the color?

IMO it makes sense that you'd have green in there, because northern exposures tend to bring out blues (I'm meaning in colors here, not in people, although that applies too! I know because the entire back of our house, the area in which we live most, is north facing and I get greens in colors you'd never expect to see green in, when I put them up on the wall). The orangey tones in your oak cabs might bring out the complement, too, which would be blue (the same way the paint is bringing out the rusty/golds in the laminate). And painting over Olive Branch without a primer might very well also be contributing, as you note.

If you really don't want any green in there, you might want to look for paints that read more orange in the store than you like. But so you really don't want green in there? It's obviously a natural partner of the colors you've got going...

I, too, am an RG fan. I painted 2 coats over a dark green. It did not end up with the green undertone. You may want to try another coat. If you decide to paint the cabs, which I did (I had orangey oak, too), try SW Navajo White. It goes beautifully with RG. I've found that any paint color always seems to work best with 2 coats. It gives you a truer rendition of the color.

gwent: I read your previous message and see that you are seeing green in your RG----is this in your north facing room? I do accent with a lot of reds and have been considering RG for a long time but I sure do not want the green cast in this already darken room. I am with you, it looks so beautiful in others' photos. Wonder about Tobacco Road, would it also cast a green cast in a darken room. I have it in a room that gets a lot of light and it is beautiful.

Just to chime in again. I think I found one that might work: SW Ecru. It's one strip over from Blonde and while still having a main hue of yellow, it has more green in it than the Blonde. I got a sample and painted a foam board. On it's own it looks like a neutral yellow/beige, but against the Blonde I can really tell the difference. The Blonde definitely has more orange/gold in it. I'm trying Ecru out at different times of day and night and in different lights. So far, I like it. I considered Tobacco Road, but that is very similar to Whole Wheat and both have more gray in them than I was looking for. Still both are beautiful shades and very versatile. Thanks for your help.

Restrained Gold on exterior--Opinions, please!

Thank you to all of you who gave me input on using restrained gold on the exterior of our home when I posted the question a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, DH wasn't crazy about doing anything in gold tones once we really started playing with the idea and buying samples. So I found a new inspiration photo in a Cottage Living back issue and have been trying very hard to match the color scheme in this house in the photo! I would love anyone's opinion on the following combination (or photoshop workup if anyone has time). As always, suggestions for alternate color schemes are welcome too! I'm definitely suffering from analysis paralysis right now! So here's what I've come up with (all these are Sherwin Williams colors) The bulk of the house body would be in Perfect Greige, the trim in Pacer White, and the accents on the gables would be Riverway. This house is on a lake so I was trying to go with a bungalow/lake house feel to the color scheme. I've painted some scrap siding (we're using Hardiplank) with these colors and I *think* I like them but I'm horrible at imagining them on an entire house! HELP!! (and THANKS!!) :)

SW Restrained Gold on walls, now what color for the ceiling??

I have 10 foot ceilings (113 year old house) and used Restrained Gold in my bedroom. I used the same color on the ceiling without crown molding. The same color looks lighter on the ceiling. I think using the same color would look even better with white crown molding because the separation caused by the crown molding would make the color appear different from the walls, yet still would match because it is the same color. Maybe this wouldn't work on a lower ceiling, however.
