I found a picture I liked for my bed room at Homegoods the other day for $75. After a few minutes debating I decided I wasn't sure if I liked it $75 worth so I decided to hide it behind some other pictures and if it was there in 2 days it was meant to be mine. As I moved the pictures I saw another one hidden there - with a $9.99 price tag!! After a minute I realized the glass was missing but it was otherwise perfect. I grabbed it and ran for the register!! I can get a piece og glass for it for $10 . . . but I kind of like it without . . . it's a deep frame 3D type of print.

My best deal lately is I found a wonderful big beefy oak coffee table on CL shortly before Christmas for... ta daaa .. $8.00!! Not only that, but it was only a few blocks away and the dear man loaded it into his car, followed me home, and carried it up into my kitchen for me!

I sanded down the marred up and paint-dripped top, re-stained it, put on a few coats of tung oil, and gave it to my greatful son for Christmas. I also made my son come get it, so I never had to try to carry it around. Gotta' love it!

Here it is on top of my other recent good buy -- my new Novalis kitchen floor. Note that the cabinet to the right of the pic and the table are real oak and the floor is vinyl planks.

I got a beautiful quilt at Salvation Army, hand quilted and quite lovely for 4 dollars. They have the silliest prices. I live near the quilt capitol of Iowa, the quilt should be nearly ten times that value. They had next to it a pillow, ratty and tattered for 3.99. I just took the quilt.

LOL, I've stayed away from shopping so my best deal was buying nothing and holding onto my money.

sky, I'm in the same mood as you are; I could open a small store with the stuff I'd like to part with !!!!!! I'm purging for a move, so I'm letting go of things big time.

My best deals recently:

I was in Florida for a month and got lured by 70% off gothicly ornamented candles at Neiman Marcus;
they are gorgeous and I had to carry a small tote with them on the plane. Security almost flagged them because there is a small metal cross on them but the agent let them through.
Now I'm looking at them and thinking, did I need those?, definitely not.

I also picked up a beaded very unusual runner at McKenzie Childs in west palm beach, definitely should have skipped on by, even half price.

Other than that, I've stayed away from the stores.

My best deal always seems to be 25lbs of litter for $5.99, on sale from $11.29. :( I only have five cats, but I seem to be running a barn over here.

My best deal would have to be my split staircase. For about $250 the carpet has been removed, the wood has been sanded over and patched. I've only had to buy one can of floor paint so far because I already had primer. The biggest expense has been the sandpaper! The labor, all done by my husband and son - priceless!!!!

My brother just got an estimate to do his stairs in laminate - $4000 - I kid you not!

I've gotten two pieces of original art, one looks like a woodblock print and one looks like an etching?, gorgeous multi-colors, well-executed, signed/numbered, framed/matted--$25 each.

I went to pick up 4 tub chairs from a law office ($10 ea.), and when I looked on the bottom, the label said Hickory Chair! So I grabbed them plus 3 chippendale style Hickory chairs for bedroom. all for a total of $70. I don't think I'll ever see a deal like that again in my life. I laughed with glee all the way home.

My new tassel tie backs. I saw them in JCP for $50 each but I bought them from World Wide Trim, all 4 including priority shipping for $52.

Excellent condition, verrrry comfy, yucky upholstery, but it's getting slipcovered.

Also, the rug in that picture was $206 shipped, 80% off from Home Decorators outlet. The LR rug below was also 80% off, $185 before shipping (another $45 for two more rugs plus $38 shipping for all). Both 8x10. Yes, they're the horrible evil tufted rugs ;-) but neither one has any odor and the LR one has already stopped shedding.

The settee in that picture - as I bragged ;-) in another thread - is unused, purchased secondhand for $300 delivered, 1/3 what the original owner paid for it. Not high-end but not junk either, almost certainly better quality than the JCPenney one I was considering (which was $175 more when shipping was added in) and most importantly fits that b**** of a space I had to fill while still going reasonably well with my couch.

The dog, however, has cost us a stinkin' fortune. ;-)

I'm redecorating my MBR this spring, and the focal point will be an antique french country armoir. I dropped into get the local Salvation Army on Saturday to get me weekly "fix" and found this reproduction french commode/dresser. It's oak, very well made, drawers work great and in excellent structural shape. Finish needs work. It was marked down to $35, so I hesitantly decided to buy it. (The reason I hesitated is because I now have three vintage dressers at home needing cosmetic uplifts, and DH does not appreciate seeing more strays coming in the door!). But here's the best part, as I was waiting in line to pay for the dresser and a couple other items, a rather cool looking leather bound cookbook near the cashier caught my eye. It had copper edged pages, a silk cord, and contained menus from famous restaurants around the world, along with lots of recipes and photos. Well, even though I hardly cook at all anymore, something about this book was begging me to take it home. I paid $2.99 for it. As it turns out, it's a first edition collectible cookbook, and is listed on the internet for between $50-$175 depending on condition. I've decided to sell it--so it easily paid for everything else I bought that day!

teeda, may I ask, where/how are you planning to sell that cookbook? I have some similar finds like that and I'm to the point where I'm feeling "acquired out". I posted on this a few days ago and RubyLane came up as a good possibility...what avenue will you choose, if you would share? TIA

flyleft, as much as I've complained about Ebay, I'll probably sell the cookbook there. It will be easy to ship, and I feel a little safer dealing with a specific audience such as cookbook collectors. I'm also going to be careful about checking out any potential buyer's feedback and will use the tool that monablair recently posted. I'd be more hesitant to sell other things on Ebay. I have looked at Ruby Lane. I think things that are priced right do well there, but I thought a lot of the merchandise seemed overpriced. Depends on how quickly you want to get rid of things, I guess. I'm not too worried about what I sell the cookbook for, since it it's basically "found" money.

I needed new fabric for family curtains, went to Jo-Annes, picked out samples for Waverly Fabric that I would like, went to the Interior Alternative store outlet in Deleware, found the exact same Fabric on the 50% off bolt, so I got my fabric for 5.99 a yard. I made sure when they rolled it out, there was no imperfections. Since I make my own, I will leave them up for a year and make new ones when I am bored.

DH is building window seating and shelves to go around the perimeter of our sunroom.
I have PB's pewter grommet topped panels on the double sliders that lead out to it from our DR. I found 48" bench cushions in the same blue ticking stripe as the curtains, in a sun/fade resistant fabric, to use on the seats. They were only $14.99 each! I was able to order 6 of them for probably less than what it would have cost to have one custom made.

My latest "bargain" turned on me in the end. We're rehabbing a bathroom in our summer place, trying to do it as inexpensively as possible. For the floor, we found a nice piece of vinyl flooring for only $60, so we grabbed it. However, the subfloor was a mess, so for installation we ended up paying $350! Ridiculous...
