As seen on TV...have you tried these

Got hooked on infomercials this morning (it was that or cartoons!). If anyone here has purchased these two items, I would like to hear your opinion about either one.

New Wave Oven

Swivel Sweeper

I actually have NO room for the oven, but the Swivel Sweeper might be handy in my classroom. The kids would love to use it. But does it work well on hard floors, picking up grit?

I have a swivel sweeper. Got it for my birthday, and I absolutely love it. It works awesome on carpet, and okay on bare floors. But if you are using it to pick up animal hair on bare floors, it suffers from the same fate as many vacuums and sweepers - sometimes it blows the hair out of it's way before it can pick it up. It does work well on crumbs and things.

It glides very easily in all directions and is extrememly light. The dirt tray is very small so you want to empty it every time you use it. It is very easy to remove, empty, and place back so it isn't as bad as it sounds.

So far it has kept it's charge well, and when it seems slow I recharge it. The battery pack comes out for charging and sits in a cradle that plugs into a wall socket. You are not supposed to just leave it sitting in there though so you can't put a spare one to sit charged and ready to go.

I got the Swivel Sweeper for Christmas. I'm opposite of Dances. I like it for the floor, but not so much for the carpet. It picks up great on the floor.

The Meilland HTs have always been monsters here, with canes double the size of broomsticks. That seems to be their style of choice. 'Peter Mayle' is enormous. All the hybridizers seem to have their distinctive picks on traits. Meilland and their huge canes, McGredy has this every petal must be perfectly clean quality, Austin has the "charm", Kordes the we-can-do-without-fragrance-because-the-foliage-is-so-clean. After some years of growing them, you can see what the hybridizers are after.

Like these? They're bigger than a navy bean and kind of a creamy yellow color. This bag has been in my pantry for a couple of weeks now and they're raised and harvsted here in Michigan, the Carlson-Arbogast Farm is in Howard City about 30 miles from my house. I sent a bag of them to Carol (Readinglady) too, I don't know if she's cooked them yet. I'll cook them next week sometime and report in! Annie

A Clockwork Orange -- now there's a movie that is a favorite of many I have known. But the book brought tears to my eyes just reading the violent parts; don't think I could stomach watching it (or should I say viddying it?). Same with Passion of Christ: too graphic for this Catholic! Think I'll stick with the book ;) The Battleship Potemkin is a movie I frequently see homages to and feel I ought to see. The original Ben Hur is one I'd love to see. A documentary on movies I saw years ago showed side by side comparisons of the chariot race from the 1925 version and the 1959 version. William Wyler, who directed the 1959 version, felt the scene in the 1925 version was so perfectly done that he recreated it as an homage to the original -- same camera angles, same props, etc.

Off Topic... For those who don't know this part of the globe, my drive to Ashland from St. Paul was not quite half a day, leisurely ambling along Hwy 2 from Duluth-Superior. Driving was good on a Thursday in the pre-tourist season on a sunny day. It's such an early spring that the natural world seems out of whack. Lots of ducks and geese to watch and the pussy willows have already gone past the pussy stage and have iridescent green fluff on them in silhouette. I spent an hour at the Timeless Timbers warehouse + gift shop and the rest of the afternoon in the archive at the visitor center that also houses some of the Wisc. Hist. Soc. stuff for the area. Because this time of year puts deer on the road in early evening, I did not waver off the highway very much on return trip. Did buy some of DH's favorite beers but had no time to seek out my usual cheese shop haunts in western Wisc. and no time to poke around on Brule R. or St. Louis R. where I usually spend time at parks watching spring water flow gush through the historic waterways. Did find some cheese ends for cheap at a grocery store. Left at 9 am, got home at 9 pm. I am very familiar with Madeline Island and Bayfield and Cornucopia and will be up there in a few more weeks to look at spring wildflowers (and perhaps to pick up two pieces of butcherblock countertop if I weaken in my resolve to keep to budget). Might also paddle a voyageur canoe around the Apostles if my calendar works out for summer. rjr220: There's an internet page "going around" right now that shows places in U.S. which have more bars than grocery stores and guess what? Wisconsin wins! If you know back country Wisconsin, you know that the local bars are the community gathering places. Go Packers! If you get a chance to visit the Timeless Timbers lumber yard at some point, would love to know what you think of the products. The Cheese, Beer, and Wine promotion councils of Wisc. have a great promo map of the state which is a hoot to follow, if you need a diversion when visiting. Personally, I think they need to add sausage joints to the map also, and maybe pasties. Watch out for the speed trap in Iron River! P.S.--Timeless Timbers needs about 3 week lead-time to produce countertops currently. Your results may vary. The visitor center has large area of Timeless Timber flame birch used in front hall cabinetry. Good place to see actual use of the product as furniture, not butcherblock.

Re the swivel sweeper, I didn't know what you were talking about so looked it up on good old Google. Wow, do you realize with S&H it would be $54.93 (S&H $19.95) for one, or if you took their offer of buy one, get one free it would be $69.96 (S&H $29.98). Is this something you could eventually find at Walgreen's on their TV Offer shelf?

I would love one of the ovens but with S&H to Canada, it was extrememly expensive. Although they say they do not sell in store, we can find many things in one store that just handles the things advertised on T.V. I got my Swivel Sweper that way. I like the Swivel Sweeper on bare floors, especailly for crumbs.
I felt I saved most of the S&H by buying at this store. Right now, I can't think of the name of it. One of those senior moments.

I wouldn't have room for the oven on my counter, and the swivel sweeper looks interesting. The As seen on Tv item I would like to try is called (I think) the GT express. Its an appliance abt the size of a small Geo. Forman grill, but has two wells and cooks from both sides. Any one out there have one of these? Do you like it? Dottie

I don't have either, but I love my rechargable Swiffer Vac, it works great on bare floors.

I bought a Ped Egg a while back and it works fine, too. We like it. $10 at B,B and Beyond. No shipping. lol

DOTMOM,we have the GT express,I'm not thrilled with itbut it's ok.I don't know how they make a meal with that thing,the wells aren't big enough.I think the size was our biggest dissappointment,it's a lot smaller that it looks on tv.I use it every now and then for eggs.

DH is a As seen on TV junkie,and i always tell him to wait a few weeks and he'll find it locally,sometimes even in big lots.I always take the shipping into consideration,he doesn't.Crazy man!!!

I dont have either one of them. But we got a rocket grill from walmart, and I absolutely love it, you can make a hamburger in it in 3 min. frozen chicken breast in 9 min. Absolutely noooooooooooo cleanup either. Steaks are to die for in it.

Yes, BBB has them too.

I too love mine. My house is mainly tiles and it works well. I bought one each person in my family and they just love it. They use on both carpet/rugs and hardwood floor and tiles.

Love the Swivel Sweeper! Got it at CVS for 34.99 and it is the same at the Walmart here.

Kathi mgdg.....THANKS A MILLION. I have been considering the GT Express, but what has stopped me is the price. $40. and you get TWO of them. I don't need two. I can't understand why they don't sell one for $20. Now with your info, I'll just skip it all together. Again, Thank you for taking the time to clue me in. Dottie

Two of my very favorite products As Seen On TV are Mighty Putty and the removable wall hooks from 3M.

We've puttied up splintered wood and drilled holes in it to hang baskets, we've puttied up holes in the garden hose, repaired window sash closures, the stuff is great.

The removable wall hooks were terrific for hanging indoor Christmas lights around the house. When Christmas was over I just pulled the hooks off - no damage to the walls.
