Could you move the piano to the right a couple of feet? Then if the painting is hung in the center of the wall it will look fine. It will give more space to move into the room also.

luckygal - Good idea. Might be able to move it. The piano is so heavy to move, but I've always felt it wasn't in the perfect spot in the room. You are so right...it takes up a lot of space where it's at. My neighbors are having a piano delivered next week; maybe I can slip the piano movers some cash to move it a few feet. Thanks for your input!

You will definitely get better sound from the piano if you turn it so that it opens into the room for optimal sound rather than as it is now, opening into the corner. That will also give you options as far a decorating around it. Definitely have the movers turn it for you rather than just moving it over.

cyn427 - Thanks for your input! Our dining room is to the left, and the entry to our home is opposite the living room (where I was standing when I took the photo). We sure get a lot of sound now! But I think I understand what you're saying...turn it "clockwise" more...perhaps have it parallel to the wall or even turned a bit the other way. Will give it a try!

Yes, I think clockwise turn, but I would turn it so the bench/keys are parallel to that living room wall with the opening toward the dining room. If you can get the movers, give that a try. It can be close to the window wall as well which will expand your space. You will get so much less echo that way.

Here is my small living room with a grand piano and large picture. I like my piano angled in the room.

If you tuck your piano back into the corner a little more, you will free up most of that large wall. You could then hang the picture on left third of the wall....making a nice grouping with the piano and bench.

Any way we can see the other walls?

I think I'll have the piano movers try it a couple of ways. My only concern re having the keys/bench parallel to the back wall is that we would always see the back of the piano. Our hallway from the garage/laundry room opens into the entry, so the living room view in the photo is a "focal point" as we enter. Sure wish our living room was larger! Not a lot of options.

tag singer - Love your piano and your room! I like it angled, too, and seeing the keys and the front of the piano is nice. We have two windows on the right side of our room; to the left is an arched opening into the dining room. I'll try & take more photos in the morning.

Love your corner cabinet. Looks great there, and I like how you have the upper portion opened; it really showcases the beautiful glass doors.

Here are photos of the other walls (posting one at a time). You'll see there just isn't a lot of space in the room, and no major wall space except the back wall. I've ruled out angling the piano in the right corner (the left corner in this photo) - too close to the window, and the sound needs to open into the room, not the window wall.

My DH says just keep the piano closed until time to play it; then no need to move it. Hmmm...I like having it open...at least half way.

I think the piano could be moved back toward the dining room a tad, plus a bit closer to the back wall. Then perhaps the picture might work on the right side of the wall. Or, just keep it centered on the wall (see photo) & keep the piano closed. Not a lot of options!

Helpful photos, thanks! I wish I had photoshop skills, but this is the arrangement I had in mind for your room. If you tuck the piano a little more into the back corner, you'll have room for the picture on the left side of the wall. It can now be appreciated with the lid up! :)

Your neat clock gets completely lost in the corner, so I moved it where it can be seen - it also makes a nice grouping with the picture and piano. The lamp will then serve to light the dark corner in the evening.

Anyway, this is what I would do. Big pianos in small rooms are a challenge!

Hi tag - Thanks so much for taking the time to cut & paste your layout idea! So nice of you. I like the arrangement you suggested; nice and balanced. I've been doing the same (I am also Photoshop-challenged :)) & have looked at several scenarios. Alas, the piano movers changed their schedule w/my neighbor, and I won't be home when they are here. :( However, all this cutting and pasting is helping. I don't want to pay a trip charge for the movers to make a separate trip to my house, but maybe my DH and some strong neighbors can try and move the piano.

I realized we are limited in how far right the piano can go, due to the cabinet between the windows(we love it there). There needs to be enough clearance so the door won't hit the piano when the kids open it for their music. So, only a foot or so is allowable.

In the meantime, I think we will hang the painting centered on the wall & keep the piano open but not all the way. We'll live with it for a bit. I really like your idea of swapping the clock and the lamp; I will try that. Thx! I'll post a photo when the picture is hung.
