How to decorate mantle that has an extremely large painting above it ?
Comments (24)I would definitely hang it higher, and it does look good framed. Either way, get rid of the floor vase. Is it possible to move that brown furniture on the left away from the fireplace? The fireplace needs breathing room, as much as possible, if you can't move it. Moving the picture up is the most important consideration. The mantel does not need any other decoration....See MoreAbove the Mantel - mirror or painting?
Comments (42)Being encoraged somewhat by "They(mirrors) reflect light and open up a space to add dimension.")).. , I want to add that finding the right mirror is not easy at all. You (a theoretical "you"..insert any pronoun) need it to be certain size, right? That's a big mirror. If you order it online and you dislike it-you're kinda stuck..since the cost to return it might be big, and some stores will ask for restocking fees too, even if their shipping to you was free. So seeing it would be helpful. Everything new and affordable-I personally am not a fan of (yes I do have some in my house, bathrooms for example-because I was already desperate, and nothing suitable on Craigslist for months, and everything I love is expensive). So leaves one more often than not with scouring Craigslist. Again you're very patient and you check each day-or almost each day-so it's easier than art, a mirror-but as somebody who was hunting mirrors also..one needs luck with "his" mirror too. I do have my favorites saved allover..favorite mirrors I mean..I'll check what I have saved. Probably useless to you; but who knows. We might have similar taste or something. I have only one mirror in my house I truly love..but it's quirky. And I could afford it since smaller. Otherwise that site would want 700$ or smth like that..they carry several nice mirrors....See MoreHelp me decide size of painting above fireplace
Comments (7)The painting will be of the barns behind the old farmhouse we moved from. I think we will likely do a canvas without frame. I actually like the height - this is a very long room, with kitchen at one end, dining area in the centre, and great room where the fireplace is at the far end. So I look forward to enjoying the view from my kitchen, where my husband and I spend a lot of time....See MoreWhat to put above this mantle and mirror?
Comments (19)Yes! So I got this mirror yesterday. Is it too small? There was another size available but worried it’ll be too large. This mirror is just leaning for now but if its an ok size, i'll mount it say 3-4inches above the mantle?? @Flo Mangan...See Moreksdrogers
