Superchick, I could have written this post myself. I cannot begin to tell you how many different paint colors we tried on sample boards, taped to walls, etc., changed and changed again. We were originally going to go with BM Chestertown Buff in our main living area and halls, and it looked so great on the sample chip. But on the walls . . . it was a way too bright yellow for us. We then thought we needed to go more brown and ended up trying BM Gingerbread Man, which was less yellow, but way too orange! I thought we had everything all set to go so the paint lady could get started, and by the time she arrived on site, I was near to tears with complete frustration. She was very helpful, and we ended up going with BM Wilmington Tan, which is one of their historical colors (HC-34). The painter has started with this color, and it looks SO much better than the others. It is a warm beige color, not too yellow, and not too orange. We like that it is warmer than some of the grayer looking beige tones. We are using BM Vanilla Ice Cream for our trim color, and it blends nicely. SW Blonde was another color we were considering, and we are using it in our back hallway. It is golden looking tan on the wall, and I understand about how you might think it looks "icky", but I really think it will look fine once our darker mixed tile flooring is installed. I know many people have raved about this color. Anyway, you may want to check out the Wilmington Tan as an option, by Benjamin Moore, or something like it. It is a little less gold and a little more there than the SW Blonde. By the way, I love BM's cork color as well, but we thought this might be too bright/dark for such a large area of the house. Jan

Both of my bathrooms are green. The master has tan granite-looking countertops and the walls are painted BM Aura in Metropolitan. Very spa-like. My daughter's bathroom is painted BM Quiet Moments. That color is very nice, as well.

Context is everything with regard to color. How a color reads in the context of a fandeck or a paint chips (big or small) isn't necessarily going to hold true in the context of a three-dimensional room. And vice versa. Each analysis or "read on the color" can be correct. Depends on the kind of discussion you want to have about color and what your end goal happens to be. With that said, it's important to evaluate any color in which you have an interest in various contexts (in the room in general, near the sofa, butted up against the trim, etc.) and lighting exposures (on a window wall, in a corner, up by the ceiling, down low by the floor). It's through this process that undertones will reveal themselves. There are two kinds of undertones - in situ and inherent. Alleged undertones you are able to detect on a paint chip can literally disappear into thin air once in a room. Color experts consider a few key things when choosing wall colors. Context is right up there with primary light exposure, function, expectations and tolerances. Making assumptions about paint color based on just a chip can sometimes narrow the field of color choices down to slim and none. And just because XYZ beige turned out pinky beige in one house does not mean it will look the least bit pink in your house. Collecting input and comparable results with paint colors is not a bad thing -- can be good to get other people's read and opinions on certain colors. Editing that info is just as important as collecting it.

The cabinets are all being painted white or a shade of white-ish.... unfortunately I picked a carpet 7 months ago - and didn't think through the entire house of colors - hence why I am irritated with the developer designer for not even recommending this website to me - never heard of it until 6 weeks ago. I prefer sea glass tones of color and this is where a gray based carpet would have been a better option. But too late now.
