Took Your Advice and Flew Home

Well, I think Mom has hit a plateau. I flew in last night and am getting ready to get some breakfast and go see here. Spoke to my sister yesterday and she was actually nice!!! Keep praying, He's listening!!!! Thanks again, everyone for thinking of me and sending me your kind thoughts. I have a feeling that today they will want to talk to us about pulling the plug.

I discourage the wrens. I take any sticks they put into a box away as quickly as possible. From the information I've read on the Sialis website, if you let wrens nest, you will soon be overrun with wrens. The wrens will poke holes in the Bluebird's eggs, or toss out their chicks. So if you're trying to get Blues, I would certainly discourage the wrens.

Stoney...they have one of those planes at Offutt Airforce Base in Omaha... For some reason they fly it all the time. It goes over the park where my husband works to make a mock landing at the airport in Omaha . It doesn't touch the ground but almost then goes back up and on it's way. When it goes over the park, which sets on the opposite side of the Missouri river from the airport, it is very very low. It nearly parts the waters as it goes over. Quite a site to see. There is a deck out there that you can sit on and watch the planes come in. You can almost count the rivets...lol I want to try to get a picture some day. Denny explained to me why they fly that huge plane in and out all the time with no one on it...but I can't remember ....lol patti

Interesting and, again, helpful. Thanks to you both! Brilliant to incorporate the Pet Center into the kitchen. As it is, I've got at least half of one big drawer devoted to those things, and I don't much like mixing some of that stuff with food-related items (leaky Frontline packages, I'm looking at you!) They belong in a separate drawer as you have them, or in a mud room near the dog wash, which of course can double as a utility sink. It's not too hard to rig up a proper dog wash, inside or out--depending on the size of the dog and level of recalcitrance when it comes to baths ;) The more I think about it, the more a mud room makes sense for a small house. The only real addition that has been made post-1920s is a large-ish bathroom, with heated floors, a big closet, and a walk-in shower (separate from tub,) that has a nice high window. You can see the high window on the right in my other photos. Anyway, I do think that adding a good-size bathroom onto a tiny house is a huge improvement, especially when you think about sharing the space. A well-designed mud-room/ laundry will have a similar effect, unburdening the kitchen and other spaces from storage of linens, light bulbs, gift wrap, you name it! It's possible I can achieve what I want without adding extra "living" space (a bedroom or studio,) but I wonder if that becomes risky. It'd still be a 2 BR 1Ba house, albeit with ample storage and a comfortable connection to utility space outside. I think I'd like to proceed by designing the mud room and kitchen as if there would be a two story space where the garage is. I'd always imagined that space being linked to the old space through the kitchen, and that "mud" would be housed in the lower portion of the addition (where the garage is presently.) It's so helpful to have feedback like this to keep me from doing something impulsive that might make things better only in the short run. What a great resource you all are! Thanks again.

If you are ok with the tv in the corner there, it is fine. If you don’t want the tv showing all the time, you could use a tv lift cabinet. They can be pricey; but since you are open to custom modifications, you could get an inexpensive cabinet/stand and have it customized with a lift mechanism. This way, when you are entertaining and don’t want the tv, you could just put a floral arrangement or even a lamp on that cabinet adjacent to love seat. And then if tv becomes a part of the equation, you can just lift it up. I can tell you first hand how hard the years are afterwards if you decide not to go.

My mother got off of the vent today and is breathing on her own. She is awake and alert and I was able to tell her everything in my heart and it was a wonderful moment. If she is doing well she will be going to a regular room tomorrow morning. My sister is being very kind and generous with me so all is well here. I'm not sure how long I will be here but at least until Monday. Thanks for all of your good thoughts and wishes and prayers.

Wow-this is GREAT news. Glad you got to speak to your mom and you know she understood what you said. So glad you were able to get there. I bet she was thrilled to see you. Glad your sister seems on board too.

Like others, I am so glad you were able to go. We don't get "do overs" in life, and I know you'll never regret your decision.

I'll continue to hold you and your sister up in prayer. During a very difficult and emotional time for everyone, it's sometimes hard to put differences aside and just be "in the moment" without letting past baggage wedge its way in. But these are moments you won't get back, and I know you'll make them count.

I hope your mom continues to do well, and I wish you a safe stay and safe travels.

I'm very happy you were able to fly home. Lets hope your Mom continues to improve and you will have more time to share all your feelings with her. I also hope this will be a break through with your sister. Life is too short to hold onto hurt feelings with family members.

Glad you went. Many years ago, my Dad was very sick with liver disease and was getting hospice care. I went to visit him exactly a week before I died. It cost a lot to fly to see him but it was a good thing. We said goodbye peacefully and promised we'd see each other again.
