You can splice the cord to make it shorter. Sorry I can't tell you how, I have a guy for things like that. But he's told me it's easy.

I usually gather the cords together with a rubberband and tuck them behind a tray or something.

In the stores, I think that you will find that all of the lamps cords are too long for what you are wanting. I think it is to prevent people from using and overloading extension cords.

I just cut the cord off an inch longer than what I needed and put a new PLUG on the end...it's easy! You can buy the new plugs at any hardware store, and the instructions are printed on the card the plug is on.

I have a lamp on the main bathroom counter -- and just wrapped up the cord and hid it among the antique cameras and photos in the tray .....

I too have a lamp in the bathroom...I have the lamp sitting on some of those faux books that open up and I put the extra cord in the books. :)

I have a small lamp in my PR and I tucked much of the cord underneath the base of the lamp so much of the cord is not seen.

Teacats, love that bathroom! I wish I had a bathroom w/ a vanity large enough to do something like that.

I'm glad to see this question raised because I just put a small lamp on my kitchen counter and have a lot of extra cord. Unfortunately, I can't tie up the whole cord because it has the on/off switch *on* the cord (hate that...). But I can tie up most of it and attach it somehow under the upper cabinet.

I find it easier to adjust the length at the socket end than at the plug end. If you want to retain the on/off switch, just adjust from both ends. Little lamps are one of my favorite accents. The light is much warmer.
