About the broken bone...is it leg or ankle???

I said it was my daughters ankle that is broke...but now I'm not sure. It is one of the bones in the lower leg. the smaller bone and is broke at the ankle...so would they call it a broken leg or a broken ankle?

She also tore tendons.

NO cast...just the boot.

And he's telling her she might be off work for 10 weeks.

The doc. she works for may not be too happy about that....

Not sure which they would call it, pattico, but sure am sorry that your DD had that happen. Guess the doc will just have to understand. Does DD think they will hire a temp or is she worried about her job?

My DS, who has had back problems since he was 18 just got the news yesterday that his back has gotten worse. An ER dr. told him he would probably have to have surgery. I told DS not to worry so much until he could get other opinion. Unfortunately, he lost his job because it was his first day. I knew that he would not make it through the day. The job required him to stand at a machine and move fast around it. He could barely stand up straight for the past few days, much less have to move fast. He told them the problem and they sent him home. And he is not eligible for employment with them again. Bad thing is, he has been trying to get on with this company for over a year. His employment sure came at a bad time.

Be careful Schoolhouse! The doctor I saw said that the feeling an ankle will turn again is a sign of ligament damage. Try keeping that wrapped! Broken ankle didn't hurt near as much as torn ligaments and the sprains! I just cracked up the top of my foot - the weird thing is, you can still see all the marks from the little "accident" - my ankle looks like the permanently bungled mess it is!! Most ligament pain now is on the curving arch - inside of my foot. Be careful with that. I am thinking arch supports might help. If you have very high arches, this can be a real pain to heal!

Sorry to hear about the broken bone, yikes....But, glad to hear you're doing well... A week ago, my oldest son was working on a car and dropped the radiator on his foot...Yep, broken pretty bad, can put no weight on it and is on crutches...Tell a 60 yr. old not do anything, yea right! He hasn't sat still for 60 years... When I was 13, broke my femur in 3 places, in traction for weeks and then in a body cast for months...But, while in the hospital, met the patient in the next room and 5 years later we were married....So, watch out for those broken bones you never know what you might catch, lol.....But, 60 years later, he's still here, so I guess I'll keep him for another 60.....

I've talked to her twice today and she is doing so much better than I thought she would. She said it is easier and easier to manipulate around her leg. We are going to my brothers and she was glad to hear that their bathroom door is wider than her wheelchair. I offered to make her meals, but she had declined. I shopped for her great grandchildren today, took a picture of the presents and sent it to her, and then wrapped them. She was going to make a dessert for Christmas day, but I am making that too. She has only taken some ibuprofen since the first night. I think the nurse practitioner scared her pretty bad with a prescription of stool softeners to take whenever she takes a pain pill.

I have been running for 40 years and trail running for 20 and hiking and gym and blah, blah, blah. A few years ago I was running and stepped on a pine cone, fell off and tore all the ligaments in my ankle. I went to my doctor, had x-rays and then sent me straight to physio. My kids still tease me about falling off of a pine cone. This is not the only time I have sprained an ankle. I'm coming off of a slight sprain right now from doing ladder work in the gym and then going straight into high knees over low hurdles. I screwed up the transition and went over on my foot. Went straight to my physio and he started the healing process for me. At the very least I would go to a physio if you have one. Only go to one that you trust. They can quicken the healing and give you strengthening exercises for the foot and ankle. If you don't have one then you could go to your doctor. I wouldn't bother with an Ace bandage but rather would get a small soft brace which are available at drug stores. They go under the foot and around the ankle, are velcroed and provide really good support. Wear it when you first go back into the trails and if you have walking poles or can borrow some do so for the first few times as well. Good luck - this really is a pain in the butt.

I broke that bone a couple of years ago, and the doctor called it an ankle fracture.

I broke the same bone too. Ankle. Had the boot for 7 weeks. It wasn't so bad and I didn't miss a day of work.

mimi boo...I think part of her problem is being the broken bone is on left leg and she has a torn muscle on right calf that hasn't complete healed yet. So it can't handle all the weight on right leg either.

She is having a lot of pain today.

Denny and I went up and played "Old Maid" cards with the kids tonight...they are bored.
