If not you could always wear your clothes backwards and carry a balloon when you pick up your kids at school. I will do the same, and we can figure out who each other is....of course, I'm joking here.

What is heartening is the way the community has come together with literally thousands of people opening their homes to strangers who need a place to stay, with google opening a site specifically for people to post if they are looking for someone or if they have information on someone. So fortunate too that being near the end of the race, there was a lot of medical staff on hand ready to treat collapsed runners who came to the aid of the injured. Also fortunate that Boston has many excellent hospitals to take in the large number of injured people. They believe a lot of this has helped limit the number of people who have died as a result. What is also good, if true, is that the police have disarmed a bomb so they have it for understanding how it was made which may be a signature for the bomber, and they have a shot at any DNA and/or fingerprint evidence left behind. I think that the micro perspective makes it seem that violence is becoming more prevalent as: a) acts of terrorism are designed to spread fear even further than death or injury and it works; b) the media brings all these events of horror inside our doorsteps and into our living rooms; and c) these events of violence are visited directly on the US. We spent the last century fighting wars on other people's land...Europe, Asia, the Mideast...or we were witnesses to violence in other people's lands such as the UK or Israel, Lebanon, Syria, etc. When it hits close to home, it not only makes the horror of it seem so much more real when it's people we know or places we've been, but it has the added effect of shaking our fundamental sense of safety in our own community. However, history demonstrates the opposite. Globally, violence has declined dramatically over the last few centuries and we are living more peacefully now than before. This is really good news for human kind and very hopeful. The benefits of education, growth in governments that respect human rights and economic well being are extremely powerful forces against violence. Mabsy, we took our sample slab when we went to lay the template. They divided it into 4 sections, and honed one to 80 grit, one to 100 grit, one to 200 and one to 240, so we could see the difference. The higher they polished it, the more I could see the undulations of the quartz areas vs the talc areas. At a lower grit, the whole surface was more even. We decided that the 80 grit finish was best for our soapstone. Hope this helps.

I've never had the $ to go with fads or trends, really, but 3.5 years ago when we bought our couches, the store we went to had a million fabric options and not a single one in the color I really wanted for my couches--I wanted a dark emerald and all they had was sage and hunter in the green category; the other 199,998 options were gold, red or brown. So I went with brown--even though my other upholstered (actually slipcovered) seating in that room was already brown. And that is why I am trapped in brown hell today. I understand that with kids and pets and shoddy housekeeping, brown is serviceable. I know that accessorized with things other than dog hair, dropped Crocs and a handful of Connect Four pieces, brown can be elegant and rich looking. But in my house, it's just plain brown. Snooze. I wish I had bucked the trend (what was that color trend that made all the fabrics red and gold? Tuscan?) and held out for the emerald sofas of my dreams....

Do you have the right email address attached to your profile? Are you getting emails when we reply to your posts? If you're getting emails for replies then it's right; if you're not then it's wrong.

I just posted in your other thread; when she emails using the form she should put her email address in the message box so that you can get it.

If the email hasn't come through; she can edit her profile (click the link below). Click on Edit Your Personal Information, Page, and Preferences - Scroll to the bottom to where the shaded box is- Allow other users to send you email via forms at our site - this will allow you to email her.

I do get emails from GW, but they are very slow to arrive. So I know it works.

I always get them right away from GW when I make a post & someone responds. Having said that; I did bump one of my posts in the real estate section the other day & it took an hour to come through but I was having issues with all emails that day so it was my email client. I'm using gmail which is free. I've found it works great for message boards.

Question; her email has not gotten there yet but how about notifications that people replied to your 2 posts? If the post notifications came then it's possible her email may have gone to the spam folder. Have you checked your spam box?

If you want to try emailing me from my member page; I can let you know if I've gotten it; then you'll know where the problem lies. Hopefully it will get figured out.

I used to live in Edison before I moved to South Jersey; pretty close to your soapstone guy. Before that I was from Union County.

I sent 2 emails, I've sent emails to GW'ers before and they've always received them, including roselvr. I don't want to put my email in the thread b/c it is my first name and last maiden name.
