TGIF!

Got the day off, snatching my kids out of school early and headed to NYC for the weekend. They don't even know. I love to surprise them like this.

Hopefully some swap shopping this weekend.

Special thoughts to Sara, that she's making progress everyday; and that those waiting for test/results receive good news.

Oh Lori, that sounds like a blast! Have a great time!
We are going to friends for dinner tonight, have a good friend's daughters wedding Saturday, and hopefully go do some fall farm stuff on Sunday. (Tonight I am trying an apple pecan goatcheese salad where the apple is sauteed in butter)

We had 5 days of rain last weekend so hoping weather is better this weekend.

Will be clinking you all at about 5:30 my time!

Wow, I'm in early!!!
We're supposed to have a break in the rain, so will be putting the garden to bed. Open house at the fire station, get burn permit, bake bread, make saurkraut, church and potluck.
Looks like no nap this weekend...but maybe!

TGIF y'all! Welcome to the newbies and my old friends. Happy Thanksgiving to those up north! Houseguests were last weekend and it was wonderful! They were fabulous and helpful guests, we had a blast! It was good to have the house full again! Tomorrow I've got a chiro session scheduled, a haircut and then the wedding of a co-worker. It should be a nice event. Sunday we're taking MIL out to brunch and then marketing. She's the one who lost her license in August and has gotten a learner's permit (at 90!) to try and retake the test after driving lessons. She's a sharp cookie, she might just be able to do it. If not, we'll have to consider the alternative sources of transportation. The taxi coupons are a joke, everything around here is a $25+ plus fare--one way!! Sunday later afternoon and eve we've got plans with friends and hopefully an activity. We'll see... Happy Birthday Susie! Nancy, I'd love to be in Traverse City this weekend for the festival! Have fun! Maggie- good luck on the sale! TGIF everyone. I've been too busy to get into the holiday spirit this year. Bagged putting up a tree, and didn't bother with the usual lights. Work is decorated and that's where I spend most of my time. We'll go to The Kid's for Christmas and she's all into being a Martha (Stewart), so I don't feel too deprived. It's a long weekend for me, with a rare Saturday off. It's been an odd week, including bunch of deadlines, contentious meetings and being the victim of a random act of kindness (detailed on the Conversations side). I started out my weekend Thursday night with a deep tissue massage... came home, had a glass of wine and fell soundly asleep in my chair. Ahhhhh....... Today was a trip to town for a doctor appt. during our first real snow. People got complacent, I think...wrecks and ambulances everywhere. So we grabbed some groceries and ran for home. I got my sis's package mailed.... main mission accomplished. Tomorrow I'll wrap the kids' presents, put together goodie baskets for work. Maybe bake something using the wonderful crystallized ginger one of my girls brought me from Australia. Sunday DH made an appointment for a hearing test. At noon. At Costco. On the Sunday before Christmas. argh. Clinking with a cup of eggnog laced w/ rum. Be healthy and travel safely everyone.

Toolbelt ( neat handle!!) I can't speak for the States but in Canada the homeless are almost always mentally ill or addicts. They resist any type of shelter provided to them. Even temporary shelter when it is bitter cold. They are paranoid and distrustful. Another large segment are runaway children that have left incredibly abusive homes. These kids are a bit easier to get to and persuade to take the help that is available. Many years ago the laws were changed so that no person could be held in any type of facility against their will. The hospitals for the mentally disabled were shut down with little or now support put in it's place. It's truly a tragic situation. Part of me says these people should be sheltered for their own well being and another part says they are entitles to live as they "choose" Anyhow, this is a real twist and turn for TGIF but perhaps a good one in that we all need to open our eyes to the unfortunate circumstances of others,

You have the right attitude Susie. You just have to move forward, fill out the online apps and then start those projects you have always meant to get to. I was unemployed for 19 months. That was pretty much my day. Up at 4:00am to view the job boards and get my app in right away. When I wasn't in school, I was working on stuff around the house, yard or working part time for my friend that is a vendor at the Farmer's Market. I still don't have a full time job - but I am on a 6 month assignment with my former employer. See if there are any educational $$ for unemployed people. Ask thru your state job force office. Last Summer Microsoft offered free online classes in a program they called "Elevate America." Improving your skills is always a good thing to mention in an interview. It tells the employer you are working at getting ahead - always a positive thing! Taking up a form of exercise will get those endorphins going, keep your spirits up and keep you in shape. I took up running while I was unemployed and now I'm an addict! I'm in withdrawal because I have only run 3 times in the last 3 weeks. Best of luck to you. TGIF, all!

Lori, that's very cool....your kids will be tickled, and they'll remember things like that forever.

Janet, I'll be curious to see how that salad is....2 boxes of apples appeared at my house last night.

We'll be burning this weekend, too, Deanna (I hope!). We don't need permits from Oct. - May and the brush piles are calling me. Fall chore time...I don't want to even think about what comes next....

It's typical fall weather here, finally...the deciduous trees turned late, and the tamaracks are starting...always a treat when everything goes to gold at once. I have today off and DH is off installing a kitchen so I'm home alone...a rare treat. I think I'll make another latte and dig out winter clothes and pack away the summer stuff. I hear rumors that DH is actually going to finish the woodwork in our bedroom and trade a designer friend cabinets for plastering my room and bath. Which means I need to go carpet shopping...whoo-hoo!

Tomorrow I sub at our branch, which is small and not very busy...it'll be like a vacation. Sunday's supposed to be nice, so we will burn and clean up the yard, take the last of the tomatoes out of the greenhouse and plant a bunch of garlic.

Happy thoughts to Sara! We are all hoping or improvements every day.

Lori - I hope yu have a blast. DH and I were just talking earlier about what we are going to do with our kids when we take our annual holiday trip to the city. I think we are going to take the to see a matinee Broadway production of Dr Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas, then off to dinner.

To everyone who is burning - stay safe.

Janet - definitely report back - that sounds really tasty.

I am meeting some friends for a happy hour clink here, then home to finish spackling walls. Saturday will probably be spent sanding and more spackling. What a fun life I lead LOL!

Sunday I am chairing a fundraiser brunch or some of our local candidates then home to scream really loudly for my Pats to beat DH's fav team - Dallas. This is a huge rivalry in our house anyway and made even bigger this year since both teams are undefeated.

Super busy weekend ahead for us, too. A friend's dad was a WWII fighter pilot and is speaking tomorrow morning at the local library. We will be attending that, then going to their home for a BBQ.

Later I have to go help my mom move into her new townhome. After that I am going to a girlfriend's for an overnite "chick party".

Sunday we'll finish up the basement in preparation for our annual soup party next weekend. Then in the evening we have to attend a wake for a friends son that died of AIDS Wednesday. So sad...

Whew! I am tired just thinking about it all!

More good thoughts going out to Sarah, hope her progress continues. And to those with other health issues, too.

TGIF indeed !!!!!!!!!! It's a beautiful Friday in Connecticut and in keeping with the tradition DW and I started when we were first married, no cooking on Friday's!

So tonight will be Chinese takeout. We're going to a local theater with friends for dinner and theater - BYO. I'm thinking shrimp fried rice with a couple of eggs rolls and of course, a bottle of wine.

Tomorrow morning I'm off with the troop to do some backpacking on the Appalachian Trail. I get the new Scouts and Dads who haven't done this before. Nothing like dehydrated food and a fresh pot of coffee!!!

But it will be a perfect fall weather weekend!!!!!

Enjoy the journey.

i LOVE your idea lori--and i'll bet the kids are thrilled, no matter what you decided to do once you got there!

and we've had alot of rain here too, CM but i don't think we can top your 5 days worth in a weekend :) today is surprisingly bright and pretty but quite cool. our time outside is coming to a close pretty quickly i'm afraid. time to pick the last of the tomatoes and rake the shoreline and mow one last time. ted mentioned pulling in the boat but i'm not listening to him, even if he is right! i like to take pics of the changing trees but there isn't an awful lot of color yet so i hope to hold him off a little bit longer.

good luck with that spackling, alexa! lord i just hate that job...and sloth that i am, eal's hiking and dehydrated food sounds WAY better to me! and since the yankees aren't playing, we will make time to watch the red sox in action. enjoy!
