TGIF 8-10-07 Is it hot where you are at:)

Well we are at the start of a heat wave now. Boy does it get hot hot hot quick. My mom is still with us until this weekend but may come back for next week. I am feeling lots better but still can't lift anything heavier than the baby. Hayden is growing like a weed. His little face is getting chubby, Rhiannon has been helping me feed him bottles in the afternoon. You forget just how much time you use up when breast feeding. Hayden eats every 2-3 hours but also takes some long naps.

My sis came up last night and brought me 20 pounds of tomatoes so Annie's salsa is on the agenda. Rhiannon helped me pick peppers and the only problem is that I forgot to mark the spice banana peppers, and she took a big bite out of one and burned her mouth. She is so weird, she will eat half a bell pepper and 4 roma tomatoes for breakfast. She is such a vegetarian. Funny thing is that Peyton won't eat a veggie or any raw fruit no matter what. Such a difference in children. So we will see how canning goes with 3 little helpers. I remember making salsa while breast feeding Peyton. I had her in the sling eating while I cut up the tomatoes.

It is supposed to be hot with 100+ heat indexes for the next week. DH starts school on Monday so the kids and I will be home alone. Rhiannon will start school after labor day, just preschool but will miss my little helper.

It's not to bad here for "Hot August Nights" in the low 90's This weekend will wrap up the old car annual shows here in Reno. They put a lot of sweat and money in those old cars....
We'll go to tonight, it cools off here in the evening so it'll be a nice stroll looking at all the cars.

103 yesterday, and 103 again today with a heat index of 107.

Stacie, one of my girls begs for fruit and veggies, the other for salt, fat and carbs. It's funny how different they are.

A lot has happened around here in a short time. Wodka - ((((HUGS)))) to you and your sister. I think of you often. Dee - ((((HUGS)))) you have been through way too much lately. In September I am going to NJ and will try to hook up with you at some point - so I can give you a hug in person. Marci - ((((HUGS)))) to you as well. I had to redo my pap once and it is unnerving. When will you have the results? I hope you have fun with your friend at the Shaker Woods fair today. Besh - thank you for your kind words. I do enjoy painting, as frustrating as it can be at times LOL. I just sold the one you like, Wednesday night. It was my largest piece to date. I also sold the boat on Saturday. Both of my top money pieces - now I need to paint more LOL. We have the fly problem on the boat as well. My family thought I had lost it the other day. I was all set for a nice peaceful time on the lake with a book in hand and those little buggers just appeared from nowhere. I got up with a towel and just started swatting and screaming. Like you said, you take off and they stay right with you. We have had them before, but they are relentless this year. Sorry to hear about DIL grandmother, but glad they will be with you. Milkdud - I am so happy that things are working out with you in your new neighborhood. It sounds like you are going to be very involved socially very soon. My daughter has been using the TX mug you sent me. I hope it isn't missing when she leaves LOL. Patti - Blueberry muffins sound great - my DH can BBQ and reheat food (and sometimes that is questionable) but he really can't cook at all. Which is fine for me, since I like to cook - he gets clean-up duty. BJ - come out, come out, wherever you are.... Suzanne - enjoy your time out on the high seas. I love our lake and it is plenty big (32 miles long), but there is something about being out on the ocean that is so special and I know you are going out there in style. Donna - Are you still working out? I am down to twice a week, but do try to get cardio in on most of the other days - I have to admit I haven't been living up to my expectations lately. I did get it in today and I moved it up on my priority list. McPeg - Marci was nice enough to post some of my paintings on her photo site. If you need the address let me know. I will have to privately email it to you. QOD #1 - I'm with Marci. I always thought how cool it would be to be Samantha from Bewitched. Stacie, it's NEVER good to hide things, that's a strain in itself. Both parties should suffer equally with financial issues, I think! Maggie, good luck with that room. I HATE painting. Be careful with the fumes, remember you have to take care of that bean. duane, I moved into my house 23 years ago and swore never again. It IS the only way to truly clean house, though. Stick to your guns Susie. I can feel your tension and hope you take good care of yourself. You will never be there for mom if you don't attend to your needs first. Being healthy and strong allows you to give more with less effort. Sounds like your mom is throwing a guilt trip at you so shrug it off. So hard when you want to help someone and they turn good intentions against you. Moms good luck with all those children... hope the sicky ones recover, those to be come healthy, and those that hope find their dreams. I didn't post yesterday as I was on the road for hours. My alma matter had invited me to attend a lunch/lecture/ and what was probably a wake. A dear departed "sociological technologist" was appreciated with a presentation of his final study given by one of his associates. Lunch was steak strips with a fancy peppery sauce. My table was joined by three beautiful current students happy to enjoy a free lunch. I couldn't hear those across the table from me but the young lady next to me was excited about pursuing a career in enviromental law. We had an alumni at the table currently working in that field so the talk was hot and heavy about what law school might be a good choice. The study was presented after lunch and was about the Internet habits of young people. It looked at the integration of technology into the social lives of high school students... facebook, my space, and creative outlets. Later we met in a quiet room of mostly faculty and memories of the late 60's and 70's and the school's founding were shared by those who were at the scene of the crime. Then we got down to business with cocktails and a connection time. I was a bit of an oddity because most students are fairly wealthy and go on to graduate programs and fancy careers. The college has some intest in using me as an example of what can be done with a liberal arts education without law school. They like that I was able to reinvent myself over and over to meet the challenges of my life. For awhile I sat with the Dean and drunkenly bent his ear about skills I've found critical but aquired after school. I stopped for a burger at a the Harrison Roadhouse which is just off campus and sobered up for the long drive home. For me drunk is about three drinks these days so an hour and food was plenty to get me on my way. I so needed that touching back with a place and people that gave me my adult life. Linda, Time is marching on for me too although I caught myself saying dogs instead of dog the other day and broke down, Other than that I've been staying strong. I really like your spooky village! Did you get it at Michaels?? I have 2 buildings from the Michaels line but I don't really decorate for halloween so much. It took me 19 minutes to get there from my job!! Of course there was NO TRAFFIC since EVERYBODY and their brother was heading INTO Philly for the parade LOL!!! My target area is nearby NJ. So I did see the house from the outside. Very cute!! We'll see if we like it from the inside when we tour it on Sunday. I walked around a bit...even took my mail to the post office there in town and mailed some cards LOL! Then I drove to the battlefield on the river, which is now a National Park (hence the town name National Park). I sat there and read thru some home books. Its really nice to have such a lovely park right there in town!! Tonight I am having one special trick or treater stopping by...dear great neice Alexia!! I don't know what they are dressing her as so it should be fun!! I got her some books and animal crackers!! She is 10 months now and just starting to walk/wobble!! Drew is still at the parade with his girlfriend and her family. Both of us have to work tomorrow-jeez its funny saying that LOL! Sunday we are going on house tours. Stacie, we have had something like 24 or so 90+ degree days this summer. I think we broke the record for hottest summer ever recorded here!

I want do some canning next weekend if I can find tomatoes at the farmers market.

TGIF, all. Our heat wave just broke, hallelujah....upper 70's today....what a nice change. It's supposed to be in the 90's next week again, though...ugh.

Don't get too hot canning that salsa, Stacie.

Linda, we had our old car show weekend before last. It's amazing how many people are into fixing up old cars, considering our small population.

Linda, it must be The Weekend...have fun!

Tonight is the Relay for Life....teams walk the high school track all night to raise money for cancer research. Last year our three little towns raised 46K and they've already raised 52K so far this year. DH and I will go in and walk some laps and I get to get on my early detection soapbox. Nice way to celebrate the first anniversary of my diagnosis. I even get a purple survivor t-shirt (me and waaaaay too many of my friends!).

Tomorrow is a work day, then dinner out with some friends. Sunday is our last trip to the summer theater. Kiss Me Kate this time.

TGIF everyone! Awoke to a raging thunderstorm this morning. Lightning striking all around.

Now, you'd never even know it rained - it's headed for the upper 90's and a heat index of around 105Â°. Miserable and VERY humid.

It's Daddy's weekend with my daughter, so I'm going to go and play bingo and smoke cigarettes to my heart's content. Hope I win!

One more week until I begin Culinary school. I'm thinking of starting a blog.... I'll let y'all know if I do.

I'll be clinking to you all tonight with a huge margarita!

beastly here just east of WashDC. Set all-time high temp at all three airport day before yesterday. Very dry, too. Supposed to get a break today or tomorrow -- low 90s.

The State Fair opened yesterday.....what can I say....it's hot..and humid! Supposed to go watch grand children dance in a show at the fair at noon on Sunday....That means I will either have to leave at dawn or park a mile and a half away and walk through the fields to the fair...If I am not there by 8 AM the parking will be out of sight!
Much as I hate to, I may beg off.....

Cooler and rainy here on L.I. today. We have a black tie wedding tomorrow to attend an hour from here and 2 and 1/2 hrs between church and reception. DH NOT happy about it at all...Can't think of where we can shop in between in our Black Tie attire...Costco? LOL Getting dressed up for weddings in summer is a chore...and we have 3 in a row this month, only one is black tie, TG! I like the kind Annie wrote about with the guests taking wagon rides down the hill, lol.

Our heat wave ended yesterday after several days of very warm temps. The new addition to our factory features block walls and was built half underground to take advantage of the cool earth. So far this has kept us at the 100 degree mark the last few days. All the floor workers are getting extra time at lunch to cool off in our brand new air conditioned lunch room. People started training on the new product lines yesterday. Looks like I'm going to become a day shift person... big meeting today but I've already been pulled aside and told I've got a day position if I put in for it. Feeling as good as I've felt in many months. New people are being hired at the rate of 10 per week so as not to over run our ability to train them. All positions are full time with benefits and a living wage so the factory is full of happy new faces. A once in a lifetime thing around here.

82F and sunny...1:45 Fri! I'll be in the lake soon! Upper 80's to near 90 most if this past week...dry...very dry...lawns burnt up... but lucky that it's been going down to the low 60's at night. Glad we are having great weather for company!

Not too bad here at the beach. About 73 degrees right now at 11:10 am.

The Journal of a Girl who Loves To Cook - a really young girl in Australia. Her decorated cakes are awesome.

I am packed with busy-ness as usual this weekend. My SIL is staying with us while she attends a 3-day seminar near the L.A. airport. Tomorrow we have invited a customer to visit our home for a walk at the beach and going out to dinner. Which means I'll be cleaning like a tornado tonight! And sometime tomorrow my brother is bringing his friend to come pick up my old Saturn coupe (sniff, if we had a 3-car garage we'd keep it - so cute.)

Then Sunday is my second real ping pong lesson from a pro. I got a new paddle last week before my first lesson. Bad news is I've been playing all wrong! Good news is the instructor "loves" my swing form and thinks I'm a natural. Heh-heh! We'll see. At lunchtime I want to go buy some new sneakers - mine don't have enough tread to play on a concrete floor for hours.

Congratulations on your one-year anniversary Katie! You go girl!

Michael, definitely grab that day shift - night shift is just not healthy - as you know.

It's 71Â° here at noon, but feels like 72Â°. We're supposed to have a high of 74Â°, which is quite a bit cooler than the mid 80s we had during our heat wave last week-end. I expect the beach to be crowded again - I will be glad when tourist season is over.

My sister and BIL were visiting last week-end, and BIL thought it was cold at night, and so I got him another blanket to use. He was unaware that we were having a heat wave.

Hot as H here - 93 degrees with humidity factor 105 degrees. I normally run in the morning - around 6:00 - too hot to do that now as it just zaps me for the day. Our AC died yesterday - we had to buy a window unit to be comfortable to sleep. The AC guys just left and I am finally cooling down - a major expense but necessary.... Ugh!

Out for dinner tonight - canning Linda Lous's sweets on Sunday in the heat outside.....they are worth standing over the canner! And possibly some peach and/or cherry jam as the prices are great now on fruit.

ah--the end of a very hot week indeed! it broke last night here and we had drizzle most of the morning and it's a very sunny, lovely 70ish degrees here now.

glad to hear that you and hayden are doing well, stacie! and there is a small restaurant that holds a small antique car show once a week over the summer here--there sure are some beauties in the area!

oh linda--i can only imagine the fun that you'll be having on that canoeing trip! i do hope that there will be pics posted. and katie--it sounds as if the weather broke just in time for the relays. and BIG congrats to you, as well as the $52k raised so far--that's fabulous!

i imagine you must be pretty darned excited pat! the changes that you've been through in the past year or so are really quite enormous--best wishes to you! and to you too, kathleen. i can't imagine dressing black tie in this weather AND having to while away a couple of hours on top of that! but i'm sure it will be lovely.

i'm really happy to hear that a manufacturing company that pays a decent wage is expanding--that's fabulous news that i don't hear very often. i assume that you'll take the day shift michael and i hope you'll enjoy it! and not a doubt in my mind that gina will enjoy her upcoming professional lesson! i've heard you mention playing ping pong a couple of times over the years--how great that you have a hobby that you continue to enjoy so much!

we just got home a little more than 24 hours ago. i'm happy to say that even at 90, dad enjoys lobster every bit as much as he did a couple decades ago :) my sister sylvia's 2 children both made it out to my parents' cottage for a short visit--heather just finished her master's degree in education and teaches in ny city and michael is the banquet manager for a hotel in syracuse. he is newly engaged and brought jenn (and her son, jakob) out to meet us. so i'll raise my glass to the happy couple, and wish them many sunny years together! clink, clink!

I am in Guilford, Ct at our summer cottage for the month. Yesterday I was worried about sunburning while kayaking. Today it was 58 degrees and rainy. I didn't mind though. Hung out with cousins and our kids and lit a fire in the wood stove. Took a quick trip into town for a bottle of cabernet. Tomorrow will be in the 80's again.

It's 9:14 pm, and 85, with a "feels like" of 93! Crazy! High was 96. Yes, I am in S. FL! I have not ventured out to the garden, it is just crisping up! The AC has not stopped running! I just know it is going to give out. Even the pool water is hot! I am looking forward to October!

TGIF for sure!! I've been on the road all week and I'm glad to be home FINALLY!!

Stacie, hot as heck here too...but I LOVE summer so the heat doesn't bother me at all. I'll take it over winter and cold temps.....yuck.

Linda, I know for sure you will have a great time with the girls....I still remember when I finally figured out your forum name.

Katie, congrats to beating the big "C" pal! I'm still shocked at how you pulled that off at camp last year. I still love you stemless glass tip!

Pat, I missed the culinary school thing. Too cool! I'd love to read your blog or at least follow up here on the forum. What a trooper you are with all you've been through the last couple of years.

Andi, Linda's pickles are WORTH the nine day effort for sure!! I love them...and they are CRUNCHY after all of those boiling soaks.

San, glad to hear you had a great time at the cottage. I see you have been up to some other fun too...I'm REALLY jelous over that one.

Hot here too, triple digit temps are forcasted through next week here. I've been on the road all week and glad to be home....so is Lucy. I'm headed back to the city tomorrow to take in a little of the PGA...Tiger ended the day very good today. I'll be doing some more canning tomorrow evening...that a general chores sum up my weekend so far.....ya never know who may show up at the lake.
