I think that green would be pretty. I don't think I would go with cream , as I prefer more contrast between the cabinets and walls. What about the color of your pie safe? I think that that would look great (though you'd probably have to paint or move the pie safe). But that might be too much color for the great room. Sorry I'm no photoshopper. What are your favorite colors? What colors make you feel happy? And what feel/style do you want? Cheerful? Serene? Sleek? Country cozy? I think it would help if you gave us more guidance. Color is a very personal thing.

Thank you for your reply. I agree that I do need contrast between the cabinets and the walls. Do you have any green color considerations? The pie safe is barn red, just like the one in the posted picture. Since the pie safe is a done deal. I am trying to work with colors that will complement it and the light maple cabinets. I love warm yellows, reds, beige browns, white, and light greens. I think I read on another post that these are colors consistent with a cottage feel, so I would like to acheive a modern cozy cottage/country atmosphere. Does that make any since? As far as the kitchen ladderback chairs, my DH would prefer them in black, however I'm partial to white.
I guess it would depend on what color ends up on our walls.

I'm not a color guru but i try to help when i can. I was just checking out the benjamin moore vitual fan deck and in the greens i liked - acadia green and light pistachio, the browns...there were so many it was overbearing to look at! they all sort of started to look the same.
yellows - morning sunshine and yellow lotus were nice.
Again, i'm sure the computer monitor colors vs. real life are different. And reds..did you really want to use a red since the pie safe is red? How dark did you want to go? I'm sorry I don't know how to photoshop. Your kitchen is very lovely!

I did my kitchen in BM Olive Branch, but since your cabinets are a lighter color, I think you should probably use a lighter, fresher green. That would give a cottage feel too, and the pie safe would be a nice contrast. I can't suggest specific colors, since I can never remember the names.

Thank you for the resource. There are so many lovely colors to chose from. However I would agree about using red on the walls. Perhaps I should focus on a green hue to compliment the red pie safe and maple cabinets. They are coordinating colors are they not?

I'm working with the Ben Moore program. I tried to find something like EK Edgewood Green but hard to do. I also wanted to try a lighter, crisp green to see if that might look more "cottage"

Thank you for the link to the cottage blog. There is a great picture of a kitchen with green painted walls and light cabinets. I am such a visual person. Or maybe alittle afraid of commitment. Anyhow, the green is starting to grow on me. You mentioned that you painted your kitchen BM Olive Branch, can you please post a picture of it? I would love to see it. Another thing, I always thought since my cabinets are light in color that I needed to go with a darker paint color for contrast. I really don't care for dark dark colors, I guess I don't want to feel enclosed (personal belief). However, when I see pictures in magazines the dark colors look very nice. Netters

As for colors in our greatroom. We have a light maple built in entertainment center (just like the kitchen cabinets), so we are thinking that whatever color we decide on for the kitchen we will continue it to the greatroom. We plan on ordering a new sofa and chairs to continue our cozy modern cottage/country theme. So essentially we are working with a blank slate. But I'll save the greatroom for another post.

I think Edgewood Green would not be too bright and it would go well with that fabric. Do you actually have the fabric and paint chip in hand?

I have a sample of the fabric, not the paint chip. I noticed that the red in the fabric on my computer screen appears pink. However, the red is the same color as the pie safe.

lindybart: I'm looking at greens for my kitchen as well - a BM color similar to edgewood green is called nantucket gray from their historical color collection. HTH

netters, the darker green looks wonderful. The lighter green doesn't make your cabinets stand out as much. What a beautiful kitchen you have!

Hi netters! The virtuals are really just a way to get you in the right direction and I think you are already there with the Ellen Kennen Edgewood Green. It looks great with that fabric in virtual world. Now, you just need to grab some paint samples and put them up on your walls and in your own lighting. They may read different than you see here. Also have a look at Crown Point Sand. It's a beautiful, subtle, earthy green. It's Not as dark or grey as Nantucket Grey. I'm looking at the photoshopped color of NG above, and it looks more like Crown Point Sand to me. I have it in my kitchen with maple cabinets that are a little darker than yours. Really pretty. Even my husband, who doesn't care for green, loves it.

Since not all paint colors appear on monitors as they do in the can or on the wall, I would like for you to look at Sherwin-Williams Sawdust before buying. I think it would look great with your countertop color, your fabric, your wood and that pretty little red cabinet. It is similar to Edgewood Green but a little more brown that leans toward blending with your counters and preventing the red from looking Christmas-like. You have a lovely kitchen.

If you look at Sawdust on line, it is nothing like the paint chip or the wall color. :) JMHO

DH was quick to point out that you had black chairs in your nook (which he wants) instead of white (what I want). I must admit the black with EG looks very nice. If you don't mind me asking, what fabric colors are you using with your EG?

You nailed it! DH and I have been seaching for paint and fabrics that will compliment our Baltic Brown granite counters, cabinets, tile work and the red cabinet (which I just had to have and am now realizing how difficult it is to coordinate). DH has expressed concerned about paint colors appearing too dark against the light beige tile and backsplash. He even mentioned that perhaps we need to look for a paint that has "a little more brown" to blend everything together. And you also have a good point, I love Christmas, but not year round. We will definetly check out the paint color Sawdust at Shermin Williams this weekend.

Thanks Netters! Yes, I have black chairs around a darker wood table. The fabric on the chairs is below. It was the only thing that I liked with the chairs in the fabric choices at the store:

I don't have any WT in my kitchen because I am stuck! I don't know what to put on the large window by the table that will coordinate with the fabrics in the FR as shown above.

I just wanted to add that after I did the virtual of Patricia's sawdust, I have to say that THAT is what Edgewood Green looks like to me at times. More brown than the virtual shows. Search EK Edgewood Green on the first page here and you will find a number of threads with pics. Don't know if you already have seen them! Also, I have PB rush seat stools at the island that WERE white, but I painted them black when we remodeled the kitchen. It went better with my Tropical brown granite that has black in it and the SS appliances! HTH!

Thank you for posting your fabrics. We definetly have similiar tastes. I am also looking for a nice chenille brownish yellow sofa and coordinating chairs for my greatroom. I do recall seeing your sofa fabric at Thomasville. It's very pretty. And OMG, your red floral fabric looks very similiar to the fabric I chose without the red background. You know I never thought of using a solid green as a fabric liner for the kitchen WT's. I have been looking for a red and yellow plaid to line the floral fabric. Sandra12 posted a picture of her valances, which I think will work well in my kitchen, maybe they might work in yours too. I also planed to use the red/yellow plaid on the chairs and stools. Now, I just need to find a pretty plaid. (So, I totally understand about finding fabrics to coordinate.) Also your granite is very similiar to ours, has almost the same colors just different pattern. My DH is still trying to convince me that the black chairs and stools will "go better with our granite". I just might change my mind. What is the brand of your chairs?

My chairs and table are from Arhaus Furniture. Someone else on this forum had my floral fabric on her kitchen windows and used a small red and yellow/gold check underneath. She then added trim along the bottom edge to coordinate. It was very pretty! I think the small check she used was the Lynley fabric. I know Lynley comes in a bunch of different colorways. I also like Colburn fabric in Canyon (red/green). Matter of fact, country curtains has the Colburn fabric I am talking about in a victory swag. I have it saved in my favorites. I might just order it to see how it looks. Here it is in case it works for you:

Here's a pic when my kitchen was almost done. Excuse the lack of some knobs and pulls, but you get the idea. Also, I took a close up of the wall against the cabinets and countertop today for you to get a better look of Crown Point Sand. Yes, it's a Benjamin Moore color -- historical collection. My countertop is Verde Butterfly, so it is a very dark green, to give you a point of reference -- darker and greener than your countertop. Also, my cabinets are darker than yours.

The WT's from country curtains are very cute. And they gave me great inspiration. I'm brainstorming now.....WT's could be green/cream check pattern with tassel trim to compliment the paint and use the floral pattern in the greatroom, possible panels? Hmmmm...
