I just heard it won't happen until June 12th.

and all those folks that ran out and got new TV's.. are surely mad now.

My daughter might breathe a sigh of relief, LOL, she is not planning on getting a new TV, nor a box. She thinks/hopes to do without.

I've heard a lot of things about it too and one said it would be too expensive for all the stations to wait so I guess we will just have to wait and see. Won't affect me since I have cable

I am having the same difficulty. I would like to put the fireplace in a corner (I personally don't like having the TV off to the side on the same wall. In theory I would like it on a corner, but my room is all windows on one side, an a straight wall that joins a hallway so I'm not sure how that would would. As for it being too high, my current plan is to get a very comtemporary low fireplace. Currently we have a similar set up and while the TV is a bit higher than I like it (maybe 6 or 8 inches) with it tilted downwards it has never felt uncomfortable. Picture Frame Lift to Hide TV Over Fireplace?

So a couple of other ideas you might want to try. Samsung makes their Frame TV that shows your favorite artwork when not in use. https://www.samsung.com/us/explore/frame-tv/highlights/ Only downside is there is a separate 14.3" x 4.5" x 1.2" IO box that needs to be hidden out of view somewhere and still connect to this TV. You could actually hide the IO box in the recess and then install the frame TV over the top assuming the mounting hardware will reach past the edges of the recess. Another option to look at his Seura TV which is the same idea but a mirror when not in use. https://www.seura.com/products/smart/ They have two flavors-- a bathroom mirror type where even at 2-3" from the mirror you cannot see the TV. The TV quality is not as good but a better mirror. The second is the Living Room mirror type where you cannot see the TV when standing 3ft or farther from the TV. Not as good of a mirror but a better quality TV. On this one be careful on the 4k side as they are 4kUHD compliant but not HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, or HDR compliant the last I checked. That's a bunch of tech compliance but bottom line is you want all that in your TV if you want the very best picture available these days.

Where is your family room TV? Over Fireplace TV?

I have one over a fireplace, and I love it. the rest of that wall is windows, so it was the only spot. My fireplace is gas, and there are clear guidlines about the clearence from combustibles and the like. There are heat concerns. It's commonly stated that you can't have the TV on when the temp there is 95 degrees. Easy for me to monitor, I just keep the fireplace remote there, sometimes programed to turn off the fire when the area hits that. If the fireplace is woodburning, controling the heat could be a problem and you might simply have to turn the tv off sometimes. I suspect that the 95 is a purely random number, though. Lots of homes get that hot, and we haven't heard many reports in the media about flat screens failing from it. To me, watching the fire or watching the tv are different activities that I rarely want to do at the same time. I love having the fire on for conversation, reading, playing a game, and those are times I'd rather have the TV off anyway. We do burn the fire to take the chill off the room on movie nights, but at a pretty low level. As to veiwing angle: it's about 5 ft above the floor, and the seating is about 12 feet back. It seems a little odd if you are used to a conventional set just inches off the floor, but you quickly adapt. It isn't at all uncomfortable for me or any of my family [so far as anyone has ever mentioned], and the kids and dogs don't block the screen everytime they walk by. Overall, I think its a good solution for many rooms. Just be sure to plan for power and signal up there: you don't want a lot of visible wires.

I am happy to hear it. Digital isn't great for us - especially in stormy weather. Our satellite drops out then too.

My DB works for a cable company and many of our stations are digital now. The pictures are SO clear.

Moni, does she have cable or a dish? She'll be okay. I have Dish Network. I did get a box for at the trailer/cabin as it has an antenna. I'll had DGS hook it up for me.

Congress, or whoever decides these things, didn't pass the extension. So it's still Feb. 17. At least that's what I heard on TV. And our cable co. is still running the blurb about changing over on 2/17. The news also said that it will cost the cable/dish companies to postpone because they will have to run both.

It's already been postpone several times. Time to just do it.

Well...I just hope they hold off until my MIL's other son can get his head out of his butt long enough to figure out how to program hers! He got it hooked up, but can't seem to get it programmed..so at the moment, she can't watch anything!

Just looked it up and I'm wrong. The first bill (last week) was rejected but is being rewritten and voted on this week. They expect the postponement to go through and Obama will sign the bill.

Sorry for the misinformation ;-(

We bought 2 converter boxes for our TV's and don't have a clue how to hook them up. We have satellite, antenna for local stations, DVD, VCR etc., too many wires back behind the TV for us. Hoping we can find someone with the smarts to hook ours up for us.

Even though delayed until June, US News & World Report says that nearly a fifth of the nation's TV stations could still switch to digital broadcasts on Feb 17th. anyway. That would be about 300 of the 1,700 stations affected by the move from analog to digital. About 50 other stations have already made the switchover.

So if someone is not prepared in a couple of weeks, some of the stations they now can watch may go to snow on the 17th.

I don't know what our cable company is going to do.........

BUT, they better not increase the bill until it is all new. I guess we are getting a $5.00 monthly increase for this.
