Please help me organize my drawers!
Comments (13)Good idea having the charity box going. for example, even one funnel is enough instead of having different sizes etc. so you might keep one and get rid of the rest. I also noticed you have two sets of measuring spoons and measuring cups so maybe keep one set of each and get rid of the spare set? This is what I've done and it has made life so much easier in the kitchen. If you're unsure, put the things you think you dont need in the goodwill box and keep adding to it, dont look in there and if after a couple of months you find you dont need to retrieve anything, you dont need it. I have my keyholder just on the side of an overhead cupboard near the kitchen entrance, because I find that when I go out or come back home I always end up in the kitchen anyway and if you come in with bags of shopping it's too much hassle to try and hang the keys until I put the shopping bags etc down which is in the kitchen. Also think about if you need the keys to lock deadlocks before you leave home, it might be a pain to have to get the keys from the mudroom first to lock up. my keyholder is jsut an mdf one which didnt cost much from a craft store, then i got some brass hooks from the hardware, painted it and put the hooks in before screwing to the side of a cupboard. It doesnt take up any space at all but I dont waste time looking around for my keys now which is such a time saver :) spare keys, we have lots of duplicates and I keep them in a container locked away so that if we get broken into the thieves wont find a set of keys lying around, which would mean getting all the locks changed and they could get hold of spare car keys so I dont keep those in the kitchen, they're too easy to find. I think the pot holders might get a bit greasy above the stove/in the range hood but if you have anywhere in the kitchen to fit a hook to the side of a cupboard or a wall they dont take up much space there and should be fine. you only use them once a day normally when making dinner. If you dont use the tile ones anymore then could you get rid of them? or you could put rings back on them (Im sure you could find something suitable at a hardware store) and then you could hang them on the walls for decoration or occasional use?...See MorePlease help me with my kitchen--need expert help!
Comments (9)Thanks so much for the offers of help. It is a difficult space to work with and all the "wants" I have. Right now there is a large dining table and chairs which are very much in the way due to its size. They will be moved into the new dining room. The 36" measurement between the island and the window wall does take into account chairs. I should have indicated that in the drawing. A movable work table would probably work best here. This is why I am coming to you guys for advice!...See MoreHelp to organize my husband
Comments (30)My DH has an entire shelf in his armoire for his misc. stuff. He even has a little wooden valet tray. He's supposed to put his keys, wallet, change, etc. there. Where does he usually put that stuff? On his nightstand. We have laundry baskets in the closet for dirty clothes and hooks on the back of the bathroom for pjs and his robe. We have a coat closet in the hall just outside our bedroom. Where does all that usually go? Draped over the arm of the chair in the bedroom. When I ask him, his answer is like mamapinky0's DH - "It's not dirty; I'm going to wear it again." But by the end of the week there's often a week's worth of clothes there. If I'm home when he gets home from work I'll just tell him to put his things away. And if he wants to wear them again, fine. They need to be folded or hung and put back in their original spot. It's definitely a challenge....See MorePlease help me decorate/organize/layout my very small office!
Comments (16)It depends on what you do in the office and how much you want to spend, but I would: Get rid of the rug entirely and leave the floor au natural, but add a desk chair mat under your chair to protect the floor. Add a few tall shelves or bookcases, depending on what you need them for (files vs equipment vs books) -- Ikea has some nice options that aren't expensive and are easy to assemble. I'd add colour to the window covering (different drape? coloured tie?) and then decide if you want art work/photos and/or a corkboard/white board. If your peripherals (like printers, etc) are small, you may want to consider something like Ikea's Kallax series, because they could fit in some of the boxes, while you use others for books or baskets. I wish I'd thought of that before I got the storage unit I did....See Moresherwoodva
