Comments (93)Prairiemoon, I decided not to make more comments on delphiniums. There will always be somebody new, who will drag it forward again anyway, so there is no sense in it. Second language??? English is actually my fourth language and I'm selftaught. Nevertheless it was assessed to be good enough to appoint me to be a global moderator on an US-based international forum in another branch. And let me tell you: although the Americans are in minority there, it is the most offended group of all (Australians runner-up). Nothing is too small to feel offended about,it seems like they love to feel offended. Nothing is too small to cause a stir. No opportunity is missed to feel offended, no matter how small, it's like they are fault finders or something. They try to find something that is not there. And then they use half an hour to tell each other what they actually meant and what they did not mean. Nobody else does it. The Dutch ones do not even have a word for sorry. So no, you are not right even on this account, either. And they remember being offended like elephants: til the day they die. As far as the Kevin's attack on me is concerned: it surprises me that you cannot see that it was totally unfounded and out of place. You seem to only notice "my sins". Comments (11)I don't hate housework because it's one of the few things I can do that is free and immediately has a great effect on me. However, I go for more tidy vs. spotless. I DO hate to clean when it's other people's messes over and over. Ann, if it's your kids' messes, that would drive me crazy. At my house, the only one who is not held accountable for that type of thing is the newborn and 2 y.o. (she helps, though). My other kids HAVE to clean up after themselves, period. My first thought when I start to be overwhelmed is to declutter-- hardcore. I do not like to declutter! It means I have to make decisions and find a way to get the stuff OUT once I decide. I find decluttering to be very time-consuming. Even FL's idea of 15 minutes is hard. I usually do not have 15 minutes a day without a child! A few ideas . . . "No nasty projects half done": get rid of the projects. You can rebuy what you need IF you ever really want to do them. They are just filling you with guilt. "No shoes thrown next to every door": Have a place for them that is easy for people to use-- cubbies or something. -"No week's worth of mail piled on the entry way table": don't allow yourself to put it down without first sorting through, and then throwing out IMMEDIATELY what you don't want. I find cleaning (and again, I am NOT talking about spotless-- just tidy and generally clean) to be easy when everything has its place. For me, the problem is that not everything has its place here . . .there is so much I want to get rid of but it will involve a lot of planning to get it OUT. For example, we stupidly said the original owners could leave pattern cabinets (metal ones from a sewing store) in the basement. WHY? They have no storage inside and they are nasty. I have to get them out! I have other furniture that I don't want but would be hard to move/not good to leave on the curb. So, I can use Freecycle, but again . . .that will take planning....See MoreWhat makes you happy?
Comments (47)There's a lot of things that make me happy....also many things for which I am thankful, which is also happiness-inducing. I too chat a bit more with people in public nowadays. Just a quick sentence or two. Especially for those in service jobs: working with the public can be very difficult and it's nice when you can give someone a reason to smile. Retirement has been great and made me and DH happy, so much less stress and no more clock-watching. Lots of books (paper and digital) to read makes me happy. Having my DH alive and well makes me happy; after a serious stroke at age 50 you stop taking togetherness for granted, that's for sure. The promise of good strong El NIno rains makes me happy, even if it cuts back on our local travels - I lost more plants to drought this summer than ever before. The success of finally putting solar panels on our roof makes us happy: it worked out great and the payback looks to be faster than we thought it would be. The remodeling of our master bdrm, which cost way more than I hoped but looks sensational, means it finally resembles the rest of the house....and after 25 yrs here that's a very good thing, LOL! The fact that most of our family and friends had a good year in 2015 is also cause for happiness....See MoreFloof- Little things you do for yourself that make you happy
Comments (45)Same as Amy....I don't deny myself anything if I want it and have the money. I do give consideration to whether or not I really need it, and sometimes I talk myself out of things....like another horse. I like going to thrift shops, auctions, yard sales, etc. My waterlilies and contemplating new ones that I want, and crosses that I want to make. Antique rose cuttings and planning for new ones and getting together with the Rose Rustlers to share cuttings. I eat what I want, when I want it. I don't diet or worry about gaining weight. I like sleeping with three or four of my cats. Walking with three of my dogs...the ones that mind the best and will stay right with me or immediately come back when I call them. I have wanted to walk in the Nati'l. Forest, and now that hunting season is over, I plan to do that...just hope I don't get lost like I did a couple of weeks ago, when I thought I was taking a short cut home, and ended up deep in the forest and stuck in the mud...at 9:30 at night with a dying phone and no flashlight. I enjoy my old horses and seeing them thrive, because almost all of them came from situations of severe neglect. I love when nothing is planned, no one is coming around, and I can spend the whole day by myself and just drift around the place, looking at the waterlilies, roses, fish, going to the old barn and seeing the bats in the hay loft. Fixing nice meals for my wild possums. Listening to my radio guy, who comes on twice a day....See More- 11 years ago
