I call my mother and we visit on the phone. I live in Massachusetts and she lives in Ohio. I miss her so much. We were finally able to see each other in September after almost 2 years because of this Covid virus. She will be 90 next month. We talked for almost an hour this morning!!

Down the street from my house is an artisan gallery in a small scenic barn. its owned by 2 potters with extraordinary vision for beauty.

So many, life is good! One activity that gives me particular pleasure in winter is visiting my plants in the basement. I have one large growing space for warm loving plants, one large space for cool growers. New LED lights, fan, heating mats. A calendar to track everyone's progress. I can easily spend an hour or two down there observing, tweaking, planning next steps.

Relax in the swimming pool or spa. In the winter (Dec - Feb) I do not heat the pool because it is too expensive, but the rest of the year I do. The spa is always nice and does not cost that much to heat in the winter.

Make pizzas in our Ooni pizza oven.

Eat lunch in the pergola.

Open packages of things that I forgot I had ordered (replaces shopping in person).

I like ordering new plants to try. I have 2 rose bushes that I need to replace and I am having fun looking through my catalogs. I am always so impatient for them to arrive!

I like wrapping up in a blanket and watching old cooking shows for hours and hours.

I like buying new pink kitchen items.

Occasionally I like to go to a casino and play a few dollars away. I prefer to win, but we all know how that goes.....

Anything made of chocolate make me happy. SO likes to TEASE that its the only reason I like him. eye roll....

Buying a new book

I just bought an onigiri and musubi molds from Amazon so I could make both.

I need another eye exam. My vision keeps changing and rather quickly.

Taking my early afternoon nap and reading, especially since it's been so cold here. Nothing like a great book.

For myself:

My haircut every 6 weeks at the salon I've been going to since I moved to the area. The hairdresser is a hoot and very good at her job. Its not snip snip and out the door place. She makes everyone feel special. She has an salon like our mothers went to in the past where the ladies also gathered to gab. Its not unusual that a customer walks in just to shoot the breeze. In the past 7 years I only missed one cut with her because she was forced to close. But I never missed getting my haircut, but it was going on 8 weeks. I just drove 20 min to the next state, but it wasn't the same experience.

Being retired I can wake up in the morning and just sit for a hour or two in my PJs doing nothing before I start my day.

I shop by myself. I never did like shopping with other women and certainly not hubby. Of course I'm not the kind that just goes shopping without an reason. But I could spend hours in a garden center just looking. Of course I usually don't leave empty handed.

Twice a month meeting with the women aux at the club. Fun group of ladies.

Neighbor hood garage sales, thrift stores, church flea markets, etc. I'm lucky if I spend $10 because I don't need more junk, but once in a while you do come across something special.

Once in a while when grocery shopping I will buy myself flowers. Why not.

Before Covid, once a year I'd leave my SO at home and travel from Prince Rupert BC to Victoria BC to visit with my best friend for a week or two. We usually text at least every day and when I arrive it's like we were never apart. We cook up 'special' suppers, watch sappy chick flick movies, order in meals we love but find too complicated to make, share the good, bad & ugly news from when we last saw each other and in general recharge. Her hubby is very accommodating thankfully 😊.

Any time spent with the horses or riding them of course.

Taking an entire day off to lay about and read.

I love to eat out alone. Just sit, enjoy my meal, and watch people.

I like short solo road trips also. After about 5 days I am ready for home.

Beach/ocean days. Walking on the beach, sitting on the pier watching the sunset, the sounds of the sea life and birds settling in for the night, the lapping of the water, the smell.

In warm weather taking a nap outdoors in my hammock. Doesn't start out to be a nap but so relaxing I usually drop off for a bit.

I am enjoying reading each and every reply. As I read them, I am relating and agreeing with 98% of the answers here.

What strikes me though, is the recognition that these small things do bring joy. We all say "its the little things" and it is so true.

Today, planning my back door garden and buying seeds and plants. It is bitter cold and I am dreaming of it.

It's so cold here, I couldn't help it, always collect a few fur hats each winter even though I have more than enough. It's called winter adventure in style. :-) For other seasons: gardening, swimming, riding scooters, I also like mowing the lawn with a push lawn mower or a zero turn, I think it as an outdoor gym.

Same as Amy....I don't deny myself anything if I want it and have the money. I do give consideration to whether or not I really need it, and sometimes I talk myself out of things....like another horse.

I like going to thrift shops, auctions, yard sales, etc.

My waterlilies and contemplating new ones that I want, and crosses that I want to make.

Antique rose cuttings and planning for new ones and getting together with the Rose Rustlers to share cuttings.

I eat what I want, when I want it. I don't diet or worry about gaining weight.

I like sleeping with three or four of my cats.

Walking with three of my dogs...the ones that mind the best and will stay right with me or immediately come back when I call them. I have wanted to walk in the Nati'l. Forest, and now that hunting season is over, I plan to do that...just hope I don't get lost like I did a couple of weeks ago, when I thought I was taking a short cut home, and ended up deep in the forest and stuck in the mud...at 9:30 at night with a dying phone and no flashlight.

I enjoy my old horses and seeing them thrive, because almost all of them came from situations of severe neglect.

I love when nothing is planned, no one is coming around, and I can spend the whole day by myself and just drift around the place, looking at the waterlilies, roses, fish, going to the old barn and seeing the bats in the hay loft. Fixing nice meals for my wild possums.

Listening to my radio guy, who comes on twice a day.

Kathsgrdn, I've been wanted to buy a Tamagoyaki Japanese Omelette Pan, but I have not been able to convince myself that I need to spend $23 in order to make rectangular omelets. At some point I will probably do it because I have watched too many Youtube videos on the topic.

Well, now thanks to honibaker, playing Worldle once a day...

I treat myself to a cup of coffee, maybe a sandwich, always something sweet like pastry or cookies, and a crossword puzzle most every day at noon or 12:30pm.

When friends ask me what I have been doing, I'm almost embarrassed to say I work crossword puzzles - like I'm being idle. Not that I don't have chores to do and errands to run, but I really enjoy this daily habit.

A few of my small pleasures.

I love mixing grape juice with President's choice Blueberry Pomegranate Sparking Water. My preferred ratio is one can of the water and the rest grape juice. I don't drink it all the time due to the cans. They are in aluminum and aluminum is recyclable so that makes me feel a little better.

I have a daily treat of two figs and two dates. I can only eat naturally sweet food.

I also enjoy going to thrift stores. I'm not a very good shopper but I like doing a once around the store every few days even if I don't buy anything. I often don't find anything.

Today though I found a nice light weight blue jacket.😊

One of my happiest times of day is in the a.m. when I'm sitting on my sofa, listening to ambient music with one kitty on one side, the other on the other side and I'm working a puzzle, and a cup of tea, watching the sun rise. Precious moments I try never to fail to appreciate.
