If you like quiche, Costco carries 2 for $10. Both are different kinds and they are made with egg whites.
They keep well in the refig for at least a week.
Also one of the few places I can find short ribs of beef.

Their square bake-at-home pizzas are a great deal for 7.99. I've only ever bought the pepperoni, but DD's BF says his family buys the cheese and then customizes it with their own toppings.

I used to buy their salsa, but since I discovered Annie's, I won't be doing that anymore. If they carry Abuelita tortilla chips, those are the best. They're made in Virginia, so I don't know if they've gone national or not.

I buy butter there for holiday baking. Also cottaqe cheese and shredded 4-blend Mexican cheese. Kirkland-brand vanilla is pretty good, as is their olive oil. A big box of Earthbound lettuce is a good deal, too, as are the romaine hearts - something like 3.29 for 6.

What else? Mrs. T's pierogies, potstickers. They have a frozen spinach mozzarella pasta. Comes in a bag and I think it has pine nuts, too - pretty good, but I don't buy it that often. Oh, and mozzarella sticks.

They used to carry a soy ginger dressing called Rikki that was fabulous. Haven't seen it in any stores for about a year now. I wrote to them, too, but they never replied. If you see it, try it, you'll love it. Hummus - oh, and tzatiki dressing. The tzatiki is good with Stacy's Pita Chips (or make your own pita chips). Presidential-brand feta cheese and fresh mozzarella.

I usually buy Charmin toilet paper there, because the Kirkland rolls are individually wrapped at our stores. They sell movie tickets, too - I think it's 15 dollars for 2. They're usually good at whatever cinema chain is close by.

I don't think you'll be disappointed in anything, but if you are, they're good about returns.

A 4-pound pack of butter sells for $5-$7 and doesn't have water added. In addition to what's been said above, the big pail of mini cremé puffs or eclairs keeps a group of kids and adults happy for several snacks. The breads and pastries are pretty good.... and the pumpkin pie eliminates the need to bake one. When fruits are plentiful you can usually buy large quantities cheap IF you're into canning and freezing.

I love the giant chickenpot pie, but for 3 people it is alot. The stufffed tilapia or salmon is very good too. Kirkland coffee is from Starbucks, and the EVOO is good too, as is their mayo.

The bakery has nice rolls, bagattes, bagel, muffins and the price of a sheet cake is very good ifyou have a large gathering.

The croisant,package of twelve seem like a lot but I freeze the ones we don't eat the first day and they keep very well. I get most of our meat there. Paper towels,laundry soap, vitamins,canned tomatoes and tomato paste,printer paper,some books, some clothes,some poduce. Most of their prepared food is too salty for me but my husbans thinks it's pretty good. The starbuck's coffee is a really good buy if you grind your own. The best buy there would be the towels and sometimes the sheets. I like to get the Best Food Mayonaise because the jar has a good wide mouth and you don't get it all over your hand and it doesn't go bad. I think that is Hillman's any where else in the country. The real reason to go there in the winter is to get the compari tomatoes. They come in those clear platic containers and really taste like tomatoes

If you're looking for a very uptown cuisine do have lunch there. For a dollar fifty you can have a fantastic kosher hot dog and a soft drink of your choice in a gigantic cup. No kidding it is truly good and you'll love the casual ambience.

Mmmmm, Phillipine's dried mango. I can eat these until my teeth hurt, that's pretty quick too at 40-50 grams of sugar/serving if I recall correctly. Not safe to buy each visit but only a couple times a year.

I grilled bacon wrapped sirloins from there last night.
They were sooooo yummy.
I found them in the freezer section.

I would buy them again in a heart-beat.
Also those Mystic frozen pizzas are good in a pinch.
Gas is always a super deal... running about $2.54 gallon.
Here we do have to watch prices because some items are much cheaper at a grocery store. Milk ran $3.89 there and $3.29 at Walmart per gallon.

We use alot of Montreal Steak seasoning on the grill...I buy it at Costco, waaayyy less expensive, olive oil, chicken broth, canned tuna, canned Muir Glen diced tomatoes, cheeses such as feta, Parm Reggiano, goat cheese, Jarlsberg, etc. are about 1/2 the price of our Kroger. And of course, the meats, oh and the frozen raw shrimp, frozen ahi tuna steaks and canned crab meat (Phillip's).

Everything I have purchased at Costco is first rate at a great price. IMO, they do not sell any carp.

I love the lambchops at Costco. Steaks, chops. We buy our water there by the case too. I do a lot of xmas shopping there as well, always really neat gifts.

Now don't laugh at me but Costco has the best Tiramisu I've ever had in my life! It's in the freezer section. Totally scrumptious.

Thank you so much, I already have a huge grocery list for the first time that I go. I didn't realize that they were the largest retailer of choice meat. Our Costco had 9,000 new members before they even had their grand opening. During their Grand Opening you couldn't even get near the place, so I joined but didn't have time to really "shop". One thing to be aware of, if you see something you like buy it because it may not be there on the next trip. Usually not food but other things like toys or gardening supplies. I remember last Thanksgiving they had an anniversary play dough set that came in a tub, I figured I would get it the next time I came - nope sold out.
I like the Bruce Aidells apple chicken sausage and their bake shop is pretty good. One good thing is that you can taste a lot of the items before you buy.
Do check the prices, sometimes I can get better deals at the regular supermarket.

I agree about buying seasonal items when you see them, they move quickly. And about checking prices. Eggs, for one. I can get them cheaper at the local pack it yourself store. But since I'm at Costco anyway... The quantities sometimes keep me from purchasing. I went looking for brown sugar one day. The only package of brown sugar was 25 pounds! Books are a great bargain, though. I also get glasses and contacts for the kids and I at their optical center. SO much cheaper. New glasses, several months worth of disposable contacts and the eye exam for Daniel was $260 just recently.

The things I buy at Costco are not so much for the price or quantity, but that I can't get that item elsewhere.

The Lilydale skinless boneless chicken breasts are the same or a bit more than what we pay in the grocery store for skinless boneless breasts, but they are pristine and a good size for us. Not tiny, and not gigantic. I separate the pack and freeze in amounts we use.

The pork chops are nice and thick and always cook up nice, I separate and freeze those as well. I can get them cheaper but quality is more hit and miss. We have been happy with every steak we have bought there as well. Whole chickens are 2 or 3 (depending on size I think) for what we pay for 1 at the grocery store and look nicer. Same as the ground turkey.

I buy eggs there for baking but find the shells are always thin. I won't buy butter there anymore because the price is NOT better and twice I have gotten rancid butter. The sour cream, cottage cheese, and cream cheese is usually a good deal.

There are some 12 grain (or whole grain or something) focaccia triangles that are to die for! If only the package wasn't so big. They freeze okay, but it takes so long for us to eat an entire package. When we entertain or have family gatherings somebody always brings those and they are the first thing to go.

I have been happy with every veggie and fruit, and all things we have bought from the bakery area. We also get pre-cooked frozen bacon there.

I love Costco - my friends got me to start buying more there - it used to be we had a membership but rarely went. Their seasonal stuff is great but yes, purchase it when you see it. They have the best deal around here on ink cartridges - and have coupon that comes out in their booklet that if you buy two ink cartridges and a roll of US stamps you get $25 off. I'm buying eye glasses there for the first time and am amazed at how much cheaper they are. I find that most vitamins and toiletries are cheaper at Costco. We love their trail mix and bare naked mix. If you are a reader check out their book section. I also get our digital photos printed there - you can just send them online and they are generally ready that same day for pickup. Have fun, but plan to spend more than you think you will!

Their T-bone steaks are the best I've ever had. Steaks, chops, pork baby back ribs, tenderloins, chix, smoked salmon, tub of creamy hummus, eggplant dip, produce, eggs, cheeses (they have gourmet cheeses too), Splenda, oatmeal, butter (freeze it), cookies and muffins for the office, pistachio nuts, paper products, contact lenses and eye glasses, books, DVDs, office supplies, designer jeans (if they have your size grab them!), jewelry and watches, and on and on... and that doesn't count the goodies you can find on costco.com, LOL!!!

I'll add the large round chocolate cake. It's so yummy! Since I stopped making my own bagels, we've been buying them at Costco. They are one of the few places that carries lamb chops. I shouldn't admit this but I buy their large container of minced garlic.

I buy most of my poultry and meats at Costco. Their pork tenderloins are a real bargain. I buy Kirkland EVOO and balsamic. Their Vidalia Onion Vinaigrette Salad Dressing is the only bottled dressing I will eat.

I buy most of my cheeses there to include Cello brand parmigiano reggiano and Cabot Cheddar. I buy toiletries and vitamins there and would buy lots of other things if there were more than the two of us.

In the deli department their chicken salad is pretty good for a bought kind. Not nearly as good as homemade of course.

Two things I've bought there and didn't like - one was their Kirkland spiral sliced ham and the other was a boxed organic chicken broth that they seem to stock all the time now.

The Costco here in Toledo that just opened, let me walk through and look without being a member. When I did join, I paid $50, but they gave me a $10 gift certificate to use there and a tote full of goodies!

Kirkland Multi-vitimins and Glucosamine were highly rated by Consumer Reports.
I love the six pack of individually packaged 2 per-package boneless/skinless chicken breasts. The six packs are perforated so you can tear off a 2 pack. The packaging is so convenient, I don't have to repackage in order to freeze.

We're lowcarbers and make back the cost of membership in heavy cream alone. Not to mention the savings on gas, eyeglasses and contact lenses, and fresh flowers. There are a lot of food products we don't buy because of the packages are so big, but I hate to tell you how much I buy anyway and end up storing.

The food packages are quite large so I'm not sure how much we really save once we account for storage costs and waste. However, we like many of the products they carry including ricotta, cream cheese, butter, hard cheeses, mesclun (other fresh produce is good quality but packages are usually too large for us), smoked salmon (their own brand is quite good). They also sell a chilled "guacamole" that doesn't meet our tastes, but it's a great start for my own recipe, and much more reliable than the fresh avocados we get in Maryland.

We don't buy their fresh meat, but we've been happy with their fresh fish, although the large packages are a challenge. Occasionally, I'll succumb to the lure of their frozen vegetables or fish, but the large packages make them a questionable bargain.

In the pantry aisles: nuts, baking powder, some canned goods, canned pet food (they've got great prices on dry but the packages are enormous). We also buy their laundry and dishwasher detergent, and their good quality plasticware. It seems to me that we could do as well on eggs, brand name paper goods (Vanity Fair napkins and Charmin), and brand-name cleaning products, at least on sale, but buy them there for convenience.

We don't care for their any of the Kirkland coffees we've tried (but we also dislike Starbucks), and even for brands we like, three-pound cans don't do much for the quality of the unused portion. And when we tried Kirkland paper towels, they didn't compare to Brawny. Other than that, we've been pleased with their brand.

I didn't care for their papertowels either. Too big if you can believe that. I felt it was wasteful.

I agree that the paper towels are too large. I also can't bear how overpackaged a lot of items are (for example, the print cartridges. They are a very good price, but I've decided it's not worth it to me to save a few dollars if I have to throw out a piece of hard plastic measuring 10" x 15" just for a couple of cartridges; same goes for the toilet paper -- every roll is individually wrapped. Too much packaging). That said, I can make back my annual membership just on the savings on Equal, Foster Farms boneless skinless chicken breasts ($5.99 a pound at Safeway, $2.99 apound at Costco), and as someone else mentioned, books.

Not all Costco stores are the same. We have two Costco stores nearby, one in Salinas and one just outside Monterey. They do stock different items based on demographics and income levels, which means that the Monterey store carries a lot more wine, more variety in cheeses, etc. I've been frustrated by this more than once, looking for an item in the Salinas store, which is closer to home, that I know I've seen in the Monterey store.

Mango salsa - I can't find it anywhere else and it is great on fish. Also on fish tacos which I make with their frozen tilapia or cod.

Oooh I love the seasonal items. We buy clothes there for hubby alot..jeans, shirts and socks.
I bought the boys jammies and such when they were babies too..Best deal on Carter Sleepers around! Even down the street at the outlet Carter store.

But for food..I buy the soy sauce, pancake syrup, sugars, Real Lemon, sliced american cheese, the mexican blend grated cheese, Heat and serve sausage patties..
Oh yes pick up a rotissorie chicken, best price you can find, huge and great flavor. I like to pick the meat off while it's just warm, and freeze it for quick dishes later.

There is a ton of stuff we buy.
And because I always buy gas when I'm there, I know that the Costco is 33 miles from their station to my front door. LOL Funny though it takes going over 2 bridges and 45 minutes (on a good day one way) to make the trip. LOL
So I shop there about 1-2 times every 2-3 months.

I live in Martinsburg, WV. Just about 23 miles from the closest Costco which is in Winchester, VA. Well worth a fill-up when we go because gas is always 20 cents more here in WV. We can thank our state officials for that. Most of us here in the eastern panhandle go to VA for gas.

fairgold is right about the demographics. I'm in So. Cal so there is almost a Costco within 20 miles in every direction. Shopping at a Costco is a sickness! Wherever we are, if there is a Costco, we will stop to see what different items they carry. There isn't much we haven't bought. I stick by there meat though. The chain grocery stores can compete with price and especially quality. A new one is going up in Newbury Park (within 5 minutes). Everybody in town is waiting with bated breath. Not all Costco's have gas stations, hearing aid centers, eye docs, etc. This one is supposed to have it all....just patiently waiting!!! NOT

I don't have a membership but sometimes I go with my shopping buddy, who does. I bought their Kirkland Laundry Soap, powdered and it lasts me for months. Doesn't work any better or worse than anything else so I use laundry booster. Sure is affordable and I like not having to buy laundry soap all the time. Their 'muffins' are more like cupcakes on steroids but dang they are good. We like the Kirkland Columbian Coffee in the big can, lasts us a while and is tasty. Drew's Orange Sesame Dressing and Marinade is wonderful stuff. Books are usually a great deal, as are clothes. I like the panties and socks you get there. Big blocks of cheddar are a good deal, especially when there is a coupon available. A very fun place to shop for gifts. I bought my husband a nice box kite for only about $12 as a late Father's Day gift. A dangerous place to shop, haha. Way too much fun.

Their pork chops are the best, really thick and tender. I also get the seasoned pork roast and cut it in half. Cook one half and freeze the other. The Kirkland ham steaks, 2 in a package, are great. I only buy lamb there because they have the best prices and their steaks are good. The cooked chicken and ribs are yummy.

We buy their big blocks of cheese like Jarlsberg, Cabot's extra shartp cheddar, Tillamook Monterey Jack cheese Rosenborg blue cheese, fresh mozzarella and sticks, Parmaigiano Reggiano, large container of feta, and lots of others. Other dairy products are 2 pack milk, 1/2 & 1/2 in a half gallon, heavy cream in half gallon, 4 pack salt free butter (freeze 3 packs), dozen yogurts.

We buy the Starbucks Mocha Frappacino in the bottles by the case. And I love the brownie bites and bakery big boxes of cookies. And the sourdough bread and multi grain sandwich bread. Also canned tomatoes, veggies and jar sauce, PB, Jelly. And they have a great selection of fresh veggies and fruit.

Non food items: napkins, paper plates, TP, paper towels, blue shop towels, yellow micro fiber cloths, car oil, laundry soap, fabric softner sheets, dishwasher detergent, dish soap, liquid hand soap, personal hygiene products, cleaning products, ink cartridges, digital cameras and memory cards, TV, DVD player, video games, books, CDs, DVDs, Kirkland Multi-vitimins, Glucosamine, other pills and probably tons of other things I can't remember.

Lots of things come and go. They use to carry at mine Oregon Chai in a 3 pack then they switched to another brand which I don't like. That happens all the time. And seasonal items sell fast so pick it up when you see it. You can always return it if you change your mind. Speaking of seasonal items, that is where we buy our Christmas food baskets that we give as gifts. They have the best ones for THE best prices! They have the best deals on package flower bulbs.

When I go, usually once a week, I go up and down the isles because you never know what new item they are going to have got in that week. I always end up with more then what was on my list. They send out coupon books several times a year and you can get some great deals. I just saved over $20 using them.

And their gas station usually has the lowest prices. And the photo develop dept is the lowest too.

Each store is different. The one my DH goes to by work carries different items then the one by home. So he buys some things there that we like and I buy other things here. I don't know why they don't carry all the same items.

Know those little brownie bites that are soooo good? Here's a little extra something. Using a food marinating syringe, pump up to a teaspoon of Torano sugar-free raspberry syrup into the heart of that little brownie bite and let it sit for a while before serving.

Costco's meats are the BEST. And their prices are great. I buy their boneless leg of lamb, baby back ribs, porterhouse steaks, and ribeyes. Their wild coho salmon is wonderful. They offer extra large shrimp for $9.99/pound that is fantastic. The rotisserie chicken is the best value around - $4.99 for a VERY large chicken that is cooked to perfection. And if you can find their scallops, buy them - they are absolutely delicious!

I live alone, so it's not worth it for me to buy their produce - there is no way for me to use it all before it spoils - but the quality and value of their produce is superb. The Kirkland brand is very high quality and I use it as often as I can. The Kirkland washing detergent is as good as Tide and is much cheaper. Kirkland vitamins and ibuprofen are excellent and much cheaper than the advertised brands.

I buy the Executive membership which costs $100/year, but with that plan, they refund you a percentage of your purchases. I always get enough back to pay for my next years subscription. If you don't purchase that much, Costco will refund the extra amount over the cost of the regular membership.

I can repeat the rave about their meats. Since no one mentioned this specific meat, let me say that their flank steak was as good as any I've ever had - better than whole foods at half the price.

The Dubliner whiskey-soaked aged (chedder?) cheese is also fabulous. I bought several of their large blocks for a party - and the Dubliner was the one everyone raved about.

The have boxes of sliced apples - which aren't quite as good as fresh, but come surprisingly close. And it's so convenient - especially to give kids as a snack for school. I have found their fruit to be variable - had fabulous blueberries, so-so strawberries and relatively flavorless cherries (in the height of cherry season). I'm wonder if there are certain fruits that tend to be more consistent than others or whether it varies by each batch, each time.

I recently bought the Klipsch i-groove speaker dock system for ipods. The sound is wonderful - and Costco's price of $129 beats any price I could find elsewhere. Just a word of warning about prices - when I was looking for LCD tv's, I found that their prices were actually not better than I could find by bargaining with local stores or looking on the internet.

The quality and price for regular Alaskan salmon and tilapia and haddock are great.

A great thing about Costco is their liberal return policy. When you get home and realize that you don't need a 5-lb bag of sugar snap peas you can bring it back no questions asked.

I don't care for their rotisserie chicken. I wish I did because it's vastly cheaper than Boston Market, but I think it's oversized, underdone and not delicious enough.

I find breads and baked goods to be hit-or-miss as well, and for the same reason (the valuing of quantity over quality). We did once get some fantastic artisinal rosemary olive-oil soft breadsticks but never saw them again. As noted, this sort of things happens a lot, especially when you're buying from one of the temporary displays within the store.

I love the huge cans of refrigerated pasteurized crab. It takes crab dip to a new level.

Pineapples and avocados are wonderful and inexpensive. I love getting entire bags of oranges, lemons and limes and going home to make juice.

I've had surprisingly good luck with cosmetics - blister packs of 3 Neutrogena lipglosses, for instance. I bought 3 reed diffuser home fragrances for $24, a great deal as these can sell for $70 *apiece* in fancy stores.

I like Kirkland toilet paper better than any other brand I have tried - not too thick, not too thin.

The coupons that come in the mail every couple of months are great. They will do 2-for-1 on things like dishwasher tabs and Powerbars.

DVDs can be very well-priced, as can toys. And baby formula, and baby wipes.

Oh - men's dress shirts. They are of excellent quality and if I remember correctly, less than $20. They could sell for three times the price and still be a good deal.

I will second the poster who recommended the optical services. I think this is the future of routine medical care. I have steered several people to getting eye exams and eyeware at Costco and they always speak highly of the products and services - and how easy it is to get an appointment!

Big packs of jumbo frozen raw shrimp are a good deal.

Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes in the frozen section are good. Also the mini cream puffs someone else mentioned.

When a sponge gets grungy, I can toss it, go to my supply closet, and have a fresh one. I would definitely say that belonging to Costco has elevated my standard of living.

I get their eleven pound (I think) burlap bag of basmati rice. Rice is easy to store and its's a very cute bag. The two pound package of extra sharp Tillimoc cheddar is an excellant buy. I also get flourescent light bulbs and batteries there.

My biggest gripe is that every time I go the whole store is completely rearranged.

Oh, I buy way too much stuff at Costco! They have good deals on electronics, clothing, batteries, and books. I bought quite a few of the huge bags of potting soil this spring.

Food wise, I love their guacamole. I agree with graylegend; I don't care for their rotisserie chicken, either. They sometimes have an organic peanut butter that my children like. I've found they have much better prices on snack foods (like cheese-its, granola bars...) than my local grocery stores.

You DO need to check their prices carefully. Often times if toilet paper is on sale at Target, it is cheaper than Costco. Also, Costo will not accept coupons. Another thing that is almost always cheaper somewhere else (on sale) is soda (Pepsi).

Great buys for me: kitty litter (Fresh Step), Bush's Baked Beans in small cans, jarred artichockes (great for dip), vanilla, spices (they don't have all of them though), spaghetti sauce (they only sell Prego, wish it was Ragu), dried spaghetti. Their sheet cakes are a huge bargain and everyone raves about them.

I don't think their produce (strawberries etc...) are always a great deal. Also, I LOVE their ground beef -- awesome price and makes the best burgers you'll ever have. My complaint with their other meat is they slice their pork chops and steaks WAY TOOO THICK. And, they will not special cut a loin for you if you ask. What you see is what you get.

I love thier fresh meats. Also, I always purchase the romaine hearts and string beans. Their pizza is great....espcially if my son's friends are coming over, but you have to have a large oven as they are quite big and do not fit in a small oven.

Also, thier peach and mango salsa is the best!

I haven't read all the way through this post but I love my Costco. Excellent meat and seafood. Great frozen appetizers when I need some help in pulling together a big meal for family on holidays (cheating). Very good cheese. Nice selection of vegetables & fruits. The Rot. chicken is good along with the fresh bread and pies. Last year they had the best Apple Caramel Cheesecake and Apple Caramel Pie. I have not seen either of those this year. Products do change on a regular basis and yes Costco's are different depending on where you live. Good price on Olive Oil (and good quality). My list could go on and on. Oh my Costco also sells trees, plants, flowers, bushes, etc. come Spring time (very nice stuff) and the prices are incredible. People pull up with U-Hauls that they rent to landscape their entire yard.

I went yesterday (My Costco is some distance so I don't go frequently...thank goodness). I have been making mango smoothies for breakfast most mornings to take advantage of mango season. I bought a flat of mangoes, they put the mangoes that I have been getting to shame.

The use to carry Tropical brand Peaches and Cream frozen corn (off the cob); it's wonderful. I haven't found it in about 6 months so I am very disappointed as it made for a quick side dish. It's odd because they carry other Tropical brand frozen veggies.

I've tried the meat and it was great, the steak was pretty thick so we butterflied them. We tried the brownie bites and that was a huge mistake, they were awesome and I ate too many. I've been in there a few times and boy they sure do move things around. I'm anxious to go back, they didn't have the Montreal Steak seasoning (just hamburg and chicken). I also couldn't find the focaccia triangles either, are they in the bread section? It could be that our store doesn't carry those. We will have to try the chicken pot pie - I've never seen one so big! There was a lady giving out cheese samples, the cabot's white cheddar was great. I'm not sure if I'll buy the coffee, such a big back if we don't like it. It was really fun shopping with all these tips in my head - thanks!!

I love Costco... went today and bought a case of Yellow Tail Shiraz, a case of Gordon Biersch beer, a roll of stamps and a power washer.

Dixiedog..I just checked with a bakery employee of costco yesterday as a matter of fact..
He said he made a ton of Caramel Apple Pies and packaged 16 or so Pumpkin Cheesecakes...oooh and that they added pumpkin chocolate chip muffins to some of the multipacks..

So they are starting to put their seasonal bakery items back out..

For those that love the muffins..don't EVER look at the nutritional value..You may never eat one again!!!!!

I buy them already indvidually packaged for the Little League Concessin stands..this year they started putting the nutritional value on them...EEEEeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkk I knew they were bad..but WOAHHHHHHHh
