I like the existing wall color you already have.. I'd be tempted to leave it :)

Instead of making the long wall the "Wow" wall, instead I would make the accent walls the two shorter ones at each end. The Fireplace wall and the wall behind your kitchen table.

I like the window treatment you used behind the sofa.. in the rust color.
I'd do something similar flanking both sides of the fireplace.
Bring in the Celery color you like in the fabric. Look for a fabric with the Celery color in it from the Rug and the rust color in it to tie it in with your other curtains.

I'd remove the pedestal things that are on either side of the fireplace. They will distract from your main focal point Your decorated fireplace Mantel .

If you want to paint any of the walls the Celery color that is in the rug..I'd do both of the short walls. The fireplace wall and the wall behind the kitchen table. I'd leave both sides of the long walls alone.

Perhaps a Celery colored Throw tossed over the back? I see you have a green throw? possibly in the black chair.. maybe one that matches the exact color in the rug.
Also when choosing the green paint, make sure it is dark, rich enough to hold it's own against your rich mocha walls. But not too dark LOL
I love the color of the rectangle square in the carpet. The smaller rectangle shape. Not the green on the ottoman cubes, that is more of the sage, olivey green.
I really like that rich Celery in the rug. I'd just try to match it exactly and paint the short walls with it and call it a day
Maybe someone can do a mock up for you. I'd rather see the rich Celery than a red/rust on the walls. Just to keep it more airy, but yet rich looking!

Just noticed no fireplace, just the T.V.

A pair of comfie chairs on either side of the t.v.

Any way to get a flat screen wall mounted? Or a narrow t.v. cabinet bookcase thing to house a t.v. and some decorations.

Place the rug so that the couch is sitting on at least four inches to ground it. Take away the two tables in the corners and get a small round table for the kitchen side of the sofa. I only see one lamp in the room. Perhaps a standing lamp would look nice. I would trade the white window shades for a tortoise shell or bamboo shade to soften the contrast. The real problem is the tv and the components.If you can pick up an entertainment unit, it doesn't have to be huge, to house the electronics, that would be huge. On the wall where the Xmas tree is, I'd put a huge clock or metal piece of some sort or a long shelf with black and white photos standing on it. In the eating area add a large art piece and to the right of the sofa add some wall art. Move the wood table at the end of the couch where the tree is to sit beside the couch and put the lamp from the corner on it. Then put the three cubes on the wall where you had the table. If possible try and find a coffee table that is dark for some contrast to the sofa. You could find one on Craig's list. Add some variety and color to the room and it will look great. It's a lovely room.

I like the sofa and the rug.

First thing I'd do is place the TV (in an entertainment armoire) on the wall between the entry and the kitchen and then move the sofa to the "WOW" wall, facing the TV.

Then I'd find low, storage bookcases to act as a room divider between the dining area and the TV area. The top would be good for decor or buffet serving and the storage would be a spot for the baby's toys.

I think having your 2 largest pieces of furniture (table and sofa) facing in different directions makes for an interesting furniture arrangement.

I think you want to keep your sofa where it is so that it acts as a divider between the living and dining area? If not, try drawing the suggested room layouts, above, and maybe move things around to see how you like it.

You will get a much more pulled together look by buying a long TV console so you can house all the electronics within. It doesn't have to be a big unit, but it needs to be wide enough to hold everything.

And "yes" to drapery panels on each side of every window. Don't paint until you find the fabric you love and that fits in with your existing (just fine) colors in the rug and sofa.

hi misivala. You have a beautiful home. Let's see if I can get you liking the layout much better.... (I wrote this last night and before I hit send decided it was way to late and I had to get to bed.)
First I think I'd bring the sofa up a bit so it's front legs set on the rug. Great rug and sofa by the way. I'd also move the three storage cubes to the long wall where the tree is now and add a nice large work or art or better yet, since you have little ones, a gallery wall of family/baby photos. I know designers don't like family photos in a public area, but if you like it then it works. In my opinion it makes a house a home.
As for painting the walls, I love the color you have now but think a celery accent wall would look great too. What about just a large square/rectangle painted between the two windows on the long wall to accent the family gallery wall? I know this picture below is a terrible representation of what I'd written above, but I'm having to learn the Paint program all over again since I recently got Windows Seven installed. Hope it at least gives you an idea of what I was saying.

Thankyou all for the suggestions. I forgot to mention that we are buying a besta(from ikea) wallmount cabinet for above the tv to house the components....also the same besta in varying heights for the opposite wall on both sides of the window...My husband and I have a diff of opinion about the color though...he wants to go with the black-brown..I think blackbrown might be too dark and would like to go with a walnut or white.
