The Kitchen Table

My GP just called..

We were chatting and he said that if the tumour IS in the sinus cavity (which is a part of the circulatory system) then it might have "seeded" and started tumours elsewhere in my body. Of course, we have to hope that it ISN'T in the sinus cavity... it may very well not be. Didn't know about that complication.

Oh well, minor emotional setback. I'm not going to dwell on "potential" bad news. I'll wait until I know something.

This is for IOS6 so I have no clue if thar\t is Ipad 3 as I don't own apple anything but maybe the visuals will help you find it. I know on my new android phone when I first booted to set it up there was a screen to turn on location services or I could do it later form settings it said. My phone came with the GPS already installed and I think I had location services off so when I opened the GPS app it asked me about turning it on so I would think Ipad might be the same way and the GPS app is already installed but as I said I dont have apple anything. bulldinkie-I'm so sorry to hear this. One of my DH's cousins killed himself last year. Before that, I never knew anyone that had killed themselves. I too used to think it was a selfish act etc. Now that I knew him, I understand that he was not in his right mind anymore. He was so depressed he wasn't rational. He couldn't have been to leave behind his loving family and young DD. He always did for everyone else and never thought twice. I think about him nearly everyday and am sad that he thought that was the best/only way out. So sad that one family has so much tragedy. Depression can run in families, perhaps that is the case here?

Oh, the sink, the sink! I kept it (no other choice, if I wanted my kitchen done in the next 6 months!) I have the "blackhead" visible on the front. But the counter will cover the pimple on the lip. I'm just thinking of my sink as a teenager with a complexion problem, and kind of laughing about it at this point. I almost even changed where the counter would lie on the sink so that the pimple would show! Because I thought it would be kinda funny. The sink is shimmed up between and eighth and a quarter on one side, but it doesn't really show at all. Hard to believe, but true! I will offer this bit of Shaw's advice (I am truly, truly sink cursed). If you are ever positioning your sink on a cabinet, don't push it backwards really hard, causing it to slam into a screw head. Because when fireclay meets a screw head, the screw head will win. I'm still smiling (though no soapstone til january)....... :-D Francy

You need to get yourself to the ER now. The hospital may have a good dermatologist on staff. The doctor's inability to get you in is getting ridiculous. I can't believe the lack of triage where ever it is you go. They should have told you to come in and sit in the office if need be until someone could at least have a look to determine if you needed immediate treatment or not. Some dermatologist can't fit you in while he's probably treating some teenagers acne or writing a script to some middle aged woman for Retinine who's worried about her wrinkles. I'd be camped outside their door until they saw me. Go to the ER. Please.

I hope all goes well - and as you said in your other post -you might take next week off work. If you possibly can, I would do so and stay in the house. You absolutely do not want to catch a cold or anything that would prevent you from having the surgery. I am now on day 16 of the cold - I do not sleep well to begin with and of course the post-nasal drip starts big time during the night and I wake up coughing. I am allergic to anti-histamine and decongestant - heck, any cold/flu med - so nothing can help me. I do everything possible but no matter where you go people are coughing on you - the office, the subway, the stores - nothing like a cashier sneezing all over your credit card before giving it back to you. My husband had 3 eye surgeries about 1 1/2 years ago and if you had a cold you were toast - so I had him so full of antioxidants etc. it wasn't even funny. For some reason Cold F/X works for him - I don't know if it is a gimmick or not, but he got off a 20 hour plane ride from South Korea without a cold - first time ever - good thing because the third surgery was scheduled for 2 days after his return. Quite a few people who showed up for surgery were turned away because of major colds. I know this will be a very long week for you. I hope you do well on Wed. and during the surgery. It is the waiting that is the hard part - before and after surgery. And if your surgeon has to speak with your GP etc. before you get the results that won't help. Hopefully not. You shouldn't have to wait the whole weekend for some results.

I did end up getting the whole week off. I was off today for a previously scheduled day off, so my GP found me at home, and it turns out that yesterday was my last day. I told my GP that I wouldn't pressure him if he didn't think I should be off starting Monday, but he said it was more than a reasonable request and he was happy to approve it. I have a slight sore throat and my eyes feel funny, so I will be resting and relaxing a lot.

Now why on earth would your GP raise a spectre? Duh. Let's wait and see WHERE the tumor IS (and is not). Even IF it has invaded the sinuses, it is only a POSSIBILITY it has spread elsewhere. Sometimes doctors forget they are talking to the *patient*, not showing off their 'extensive medical knowlege' in conversation with another medical professional.
