OMG: You will not believe the call I just got from my fabricator!

Holy carp!

I called the fabricator to clarify an issue with the template yesterday: we need to cut off a piece of trim for the counter to slide under. The counter is 1.25" but they told me to cut 1 and 9/16th. So I called to ask why the extra quarter inch gap?

The guy said he'd call the templater to find out...

He returns my call:

EvilFabricator: You are such a troublemaker Francy!

Me: Me?? What do you mean? What did I do?

EvilFabricator: The boss overheard me calling about your template. He got so angry at the guy for messing it up, he fired him!

Me: What???? What?????

EvilFabricator: Yeah, he FIRED him b/c you complained about him. And he just had a baby in October. His wife isn't working now. They have no income, and he gets fired the week before Christmas. So I hope you have a really nice holiday!

Silence on the phone...

I'm thinking, What? I never complained about him. I just asked whether the number he gave me was correct. I never called the boss about him. But what is the boss going to say when I call about YOU, EvilFabricator. I feel all the blood draining from my face. This can't be happening to me!!

Finally I say: This is terrible! You cannot be serious about this!

EvilFabricator: Of course I'm not serious!

I followed with lots of reprimands about what a mean joke that was to play on me, and that I thought I deserved to have my counters installed this week after the hell he put me through.

Lordy, I can't wait til this is over. I'm not cut out for renovation!!!!

By the way, he DID make a mistake. It was supposed to be 1 and 5/16th!! Thank goodness we didn't cut an extra 1/4 inch off our upper cabinet "leg"! I think someone who makes a mistake like that ought to be fired.....

That is just plain mean! Obviously you can't get back at him until he has installed the granite (and it looks great)! LOL!

I have to tell you I was afraid to even read this thread - after all you have been through! I was just imagining all sorts of horrid things! Any chance you will get those counters before Christmas???

I'm always thinking of you - with our Shaw sinks!! Though mine wasn't wonky like yours and my blemish is on the backside. What ever happened with that btw????

Hello Max, I'm doing fine. When I recieved the two air layers, they were both doing great but within one or two weeks, one of the air layers started to drop all of its leaves and that air layer is now gone. When the air layer died, I peeled back the aluminum foil that wrapped the roots and it appeared as if all the roots were detached from the trunk of the tree as if someone perhaps unwrapped the tree for inspection and then accidentally squeezed the root ball too hard. The two air layers were treated exactly the same and I only have that one other one left. It is doing very well considering I have been keeping it indoors ever since I recieved it. All of its original leaves have fallen off and were replaced by approx the same number of new leaves. Once the weather in San Diego stabilizes, I will slowly acclimate it to the outdoors and then bring it back in again during the winter. Because this variety is so rare, I'm going to be extra careful with it. I recently contacted the USDA at Hilo again, where I got these air layers, and they said they will no longer ship air layers due to the difficulty in cleaning the roots but they will ship scions that an expert gardener may graft. My Kwa Luk air layer is still the same height but is slightly wider due to the new growth and the roots have completely filled the pot it is in and the roots are even starting to come out of the drainage holes. Hopefully the stronger light outside will help it gain some size this growing season.

Way to go, ANN! SLOW: When you decide to jump ship, you jus' le' me know, hear?? I'd drive six or seven hours for whatever you want to unload, I'm sure! I have my 8x10 "art Room" but thats just for a supply room!lol! I work in the dining room and living room! DH actually likes his 4 days of working 14hrs outta the house!ha! Then I try and clean up for a few days, but lately I've been so BAD! I've left stuff out as I am bugging him for moving near Cindy! to a rancher the same size but no land,(would loose 1/2acre) but has a sunroom that is 15x23!!!! DH is wanting to move to that lil town but that did not work out soo....I'm sooo bad, will I ever behave??!!!Closer to Cindy(5 min drive!!) AND a workshop, hey does it get any better???!!!!I'm sooo selfish! ha! BTW: I still am trying to get over the tittle of this post! I thought, OH NO! He(DH)is kicking her out for her mosaic addiction! (Too close to home!lol) Yup, it's an eye catcher of a post!!! heh heh!

I don't get calls from my own number, but sometimes I will get a call that has the same area code and the same first three numbers but then different last four numbers. I know not to pick up. When I was in college in the 1970s, I got an obscene phone call, which I found amusing. I asked the caller to be more specific, and he hung up and did not call back. This was way before caller ID.

Oh, the sink, the sink!

I kept it (no other choice, if I wanted my kitchen done in the next 6 months!)

I have the "blackhead" visible on the front. But the counter will cover the pimple on the lip. I'm just thinking of my sink as a teenager with a complexion problem, and kind of laughing about it at this point. I almost even changed where the counter would lie on the sink so that the pimple would show! Because I thought it would be kinda funny.

The sink is shimmed up between and eighth and a quarter on one side, but it doesn't really show at all. Hard to believe, but true!

I will offer this bit of Shaw's advice (I am truly, truly sink cursed). If you are ever positioning your sink on a cabinet, don't push it backwards really hard, causing it to slam into a screw head. Because when fireclay meets a screw head, the screw head will win.

I'm still smiling (though no soapstone til january).......

Ok here's how to get back at him (after your granite is installed). I've used this technique a couple of times and it always works well. You will need his home address though...

Take out an add in the newspaper garage sale section (get as fancy as you want with boarders etc so it can be seen) and say "Estate Sale, 5 families, Many Many antiques and baby items. Doors open at 7 am (x address) if we haven't opened the garage door yet, please just knock"

He will never tease anyone again :o) (the two people I've done this to have never attempted to practicle joke with me again).

OMG - IGLOOCHIC! Please don't make me pee in my pants! That is too cruelly hilarious for words! Oh, and remind me not to get on your bad side - LOL!

Francy - I can't wait to see the finished product. With all the drama about your sink AND sink cab, we'll have to throw a GW online party to celebrate your completion! I'm envying your soapstone (though I do love my granite).

I think I will be allowed to use my Shaw for the first time tomorrow - YIPPEE!

Okay, got to go take care of the vomiting 7 yo. Yeah for wintertime and all the bugs going around. UGH.
