Oh, how sad. It is sad that someone couldn't have helped this family. My heart is always heavy when I hear a Mother or father has passed and left behind children. I can't imagine how difficult it would be..

I'm not deciphering exactly what you said but for one family, it would be disastrous to have six fairly young people die in such a short time. Mind numbing.

I've been counting my blessings lately.

It is very sad, yes ... but I have to say, I do not understand people who chooose to commit suicide and have to do it with someone aware of what they're doing.

One of DH's sisters was married to a very troubled man, and after trying to work it out for years she finally called it quits. He called her and begged her to come back, she said no ... he shot himself while they were on the phone. That is just too selfishly wrong, to me. And what this man has done to his own son now is just as troubling. That poor boy is going to remember for the rest of his life, that he couldn't save his father.

Just too, too tragic.

It must be so troubling to have arrived at such an extremity that we can scarcely comprehend it.

I hope that the son will find knowledgeable and empathetic people to help him chart his way through this troubling time.

One of my DH's cousins killed himself last year. Before that, I never knew anyone that had killed themselves. I too used to think it was a selfish act etc. Now that I knew him, I understand that he was not in his right mind anymore. He was so depressed he wasn't rational. He couldn't have been to leave behind his loving family and young DD. He always did for everyone else and never thought twice. I think about him nearly everyday and am sad that he thought that was the best/only way out.

So sad that one family has so much tragedy. Depression can run in families, perhaps that is the case here?

That's sad, sadder that he called his son and left him wondering if he should have said something different that may have saved him.

If I'm ever diagnosed with a terminal disease that will leave me incapacitated, like ALS I would probably help myself die before I would be unable to care for myself. I've seen too much as a nurse. My kids know not to leave me hooked up to a ventilator. No peg tubes for me either. And if I'm 90 and they try and talk me into amputating a leg or some other major surgery they are going to have hell to pay.

I had a neighbor in CA that shot himself during a summer heat wave. He was in his 90s and wasn't found for several days.
