Is there anyone here who has an organized home office? [g]

Hi,

I am about to tackle a home office. Buying a new computer, already have a home wireless network, a printer that I am dissatisfied with that is not connected in with the wireless network, which is annoying. I want to add a copy machine, scanner to scan and add old photos to the computer and just basically keep the house running more smoothly. We have a lot of renovations and repairs facing us in the house and I want to get the office organized and working like a top before starting those.

Can anyone help? I am getting bogged down in decisions about which equipment I can purchase that will tie it all together, stay in my budget and not overlap each other. I am getting a new MacBook Pro soon, and will build from there.

Anyone already go through this process successfully?

I just purchased a new printer and am having it installed today. I needed a technician to clean my computer the other day and he offered to set up the printer for me. The best thing about the one I purchased (Lexmark)is that it is Wifi so it will print virtually anywhere in the home for your computer and any others in the house. It does everything you are needing as well as 2-sided printing. I don't have Mac and am not sure if my printer is compatable with it, though. The printer cost (on sale) $150.00 Canadian.

Since I moved, I now have the computer, filing cabinet, my books and stationery in the office. It's nice not to have to do "office" things in various areas of the house.

Hi, got an iMac, have an Epson 'all-in-one' printer that scans in its top bed, and the software it comes with plus the Appleworks and iPhoto that came with the Mac lets me play with photos and do lots more. I have a 4' wide, 6' tall cabinet with a pull out side 'return' that the printer's on (takes only 20% of that space) and tons of shelves, etc. for everything else.

I've been an IT guy since 89 and found out about the Net from a friend at UConn in 90. My first ISP was Escape which turned into Mindspring. I was still using a non-graphical brower (Lynx) when I first came across this site. Things were happening very quickly in those days! Either Painterart joined a lot earlier than he thinks or I joined a lot later than I think but my sense of things is that I was here ~92. I was still visiting rec.gardens.orchids quite a bit but gradually began to realize that I had more to contribute to GardenWeb. I tried the odd compact flourescent in the mid 90's and I had tubes for a while in 99/2000 but I didn't get my first real set of lights till 2001, three 160W Wonderlites. I knew well before that that if I had lights the winter die off's would end or at least lessen. That proved to be very much the case and I have written hundreds of thousands of words to that effect in the six intervening years. Rock on, everyone. H

Bob Walsh covers Mimi's egg-rooting method in his book on "How to grow plumeria-frangipani anytime anywhere", btw. Still miss the "Aloha Plumeria" forum though...and Mimi, too. I hope she's happy in her life, and stress-free. I'm currently rooting a bonus plumeria with an egg, and an Oahu Star cutting w/o one, -since I only had one egg available when potting them up. The bonus cutting is showing tip changes on it, already, but I can't consider this a fair test, as the Oahu Star cutting was considerably thicker than the mystery (gift) cutting was, when I rec'd them. To do a fair comparative test, I think I'd have to use 2 cuttings from the same source and root them the same way, (except for placing an egg under only one of them).

We started our build with Diyanni March 2021, framing good went well, drywall installation went well too We started seeing problems with our skill trades/sub contractors. Our color selection was wrong (inverted), when I attempted to ask them the response was, well you looked at the color sheet and there is nothing we can do about it. The estimated time to move in was so far off (we were told the house would be completed somewhere between the 2nd week to the end of September) so with that estimate, we sold our home and then paid the increase in price after signing the original contract agreement (YES, the price increase 15K after we begun construction), and we opted to stay in a rental for the month. The month turned into 2.5 months and we didn’t get the keys to the house until october 31. And even then we recieved a temporary permit. It was a complete and utter mess. The plumbers didn’t hook up our suppump and our basement took in water and the electrician( nice guy) has been the hardest to get a hold of to complete the extra’s we paid him for. So while new construction will have it’s share of problems, when you are dealing with sub contractors that you don’t get a chance to vett, there is little accountablity without your PM or the people who hired them keeping watch that the product is done correctly. So a word of caution for ANY builder who doesn’t do everything themselves with employees. I will add that we also had Jeff H on our project and while he was very busy, and he dropped the ball sometimes, he did try his best to recetify things. Was he the best ever, no…but he did try to have empathy and just flat out told us some of our issues were due to COVID, material shortage and just finding people who will work. I would hire Jeff again, but I would make sure to stay in constant communication as he doesn’t like buildertrend, which I use to document every issues in case of legal ramifications.

Mine are mostly small things -- like using a glass compote to hold cotton balls in the bathroom -- or a cut glass tumbler to hold q-tips. A hinged CD holder (similar to the tissue box above but a double version) used as a spot to store extra TP. I have a dresser that is a TV stand for our exercise room and the drawers have my gift wrap rolls and ribbons. A home office armoire that was going to be my craft and gift wrap station became a china cabinet when my dad moved and I suddenly acquired another set of china and crystal and I wasn't ready to make decisions on getting rid of anything. I have an old radio cabinet that I cleaned up and planned to put a new shelf and door in the top, but the stained glass panel hasn't been made. I'm thinking about painting it and redirecting it's new life for another room now. Another one I haven't done buy we've talked about a couple of times is to put a pull out bed in a window seat to add a guest bed in our gameroom. I think the inflating mattresses are going to keep that one from happening -- take less room and are probably cheaper and more comfortable now that we no longer have a sofa with the pullout mechanism to repurpose. If a new thread is started, we should try to link this one at the top so these ideas and photos aren't lost -- st least as long as we can.

I also have an Epson printer that I purchased and then realized that it doesn't feed paper when making copies. I replaced this printer because that particular function is very important to me.

Huh? It doesn't feed paper? Mine does, if very slowly. Have you checked with Epson re whether it's supposed to do it, and if so, return the machine for another one (it's how printers ar dealt with routinely).

I had checked with the store and it wasn't made to feed paper. I had just assumed it should. I ended up using it for awhile anyways but since I also didn't like having to buy all the different colors of ink each time, I ended up getting a different printer. This was 2 years ago. I just purchased a new printer because I can't find the power cords or the plastic trays from the printer I purchased to replace the Epson with that was moved here. I did come across a box today that had miscellaneous stuff and found some missing items but nothing from the printer. I'll probably find it during my next move, if I ever do find it. I will be asking the movers to pay for my new printer, though. They are more than welcome to come here and search for the missing parts.
