I have a Rubber Maid Thingey with a screw on top and a small flip opening that I use for dressing. I keep it in the refrig but also take it with me when I need "dressing to go".
I'll bet a baby food jar might work or perhaps a sippy cup with the snap on lid. Or perhaps one of those airline size liquor bottles might work....but you would need a funnel to fill them.

Yes, I have that problem, too. Most often I just take the dressing in a canning jar and then pour into the cruet/serving container after I get there. I've also done the container in a bag thing. I prefer using the jar, because I can take more dressing than will fit into the cruet and I can refill when necessary. And I can shake to my heart's content and not worry about seepage.

There should be a better way.

Check out Tupperware Midgets. They hold 2 oz. and are liquid-tight. I love these and use them not only for dressing, but toppings like nuts, seeds, bacon bits, etc.
I build my salad at work and it doesn't get soggy!

Another option...IF you have a fridge, is to buy a bottle of your favorite dressing, mark it well with your name and just store it at work!

There are also packets of dressing you can buy or the spritz bottles that might work for travel.

My sympathies, FWIW, in my experience baby food jars definitely leak and so do most sippy cups. BTDT!

Maybe go the Bento route? I so want to get into packing Bento's for our lunches.

Do you have a Container Store nearby? I use the Nalgene bottles from there, which are bpa free, along with the small screw top leak-proof jars (dips, butter, sour cream, a bit of soft cheese). They have a wider mouth, are easy to fill and clean, and made exclusively for traveling, which is what taking a lunch with you is. I love them!

I have some small Lock and Lock containers that I use for salad dressing, I've never had a leak. I also have a small nalgene bottle, but I'm less trusting of screw top bottles, they are made to stand upright and my lunch bag never does.

My husband uses small rubbermaid containers- they might be the midgets as they are really small. They never leak and he has used them for several years for Italian dressing for his daily lunch salad.

I use 1 gallon Mayo Plastic Jugs ( a screw on lid ) for many things, even Bird feeders.

If you ask in Deli's or local restaurants, you may pick up a few. They just throw them out.
Tell them to save you some.

I've used the same small glass cough syrup jar for about five years, without any leakage. I believe it was originally for Robitussin.

I love the container store stuff, but have used Tupperware Midgets for years! They work fine, even if they end up sideways in your lunch bag--but once you take the top off your salad dressing, there is a mess as the dressing kinda spreads so you have to wipe up the inside of the lid quickly. The dressing gets into the little inverted ridge on the snapping top, and it's not the neatest thing in the world to wipe up something kinda oily.

From what I've read about Lock and Lock, they're great too--QVC has them, and maybe Walmart or Target???

I reuse anything that comes in a glass container. After peeling the label off, it is handwashed, then rewashed in the dishwasher. I have a cabinet full of clean glass jars/bottles ready to be used.

Those glass bacon bits bottles are very useful for salad dressings and sauces.

I use a little yeast jar to mix up flour/water for thickening stuff, so I would think it'd work for salad dressing. It can be a little messy when you open it, but I've never had one leak while shaking (even when I do my best "Tom Cruise in Cocktail" impression). :)

To go a cheapie route, those half sized plastic bottles of sodas work great, as they are screw tops. There is enough room for shaking a vinaigrette as well and the opening is big enough to get a bottle brush inside to clean it if necessary.

rachelellen - I would agree with you - even though I have not had a need to do it. I kept waiting for someone to mention the ubiquitous "water" bottles. It would be environmentally wise to give them another purpose or use instead of just throwing them out.

Not very eco-friendly, but I send salad dressing in a sandwich baggie when I pack DH's lunch. Just pour the dressing into one corner of the bag and seal with a twist tie.
He just pierces the bag with his fork and tosses the baggie.

Sue: I read your Post too fast. I think a Gallon size is a little too big . LOL!!!

How about Snack size Ziploc bags and place it in a small
plastic jar or container.

I really need small and lightweight, as I already carry a lot of stuff, so I don't want to add any more weight than necessary. (Don't have a fridge, so leaving a bottle isn't an option.)

I'm working my way through the list of suggestions and will report back when I find something that works!
