It's a cute sink but it seems small. I haven't looked at sinks in a long time so I'm not up to date with their sizes, but I'd want the largest sink I could find for the space.

I don't think it looks Fisher Price dollhouse. I also think you should consider a white sink if your cabinets are white and the counter is honey wood. I'm not sure a black sink would work - might look like a black hole unless the countertop itself was dark.

No, not in Corian.

Honestly, I've seen those drainboard sinks (and drooled over them) in cast iron at salvage yards.

I don't know how cast iron sinks are refurbished, but your cost for a re-done, great quality sink would be a little leg-work and a lot less than $2K.

I guess I am a kitchen snob at heart. Friends don't let friends do Corian (sinks).

plastic = corian. Actually, "quartz" = plastic as well.

Are the other choices drop-in as well?

My mother has white corian. She hates it because of the staining. I have enough problem with my doesn't stain-for-other-people blanco silgranit, I wouldn't even consider white corian.

And it does seem overpriced.

We threw one of those away (similar corian thing) in the remodel. They're horrible. Always dirty, terrible sheen, and umm did I mention they're plastic? Yuck! You can get so much more sink for the same money. Have you considered a copper sink in a dark patina???? (Similar in patina to your ORB). They're gorgeous, and not plastic :)

And have you seen IKEA's farmhouse sink with integral drainboard? Not black, but also nowhere near $2,000.

I was able to Comet my old Corian sink to get most of the stains out, but the cracks were permanent...

However, I would never do a drop-in sink again. Is there a reason for the drop-in, other than that model of sink is a drop-in?

It's a double sink with drainboard. Both are a good size, maybe I linked to the wrong sink, it's the Chandler Corian Drainboard sink. If Corian isn't plastic, what the heck is it? Yes, the price is terrible but I found a site that has it for much less, though still expensive.
We are nervous to do a drop in with the wooden countertop. So that is limiting me.
I dont like the plastics either, but not so fond of stainless either and there will be none of it for appliances.
What kind of sinks do friends let friends get?!

MrsB: What are you nervous about with the undermount? It seems like it should be riskier but when you compare, both undermount and drop-in need for the wood edges to be extremely well-sealed and maintained, and both need a good seal between the sink and the wood. Personally, I think an undermount would be less risky because the water would be less likely to pool anywhere against the wood. With a really good sealing with pure tung oil and then something like Waterlox that you can maintain easily I think it would be fine.

I think the silgranite anthracite undermount with that wood would be stunning and with a good negative reveal you could have a large, strong strip of sealer around the hidden edge.

I think it's a lovely design and a nice sink. If you can deal with the staining issues on a solid white Corian - some people have had them for decades without trouble, so definitely YMMV - the only thing you need to decide is if the matte finish works for you.

Most people like glossy hard finishes. We don't, plus the sun comes directly into our kitchen 365 days a year, so the glare can be phenomenal, even with coated windows. We have a beige-toned Swanstone sink (similar finish to Corian) and it beats the old cast iron Kohler Executive Chef hands-down - quieter, and a LOT easier to clean.

This is your decision, so don't let anyone diss your personal taste. If it works for you, then it works, period.

I don't have friends who insult my taste in countertops or decor, nor would I insult theirs.

Elkay has a stainless steel sink w/ drainboard if it's an attached drainboard that you're looking for. Around $700 I think.

I think it's a very nice looking sink, pretty pricey though.
Since Corian has such a bad rep (I had no idea) and stainless is one of your options, then how about this sink?
I fell in love with it while perusing the site and it's now my #1 choice for our upcoming remodel.
I really like all of the available accessories as well.
In the end though, you should do what makes you happy.

Why not try a Blanco Silgranit sink for a lot less $$. The Silgranit gets rave reviews and comes in a variety of colors and sizes. I can't wait to install mine!

I wouldn't say anything negative about a friend's taste if she already had it installed in her kitchen, but when someone asks for an honest opinion, before she makes a purchase, then I give it. (And it wasn't really about the taste, just thinking she might not be happy with white corian in a hard-working sink.)

I've heard great things about Blanco silgranit, and it would probably have a similar look to the corian- and far less expensively.

I hate Corian on principle but I've been living with a PINK Corian sink for a little over a year and it WILL go when I remodel but it makes for a really nice sensible sink. You need to see it in person and feel it and see how it hits you. It does look good in the picture.

It's only slightly harder to see stains on pink than white. They scrub out with Comet. I let it get really bad between scrubbings (yes I do wipe it with dish soap between scrubbings). I drop heavy cast iron into it (and sometimes it rusts in there). I pour boiling water into it. I am not nice to it.

It maintains heat if you fill a basin with hot water. It's quiet. Things don't get broken in it if you are clumsy (which we are). Scratches buff out with a Scotchbrite. (And if you put your 20 lb rough cast iron pans on the middle divider to scrub them, you'll be getting scratches.)

Anyway, much as I wanted to hate my pink plastic sink, it's actually a great sink.

I do think it'd look better in a wood counter than stainless. But if it's really the look you want, only you can say. I think I'd keep looking for a cast iron sink with a drainboard, preferably apron front (the fewer drips the better!), but this one would probably be OK.

THEY STAIN! I have white corian in my master bath and CANNOT wait to redo it-it is always dirty-and a kitchen takes a beating much more then a sink used to wash faces and brush teeth does!
