Making pectin?

I wanted to try making Habenera Gold. Annie gave me a jar of her gold and it was really good. When I couldn't find liquid pectin I set out to make my own. I was not confident with the results and used some powdered pectin to get the batch done. Between my homemade pectin and the powdered stuff I have jelly this morning. Wonder now if I can have to much pectin?

So I want to try the homemade pectin again. An online recipe calls for boiling apples to get pectin and I have an endless supply of apples. Anyone done this that has advice?

I see they use a chemical in the liquid pectin to preserve it that turns into benzene when exposed to citric acid. Something really not right about benzene in food stuff! Doubt I'll be buying liquid pectin anytime soon.

I tried the harvest forum but no comments on the homemade pectin thing.
