Can you make savoury cones and fill them with other things? French fries would be a terrible indulgence, or chicken salad?.......

Another idea - can you rig up a stand to go in the oven - bake cup cake mix in the cones, then you can decorate them to look like ice creams after!

The same oven stand that islay mentions could be used to crisp them back up.

There is an ice cream store in St. Augustine that makes it's own ice cream and waffle cones. It's a major treat when we are up there!

That looks like a fun appliance, Annie.

A nearby ice cream shop makes their own waffle cones with chocolate and peanut butter flavored batters, in addition to the regular one.

Hard to see in this pic but they dip the edges of some of the cones in frosting and roll in multicolored sprinkles, chocolate jimmies or chopped peanuts.

They also make waffle cone bowls but I would think they'd turn into a soggy mess.

Arlene, homemade ice cream is a definite indulgence here. I use Alton Brown's recipe, so it has something like 8 egg yolks, plus cream and half and half. Not health food but sooooooo good...

Ruthanna, I was considering waffle bowls, but then I thought I'd have to put them inside a bowl to keep them from getting all messy.

I'm going to have to try crisping them back up in the oven, there's no way to make a bunch while people are waiting. AT least not one at a time!

Could you not bake them for a few minutes after you make a bunch to dry them out and hold overnight or longer?

I vote for a savory cone with a chicken ala king type filing.

My DIL said she was recently at a festival with my grandson where they served fresh fruit salad topped with some whipped cream in waffle cones. She said it was nice to be able to walk around and eat it one handed while having a hand free. Plus, it was delicious.

I could see making savory ones and filling with scrambled eggs, veggies, crumbled sausage, etc. for a nice utensil free breakfast.

Smaller sized ones could also be filled with egg or chicken salad, smoked salmon and cream cheese topped with dill. Lots of cool ways to use it! Annie, hubs loves a Fudgesicle ice cream from the kid's section in our Cuisinart ice cream maker booklet. Gag! It takes 2 pkg of instant chocolate pudding mix. How to fix? I googled how to make chocolate milk with cocoa (because I have some over the top good cocoa). Found the instructions of how to make chocolate milk (hey, no kids--I don't do this!). Anyway, with the addition of dutch cocoa, this ice cream should be more than acceptable. Just takes a bit more work for a lot more taste!! Have some beautiful raspberries that would taste good sprinkled on sorta-chocolate ice cream.

I don't know what options your toy gives you for content, size, and shaping, but I've seen cones similar to yours served on a dessert plate as if they were a cornucopia stuffed with whipped cream or pudding and having fresh raspberries spilling out, maybe some chocolate shavings or drizzle... stuff like that. They make good "eye candy"! :O)

What about a dehydrator to crisp them back up? Or keep them over night if you know you need alot for an event.

dcarch, are you planning to fill them with cotton candy? I saw that idea on one of the internet sites and waffled (get it? Waffled? Oh, never mind....) on whether the kids would like that or not.

I'm definitely going to have to try to crisp them back up in the oven or the dehydrator or somehow, I can't imagine making enough for a crowd while people were waiting, even though each one takes only a few minutes.
