Two blooms and a new toy!!

I actually had two wonderful blooms today, the last day of August. One is a 'cheat bloom' cause it was from my Maryott order in July, and you all know how that goes. So glad I let it bloom. this was a bogo. so part of it is in a pot, I have two scapes with lots of buds on Francois Verhaert. Also Extra Special is blooming, it seems to be a bud builder, I have had it quite some time and it has never done this before, in fact it didn't even bloom last summer, and I dug it about a month ago and moved it into a large pot, cause I wanted to put something else where it had been. Then, my new toy is a camera, that my son gave me for my birthday, it is a 'garden' time lapse camera, it takes a picture once every minute, or once every 5 minutes , and so on, up to once every 24 hours. It has a flash drive in it that holds up to 8,000 pictures, I can stake it in the ground and set it at any angle, It also has a more narrow view for single flowers, or a wide lens that captures quite a bit of the gardens. I also have set it in a window, and the results were stunning. Another day I set it in the window ledge viewing the inside, I was very curious to see what Sweetums and Scaggs my two inside cats did all day while I was at work, it was so funny, and I found out they sleep alot!!! I just take the flash drive out of the camera and insert it in my computer, and it will run the 'movie' and I can save any that I want to keep in my new 'movie' folder. My son put all the software in my computer. I am having So much fun, just a blast to see what happens in the yard or in my house when I am at work all day. Also really cool to set it on individual flowers and then watch them bloom. This is the new camera set up in front of Extra Special, and I did capture the 'opening'!!!I set it up the evening before that I thought it was going to open and ran the camera all night, so I wouldn't miss it. Oh, There is Bowie, clear to the left of the camera, watching me!!!! I have caught him on camera walking across the gardens during the day.

yes.. the parentage of the first is (Shinto EtchingsXShaka Zulu)x(West Coast BluesxDivine Magic) and the second is Duchess of Diamonds x Bella Sera I'm going to keep taking pictures of their blooms to compare with today's.. but hoping that they both do as well in the hot sunshine. Shelly

Good evidence that your DH likes you. Those are serious toys. Take the blender for instance: On another thread, people talk about using a hand stick blender for making soups or smoothies. Let's take a look at the reality: A hand blender has a low power (300w) motor running at less than 16,000 RPM with a 1.5 inch blade. A counter top blender has a 500w motor running at 20,000 RPM with a 2 inch blade. A Vitamix has a 1,800w motor running at 38,000 rpm with a 3.5 inch blade. What makes a blender effective is the maximum blade speed. The faster the blades rotate, the better the food gets chopped. It works out that: The hand blender can go up to 80 miles per hour no-load, with load probably 40 miles per hour. The typical counter top blender can go up to 119 mph n-load, with load probably about 60 mph. The Vitamix blender can get up to 350 mph, and maintain close to that speed under load because of the high power motor. You will find the Vitamix doing wonderful things for you, more than just soup and smoothies. How about making your own flour from grains? If your model does not come with an acoustic shield, you may want to figure out a way to cut down the noise. It can cause cumulative hearing damages, especially around children. Extra Special is a very pretty pink and form. I have been considering buying the camera from Amazon to watch the butterflys on the hyssop but I worry about how much space I need on hard drive. Can you choose what you want to save from the "movie?"

Thanks, and trust me I am having an absolutely blast with this camera!!! I even 'caught' my neighbor in my yard when I was not home!!!! This camera is a Brinno Gardenwatch cam you can just goggle Brinno and it will come up. I guess it was a Martha Stewart pick this past spring, and there is a video from her show on Brinno's website, which pretty much explains the camera. It is weather proof and it can run for months on end. It uses 4 AA batteries. I am still messing around with the movies that are saved on my computer, you can pause it at different frames, it has a clock and it runs down the time of each picture that is taken. The only thing that is a little bit troublesome is that when you set it up, at least when I set it up, I can't always be sure what the lens is capturing, so I am running very short trial runs, marking the spot and noted the angle of the camera, then looking at what was taken. I then can adjust it to what I want to see, and then let it run for the day. I have spots marked in my garden that are good view and angles to use. I don't know how much 'space' it takes up in the computer, but I already have at least 10 daylong movies in the movie file. You can empty the flash drive when you download the pictures to your computer. I can't wait till spring, cause I plan on leaving it set up for a few months in order to capture the spring bulbs coming up and blooming. Yes, my son is way cool!!!!!

Dang it,I couldn't see anything.All I got was red X on each one.sure sounds like a dandy camera to have.What a great Birthday present, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY,when ever it was.

Your gardenbeds still look so wonderful. Mine are just so end of summer raggedy. And that camera and the daylily you captured are just so nifty. You son really did a great job picking out that gift for you. Be sure and post some pictures for us to see. I love seeing your garden and this is just such a great idea :-))

Geez!!!! guess I need to put a disclaimer up now!!! That last shot of my beds was from the end of JUNE. Sorry , if anyone thought that was a current pic. I was just organizing my photos and felt a bit of "sadness" and had to post that one just for old times sake!! Sorry Jean, if you couldn't see my pics, I didn't resize them. I was in such a hurry to post !!!! So here is the camera again in a resized pic Cindy

I just saw on the Brinno site that they have a download/firmware low light filming for night recording. Have you used that yet?
I am getting this as a B-Day present from hubby so wanted to find out if it actually works for night recording.

Julia, I did not know about that!! I will check it out. I filmed one of the last daylily blooms that I had, and it was a nocturnal opener, so the playback showed a very sudden opening, which was cool to watch also. (The camera does not film when it is dark, in order to save the battery. ) I was also able to film an opening on Francois Verhaert, but it wasn't centered. I'm learning. thanks for letting me know about this. Next heavy snow we get, I'm going to set the camera on the windowsill to record the snow accumulation. I'm still having lots of fun with it.
