Michelle - the pictures are too small to PS. Can you make them bigger? I don't know how to PS, but just thought you'd have better luck getting it done if the pictures were bigger.

You have a lovely home and congratulations on your remodeling expansion! (And, congrats on your little ones)

IMHO, I wouldn't put a black roof on a house due to the sun even though it would look nice. I'm too energy-minded!

Hardie lap siding with 4" exposure would work. It comes in a lot of colors or you can get it to paint. 50 year warranty.

I agree that you need larger photos to photoshop. Can you get a bit closer to the house?

Actually, if you click her photo, it comes up really large. I would love to see what one of the other Senior PS'ers could do here. If not, I'll take a stab at it later today. You would think I would be getting really good at it by now but I still struggle with making things look nice. I love to paint rooms though...LOL

Well I tried..sigh! I had a hard time getting the paint colors to look good for some reason. I think it's the lighting or something. The shutters are in the shadows and they refuse to go darker than gray. Here's a couple quick looks:

What area are you in? A black roof may be good in the in the winter, but in the summer your cooling costs are going to be sky high, black absorbs heat like crazy. While it may have the look you're going for - you're only going to see the roof coming and going - you'll be inside the house a far greater amount of time. I like the black shutters - our neighbors home has beige paint and black shutters with a lighter brown roof and it looks fine.

We are in NJ...I choose the black roof, beige siding and black stutters because I like a very simple classic style. But the energy issue is a great point. If any one has any color suggestions I would love to hear them.

I like the Hardie lap siding but it is a little pricey and we are not going to be saying here for more than a few more years. (the addition will make our house still only 1600 sq ft).

Here's one with a dark brown roof. The shutters are still a very dark, almost black but a dark brown would look good too. I couldn't get them to show up brown.

What part of NJ are you in? At our new place, they've been using a soft green siding with darker sage shutters that look really good. If there are any new home developments by you, doing a drive by will give you inspiration.

I also love the gray with a partial rock front, then you can do the black shutters with it and a darker roof.

While the colors probably aren't available any more, we have a bluish gray siding with the blue shutters and lighter roof, seen below.
