Saturday night was the only night we consistently had the same dinner and we did for years!

Every Saturday night my Mom would make spaghetti. We would eat it siting on the living room floor, eating off the coffee table, (newspapers and then a table cloth over the carpet) watching Tarzan.

It was so special! Not just the spaghetti but eating in the living room watching TV!!!!

I don't remember when I was really young but from about the age of 12 or 13 every Sunday we had roast chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, and some type of fresh fruit (lived in CA). Dessert was always a pie of some sort. My parents were of the "Chicken in Every Pot" generation & my Dad expressed pride every week that we had a chicken. It was always a "production" meal. I suspect there were many years earlier in their marriage when there was no weekly chicken. My oldest sister was born in '37 but I didn't come along until the '50s and by that time Dad was well into upper middle class yet that chicken phrase stayed with him for life.

Every Sunday was soup day. Mom alternated - beef soup and chicken soup. She was the absolute best cook out of all my friends' moms - everyone always wanted to eat at my house.

Holidays were the only time we always had the same thing. Always.

Easter-ham, scalloped potatoes, asparagus, lemon meringue pie

4th of July- Grilled something ( my parents practically never grilled so grilling was a Big event), blueberry muffins, corn on the cob, macaroni salad w/tiny shrimp

Dad's birthday- boiled shrimp with 2 dipping sauces, baked potatoes, salad, Angel Food cake, a bunch of vegetables

Thanksgiving- what do you think?

Christmas Eve- lasagne, salad, garlic bread
Christmas Morning- A dozen assorted Dunkin Donuts ( this was probably the most special thing out of the whole year since it was store bought prepared food)

The most important day of the year - Super Bowl Sunday- fun appetizers and submarine sandwiches.

Not a day, but when my dad would go out of town on business, Mom would let us each get a frozen TV dinner at the store: I always got the Mexican and both my little sisters got the fried chicken dinner. And Mom would get a night off from cooking! This did not happen often, so we all thought it was pretty special.

We had spaghetti, salad and garlic bread regularly (Boston-Irish raised in Italian neighborhood...she made killer meat sauce), but not sure if it was on a certain day. Most things I remember by event, not day of week. We got to choose our birthday dinner (breaded pork chops, applesauce, mashed potatoes and creamed corn for me), we always took fried chicken and potato salad to family picnics, The Stuffing on TDay, ham on Easter, and corned beef and cabbage on St. Paddy's.

My dad was a barber, and Sunday and Monday were his days off. On Mondays a fish monger would travel through our neighborhood selling his catch. He had a refrigerated truck similar to an ice cream truck. So every Monday was fish night.

Many times my dad would purchase extra to cook a fish stew for his lunches. Every Monday he'd make some sort of soup or stew, fill jars, and keep them in the refrigerator all week long. He'd take one jar each day to heat up at his barbershop for lunch. He made bean soups, spaghetti, and fish/calamari stew.

The calamari stunk horribly. I'd close the kitchen doors and my bedroom door and open my windows. But to no avail. The memories of the stewing squid kept me from eating calamari until I was in my 40s.

Nothing terribly unique, but lots of "regulars." Thomas' English Muffins or English Muffin bread for breakfast; doughnuts or bear claws for weekend breakfasts; peanut butter and mayo (!!), bologna, liverwurst, or tuna fish sandwiches for lunch; pork chops, brussel sprouts, white rolls, mashed potatoes for many dinners. Chicken (typically creamed chicken over noodles or rice) for Sunday dinners. Pot roast on occasion; pizza nights; and (my favorite!) German oven pancakes dusted with powdered sugar for dinner every so often. Luscious pork roasts for holiday meals. Homemade cookies and brownies always around!

As a family, no. My dad ate his bacon, eggs, toast and coffee for breakfast (for that matter, lunch and supper too) whenever he could and he usually would leave before us kids would arise so he had his favorite meal whenever he could to start the day.

Also goes to show what a farce "high cholesterol" paranoia is. His whole family had the "killer" high cholesterol and he lived to be 93, which was quite normal for his family. 90-95 yo on most of them.
