Ta -Daaaah! Homemade Ice Cream (pictures) !

Here are first photos of black raspberry ice cream, and cinnamon ice cream. Yum! The cinnamon ice cream uses a custard base, and I thought it was a tiny bit too eggy on my tongue. Maybe I'll use 1 egg instead of two next time, but it IS delish!

As for the black raspberry ice cream, I'm still working on the idea of a black raspberry swirl going through it, or maybe I'll make vanilla bean ice cream and swirl in the black raspberry ice cream.

Gosh, experimenting is fun, aside from the "roll me out the door" part because we've eaten so much of it! LOL !

Tis isn't a traditional ice cream cake, but I can absolutely vouch for it being delish! Of course, you could sub real whipped cream for the cool whip, dulce de leche for the caramel sauce, ganache for the chocolate syrup, etc... but it is pretty darn good the way it is written! I've made it both with and whout the peanuts - I prefer without, DH prefers with, so it is a toss up! Ice Cream Sandwich Cake 1 foil lasagna pan - the deep kind 2 boxes of ice cream sandwiches - usually 12 in a box (store brand works just fine) and you'll have a few leftover to stash back in the freezer. 1 12 oz. carton Cool Whip, thawed 1 jar each of Hot Fudge and Caramel ice cream topping 3/4 cup salted peanuts Cut one ice cream sandwich in half. Place one whole and one half sandwich along the short side of the ungreased pan. Arrange more sandwiches in the opposite direction in the pan; cut to fit as needed. Spread half the Cool Whip on these. Spoon or pour Caramel topping (I use about 1/2 the jar) over the Cool Whip. Sprinkle with half the peanuts. Repeat layers with more ice cream sandwiches, Cool Whip, Hot Fudge topping (nuke 15 seconds for easier consistency) and the rest of the peanuts. Cover tightly with foil and freeze. Remove from freezer 15 minutes before serving.

3 ingredient ice cream - anyone tried orange???

I made orange ice cream on Wednesday, but didn't use the 3-ingredient recipe. Finally took a picture of it so I could post on this thread. I don't have the Ben & Jerry's book, but found this (recipe below) on-line and it referenced the Ben & Jerry's book. It's very easy to make, but a bit different from the recipe Linda posted. I added the mint for a little bit of color. The three volunteer guinea pigs who tasted it said it reminded them of the Creamsicles/Dreamsicles of their youth. Apparently, the Creamsicle & Dreamsicle both have a sherbet shell but the Creamsicle has ice cream in the center, and the Dreamsicle has ice milk in the center. Orange Cream Dream Ice Cream from Ben & JerryÂs Ingredients: â¨ 1/3 cup Orange juice concentrate; thawed â¨ 2 teaspoons Vanilla â¨ 2 cups heavy cream or whipping cream â¨ 3/4 cup Sugar â¨ 2/3 cup Half and half (I added 2 T vodka to keep it from getting icy) Directions: Pour the cream into a mixing bowl. Whisk in the sugar, a little at a time, then continue whisking until completely blended, about 1 minute more. Pour the half and half and whisk to blend. Add the juice concentrate and vanilla and blend. I added the vodka at this step. Transfer the mixture to an ice cream maker and freeze following the manufacturer's instructions. Makes about 1 qt.

I haven't seen a Good Humor truck in ages. I'd guess there are several reasons. One being that we now live in the era of "Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid" that keeps kids indoors lest the boogie man get 'em. (There are no more pedophiles now than ever, IMO.) Gas prices are probably another reason. And...all the mothers are at work during daylight hours when the truck would circulate through a neighborhood. The last Good Humor truck I recall seeing regularly was parked at an intersection between two forest preserves west of Winnetka (Illinois). HIkers and bikers would stop for an ice cream. marita -- Oh, ick, the wooden paddle! Kids who brought their lunches could buy a carton of milk and one of those cups at my grammar school. (Back when mothers were home all day, and most kids went home for lunch.)

The almond flour shortbread should be fine with the ice cream and freezing. It's the shortbread made from gluten free grain that might taste like hair, but there are some good recipes for GF flour pastry crust with egg, which while, they're miserable to work with, also taste good. The almond could get soggy if frozen long term, but you're talking about serving it this week, right? It sounds beautiful and special. Do you have a container (turn upside down so the top is the platter and the dish is the cover) or pie or cake keeper that would fit both the torte and the freezer? If ventilated, cover the outside with plastic wrap. The more air tight you can keep it, without messing it up, the better off the whipped cream will be. The evaporator of the freezer can make it go gummy. Again, it might not be in there long enough to worry about. Colleen, that's so interesting about the ice cream "cakes" there not having any cake! Since at least the 1950's in the USA, cake and ice cream has been the must have fare at children's birthday parties. I'm not sure if it was Baskin-Robbins (31 Flavors) who made the first ice cream cakes with cake and ice cream as different layers in a birthday cake, but they're surely one of the first. It was a big deal when I was young because most birthday cakes were homemade and most ice cream came in a carton from the grocery store. A Baskin-Robbins ice cream cake was Big Time. I think mom's cake and prepacked ice cream probably tastes better. Those ice cream cakes had crumb issues. But you got a lot more ice cream relative to cake with them, and in Southern California (where it's often hot) that's a good thing.

Looks fantastic! From your other post I know you used an ice cream canister but was that part of an ice cream maker?

*We went to the boardwalk at the beach today with about 10 ice cream shops. 3 YO DGS wanted superman ice cream, it wasn't bad. Blue-yellow-red mixture.

Glad the photos are enticing! Thanks for all the comments and compliments! This is the first time I've made ice cream in about 6 years! What was I thinking? Why did I wait so long! Oh yeah, now I remember--calories! Lots and lots of calories!

The ice cream canister is part of my little Rival electric ice cream maker--it looks like stainless steel on the inside, white high impact plastic on the outside, and if you shake it when its room temp, it sounds slushy--when it freezes, it's solid!

I freeze the canister overnight, and then the motor sits on top of the canister. The motor part is connected to the stirring thingy, plug it in, turn it on, pour in the chilled ice cream base thru the little access hole on the plastic top (this is connected to part of the motor and even though it comes apart, I don't pull it apart unless I need to wash the plastic part).

About 20 minutes later, ya gots yerself a creamy quart of cool yummy goodness!

Cathy, Bud and Makayla both got Superman Ice Cream at House of Flavors in Ludington a couple of weeks ago. A place that makes their own ice cream, on site, and has about 60 flavors and what do they get? Superman. LOL

Sooz, that black raspberry looks really good, I'd like some of that, I think. I like the "fruity" stuff best, but Elery's favorite is butter pecan.
