A wonderful visit with a CF friend!

We had the pleasure of Stacy and her family joining us for lunch today. Her son and my older guy have been texting friends and FB friends for a while too and it was great to meet everyone in person. Stacy brought a wonderful surcie with lots of tasty treats....

From L to R, Cranberry Daiqueri rimming sugar, Orange Flower Water, Taralinni (little biscuits) and a package of fresh mozzarella that is made daily by a specialty store. I feel Pizza Margharita in our future!

Stacy is as lovely in person as she is on the forum and we laughed and talked for hours. Her poor DH could barely get a word in edgewise, though when we did let him participate in the conversation he is absolutely charming. I must admit, we didn't see much of the boys, they were off and running like the "old" friends that they are and they ahd a ball too. Sammy (the dog) was a very polite guest also, and only got worried when her boy was out of site or when a cat went through our yard.

We all wished the visit could have been longer, and hopefully next time it will be, but it was fantastic even for a few hours. Stacy took lots more photos than I did, so I hope she posts them when she gets home. I love this forum and all of you for making old/new friendships like this possible!

Isn't it great fun to meet our "imaginary friends" in person? I love it.

Good looking treats you have there Alex. Too cool y'all finally had the chance to meet in person. Also that the boys got to meet each other. I remember y'all mentioning them chatting back and forth on the net over the last couple of years.

I'm waiting for pics and more details too! Lunch....afternoon cocktail...cold beer...wine??

Love to watch dogs play together...just one of the nicest pleasures of life. Don't you just feel happy for them that they are making friends...lol. What a wonderful place for a dog to live. So lucky! Gardenbug, what do you do about ticks? Do you have to check them after being in the long grass, or do they have collars that take care of it? pm2

lol....What happened to this post? It didn't look like that when I previewed it. Janice,I did watch for a few. He was moving so slow though that I finally walked away. I also thought that the emergence was a night time thing but I guess this little guy needed to be "flipped" as my mom used to say about babies that got their days and nights mixed up.....lol You are more than welcome to save any of my pics. Annie, Merle can drive anything anywhere! He once told someone that I drive the motor home better than he does because I'm afraid of it and he isn't! But he hates my driving, so he gets to do it all. Most of the scratches cant even be seen. He got it again on the way home last Sunday in WV. Coming to an intersection, he saw the trees that had been very recently trimmed, but thought he was over far enough. Got the edge of the windshield besides the side. I haven't thought about it to look at it, but I don't think it was too bad. That's what he gets for putting his seat belt on after he's on the road, instead of before! (He hates seat belts) He even takes it thru the parking lot at Sonic's!!!! Places I think are way to small for it, he has no problem with. You sure did hit some great places to shop and seeing friends is alway great. Tami

Cathy, we were thinking about you, and agreed that next time we'll try to plan far enough in advance to have you come along, we missed you. Lars, when you do come to Michigan, we'll definitely have to have a get together, either here or in Chicago or SOMEWHERE, we can't let you come this far and not meet everyone! writersblock, the crust is a mixture of a one pound bag offrozen hash brown potatoes, one egg and salt and pepper. I press it into a buttered springform pan, mine is a 9 inch, and then add the filling and bake. My oldest daughter is celiac, so I'm getting better at gluten free cooking, even for other people, LOL. stir_fryi, that's my Grandma's recipe and the trick is to not overbake or they get crisp, like gingersnaps instead of staying chewy. The recipe was been very popular here over the last few years, then kind of dwindled away. Here it is, my favorite cookie since I was a child. Chewy Molasses Cookies (Annie CF) 1 1/2 cups of shortening (I use half and half with butter, but all butter makes them too crispy for my taste) 1 cups granulated sugar 1 cup dark brown sugar 2 eggs 3/4 cup of dark molasses 4 1/2 cups flour 1 teaspoon salt 4 teaspoons baking soda 2 teaspoons cinnamon 2 teaspoons ginger 1 teaspoon ground cloves Chopped crystalized ginger, optional, to taste. I used about half a cup, finely chopped and wish I'd have used more but I love ginger Coarse sugar or turbinado sugar for rolling Cream the shortening and sugars. Add the molasses and eggs and mix until well blended. Sift the flour (yeah right, I don't, LOL) and measure 4 1/2 cups into a separate bowl. Add the spices, salt, and baking soda and whisk to combine. Turn the mixer to low or stir, and add the flour slowly until well mixed. Stir in the chopped ginger and chill the dough for at least an hour. After the dough has chilled for an hour, roll tablespoonfuls of the dough into balls and roll the balls in the coarse sugar to completely coat. Place the dough balls about an inch apart on a greased or parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes in a 350 degree oven. The cookies will puff up and crack. When the cookies are done the cracks should still look a little wet, but the outside should look dry. They'll "fall" a little as they cool, let them sit a couple of minutes on the sheet before you try to move them to cooling racks. Peppi, we love having Emma and you here, and your Dad too. All I have to do is find a "babysitter" for the dogs, the cows, the horses and the chickens and we'll be right there! (grin) And, as Peppi mentioned, we had beef stew the first night. Maybe not special company food, but something that could sit in the oven and give me some time to visit instead of "hands on". I did use a Porterhouse, a Sirloin and two Rib steaks, so it was kind of special... Annie

LOL - my beautiful gift bag - can you tell I was makeup shopping?

We had such a wonderful visit - it was way too short and I know you all will NOT believe that - especially considering that it was Alexa and ME involved - there was NO alcohol. none. zip. nada. OK, pick yourselves up off the floor...we still had a 6 hr drive ahead of us, so Scott definitely couldn't and we did arrive at 10:30 AM...we considered bloody mary's but the visit was so short, we never got to them. :-)

First Alexa gave me a wonderful basket filled with some of her home canned goodies! I got some of the gingered holiday chutney! YEA! Also some yummy looking apricot chutney, and some pickled asparagus! I appreciate these so much because I know what it takes to can - and I also am skeptical as to whether anything I have done this year is going to be edible - LOL!

also in my basket were some green bean crisps that she got at the local farmer's market - these things are addictive. We can't figure out how they make them. They're crunchy but light green beans. (Sammy had one in the car and she likes them too.)

Also some beautiful little wooden serving dishes - Alexa knows that sometimes my "entertaining" involves cocktails and assorted nuts - LOL.

For lunch she made bbq'd pork sandwiches and following Alexa's lead, we put our coleslaw right on the sandwich - mmmm!

We also had a yummy salad with lots of veggies and fresh cheese

She had also made some great tortilla roll ups - we loved the red ones which had jalapenos in them.

Alexa's boys are adorable and friendly - and Scott and I both found Alexa to be charming, intelligent, funny, interesting, and a wonderful hostess. She was able to do all of this without having a car to get around - with her DH's vehicle issues this week! We all were so at ease together - we plan to get together again when we had down that way. I don't think the boys will let us forget it, either - LOL.

Sorry it took me so long - we were on the road til almost 8 last night...long day but very fun. And I forgot to say that she lives in a beautiful beautiful area...

OH! I FORGOT - she made the most incredible cake from bon appetit. Was it cinnamon mocha bundt,Alexa? Ooooh boy was it good - and it had a wonderful chocolate glaze on the top. Scott inhaled it - LOL. And I didn't take a pic. :-(

Sally FB friends is Facebook friends. :-)

Will checked the tally on his phone and discovered on the way home that since they started, the two of them have sent over 800 texts back and forth!!!!!!

Aren't those Green Beans interesting? I have yet to figure out how they are made, but they are one of my favorites :-)

Oh, I never would have guessed that.

I'd like to learn more about those green bean crisps, too. Maybe there's a recipe on line somewhere.

Thanks for reporting back and the pics Stacy! Man, Will is almost as tall as you now. Good to see Sammy too.

Alexa, love BBQ Pork with a some slaw on top. Good looking lunch for sure! Those boys sure have grown since MM! I'm curious about those beans too.

Glad y'all had the chance to get together and thanks for sharing it all here.

You two look like you could be sisters.

I met Talley Sue this summer; I was in NYC, and she was kind enough to give me a really interesting tour of her really interesting workplace (I'll let her reveal it if she wants).

And I met May's (Lowspark) son, too, at a summer camp where we were working for 2 weeks this summer. Nice boy, and very smart, too. Actually, I've met him before -- he and my daughter have known each other at camp for years -- but I never knew the connection. I wonder how often that happens, that we've met each other, or each other's family members, and never knew?

David, I immediately noticed that Will is nearly as tall as his mother, wow that boy has grown. And I love that hair on Alexa's boy too, it reminds me of the guys back when I was a "hippy" in the late 60s/early 70s, LOL.

Cake? Cinnamon? Chocolate? Sounds perfect to me, I wouldn't have taken a picture either, I'd have been too busy eating it!

It looks like a great time.
