Is the TV wall even with the fireplace, as shown in your sketch? This photo from the previous post makes it look set back a couple feet.

Oops, never mind. The TV wall is even with the wall behind the fireplace.

Looking at the floor plan, I have one question first - does anyone plan to watch tv in that space except the person sitting in seat #12? Every other seat that I can see is facing some other direction, and certainly the couch is too far from the tv to see it well. So, how much tv watching will be done, and how many people need to see the TV, and on which pieces of furniture will they most often sit?

Actually, when I had the couch in there (the position on the drawing), you could see the TV very well. Unfortunately my dh likes to have the TV on a lot (he said he likes the "noise" when he comes in the room). I also have a set of speaker set up over that couch position so the sounds is good, too.

Hi Robbi Glad you liked the paint color pics.

As far as the furniture arrangement goes..it's a tough one. My only suggestion would be the same as another poster and that is place the wingbacks in front of the fp and a sofa or sectional where the wingbacks are now.

Mostly I am replying to bump you so others will see your post and may have more ideas.

OK, dh liked the idea of putting the recliners in front of the fireplace, so we tried it this morning. We then measured for a sectional to go where the light brown chair and ottoman now sits. The sofa table it there temporarily, so ignore where it's sitting, too. What do you think?

You are probably going to HATE this idea!! But to me, just seeing pics this is what I would do....

Move the TV - I know, alot of work - to over the FP. It appears to have an alcove on the left. Built in cab for the audio components and dvd storage. Bring in the 2 wingbacks across from the sofa with that super cool cowhide rug.

Then use your table and chairs where the Tv was. Your table and 6 chairs look a little cramped in the kitchen with the bar stools in there also. You could then make a sitting nook in your kitchen with 2 comfy chairs. Lose the gold drapes and embrace the western theme you have going - they seem too formal for your area.

My other thought....was in your computer floor plan to keep everything the way you did it but put sofa straight with sofa table behind and get some sort of lounge/chaise to go across from it. Somebody could lie down on that and still see the tv.

Wow...it always amazes me how some people get right down to work....good for you.

Glad you like the chairs there..I think it looks very appropriate. Nice that your tv swivels.

Small suggestions... Place the cowhide in the same relation to the chairs as it was in the other location...unless it is a fire hazard! Flip your sofa table to under the window beside it...unless it is in the way of the stairs. Safety first...lol. Also a little worried about the cord for the lamp beside the wingback....is there enough overhead light from your track lighting to lose the floor-lamp?

As far as the sectional goes...I hope the return would not block traffic flow from your dining room...whatever you buy make sure you can return it if it too big.

I am always nervous making purchase suggestions on this forum...easy to be an arm-chair quarterback with someonelse's home and money..lol.

Despite all the caveats, I think you are on the right track with a tricky space. BTW am I right in guessing you are moving from a western or ranch theme to a more transitional style with western influences?

johnatemp, you're right, I don't want to move the tv. That alcove next to the fireplace is really too small for the tv. Besides, there are cables coming from all over the house that get wired to the stereo that is with the tv. I had thought many times that I would like to make the area where the eating area is move of a lounge area. There are really too many doors in that area to make it a very cozy area. I have another area next to the kitchen that I'm doing that instead (and bigger). I have thought about removing the leaf in the table to make it smaller to fit the space better. Most of the time there is only 4 of us eating.

Chris, the rug is situated the same way it was in the old location. I have it setting back a bit so that the lamp cord can hide under it and remove the trip hazard. I like the idea of the sofa table under the window. That statue is over 50 lbs, so I need help with that one (and we were in a hurry to go furniture shopping).

I got some pretty good ideas while I was out. I'm thinking instead of a sectional, maybe an oversized chair with a couch or love seat? Either way, I'll only have seating for about 4 people (the corner in a sectional is pretty lost). I did find a curved sectional I liked, but it still only seated 4. I'm going to work on the end where the chair and ottoman are along with the table and chairs to see if I can come up with some more room. I'll take some more pictures and post when I'm done to see what you think.

Also, any light recommendations for the table where the recliners are? I'd like to have something that doesn't sit on the table, but still worked as task lighting. The guys do play chess there frequently, so I need something that doesn't sit on the table, but will still give hoof task light.

You're also right, Chris. I'm trying to get away from the log or cabin feel, and more or a transitional feel and try to accessorize with our horse "stuff".

Robbi, you are one busy girl and I admire your energy! Lately I've been mired down with indecision and I've been self-medicating with notes, and drawings, and lists, and more lists :) It's refreshing and inspirational to see threads like yours (so many on the ball people on the board!).

Wish I could help with your arrangement, but I get confused looking at the pictures. Not your fault, the pics are great. I have to say that I really like your curtains and what little I can see of your kitchen cabs :)

What about a swing arm brass floor lamp, similar to what you already have but taller? Seems skinny enough to be out of the way, too.

Thank you for the lamp suggestions. I think we finally have a furniture arrangement that we both like and have figured out what kind of big pieces we need to purchase. I haven't found the "right" furniture and haven't had much time to look lately.

Since painting the living room, the unfinished stairs were just begging to get finished. So, yesterday we had a carpenter come and rebuild the bottom of them correctly (the treads and risers were all different sizes and shapes). Now I have someone else that is supposed to come (he's not very dependable sometimes) do the finish work of new treads and risers. That will also help finish a little alcove that I have at the bottom of the stairs.

Anyhow, sorry to ramble. We're also trying to finish the basement and I'm working on plans to create a "library/music" type area adjacent to my kitchen (more to come on that!). I alway have to have a project or two going :-)

Keep us posted on your progress.

You're not rambling! I remember you mentioning wanting to work on the stairs. Your home sounds so interesting, with lots of neat spaces and beautiful architecture. Kind of funny how re-doing one room leads to re-doing another, and on and on...

It was no wonder your pics confused me what with the date being off and all (I restarted my pc and all is fine now). I kept thinking you had painted certain places and the furniture arrangements were different and I just couldn't figure it out.

I got sick with a cold that turned into a sinus infection - I have the urge to work but not much energy, which is so frustrating and stressful because we have so little time to get things done. Anyway, the kitchen is torn apart but we're having trouble getting all the cabinets we need (have to go with in stock, on the shelf type, because no time to order). My temp kitchen is in the LR, so no work going on there. Tools, supplies, etc. taking up my DR - everything is such a messy jumble, ugh. Have mostly been working on packing up 'extra' things and taking them to storage, plus the endless painting. Luckily two family members have volunteered to come help out during the last two weeks before dh leaves for his new job. I feel like I'm whining, so I'll stop :-)

I'm very interested to see what you come up with and what ideas everyone gives you for the music/library area. I have my grandma's 97yo piano and love to read - I would be tickled to have an area reserved for both in our new Denver home. I think you'll have so much fun doing that room - it could be a place where you go outside the norm a bit (or not, lol).

Btw, we live in NM and it's SNOWING outside right now! Such a rare occurence, and so beautiful and fun. Can't wait for my oldest two to get home from school and go out to play with them!
