I was hoping it wouldn't come to this. But DSIL ended up with the hysterectomy too. SHe is feeling much better.
I am sending my best wishes for a easy time of it. I know the waiting has got to be the pits, but try and think ahead to how great you're gonna feel very soon Stacy!!

I've had two abdominal surgeries Stac. Well actually 3 if you count my gall bladder. 1st was a Hysto in the 70's then they had to take my last ovary in 2004. They have come such a long way since my first surgery. I hope you have as easy of a time as I did with my 2nd. You'll be sore, but that should be all the discomfort you have. Best wishes to you and a speedy recovery.

I'm sure the hysterectomy surgery now is far different from when I had it, back in the dark ages, and it wasn't bad even then. So I think you will be fine.

Think of this before, during and after: my Doc told me to think of it as "taking out the baby bed and leaving in the play pen".

Thank you everyone...it is not that i won't be able to have kids though tha tis sad....as Steph struggles ya know...but itis just plain scared...other then a few ulcer surgerys you the ones i have had..and the d&c a few weeks ago it is the surgery...just plain don't do pain and discomfort well at all....scared yes thath also...thanks so much everyone for your kind thoughts and I will be here for sure tuesday maybe not monday getting the house clean etc....but I will see everyone then..thank sagain..Stacy

I'll be thinking of you - I've been in the same boat about one year ago. You'll be sore but the terrible pain for me only lasted about a week. Remember to take the pain pills, they really do help. Let all those around you do all the work. Remember to let others baby you. It really is alot easier than it was in the dark ages. Hope you have a speedy recovery and no bumps in your recovery.

Best of luck! You will just have 2 small slits, nothing like the length of one I and alot of people that had it years ago do. You will do fine.

When I had my hysty I was allowed clear foods.
Did you know jello is considered a clear food?
I got to eat as much as I wanted and it did taste good.

Are you doing the golightly thing?
My surgeon didn't require me to drink the whole thing. Just enough to make whatever was running through me clear and watery. And truly it was not that bad. Not eating was more of a problem. If you are still nervous ask him to prescribe
a valium or something the day before.

Tell them about the after-D&C headache and they can use another type of anesthesia which is probably what caused your headache.

I had gas after my surgery but you know what?
They give you a little button to push when you are uncomfortable and you will have no idea if you are farting or not.

Take it easy the first two weeks after the surgery.
My doctor said if it made me sweat or grunt I couldn't do it. You will be tired anyway after the surgery so staying quiet really isn't such a big problem.

Thanks alot everyone.....Yeah I am thrilled about eating and drinking only clear liquids.....I know jello even colors is cool but I love fruit in mine LOL....I don't have to drink anything lori ...but I get little pills to take all day tomrrow and she said stay near the potty thrill..LOL

I had mine 5 yrs ago (I THINK) Anyway....I'd do it again in a New York minute! the freedom is unbelievable! I had to live my life around how bad I was bleeding that day....And I had mine the old way,because theey thought I had cancer.I hurt bad for a week but after that it was fine.If you're getting the one with two tiny slits,it shouldn't be so bad.Will be thinking of you! Just think of the benefits after it's all over...no more pain,no more periods....it's great!

Stacy, I had this done about 20 years ago and it was a piece of cake. I felt great two days after the surgery but I was told to take it easy for two weeks, which I did.

**WARNING** The following may be TMI. LOL!!!

Mine was done vaginally so I didn't even have an incision! Is that an option for you?

Mine was done like Betsy's. No incision. I felt great after a few days. But I took the full 6 weeks off work. I did have to lift big rolls of paper at work (80lbs). They'd be stacked about boobie high and I'd have to drop it to/on my knees and guide it onto a spindle. It did take some muscle. But, the point I was trying to make is, I felt so good after a few days, I felt guilty being off work (NOT).

They are doing it vagianlly but the use 3 scopes to "see" inside me that is why I will have 3 little cuts...one on bellybutton and one on each side...........STacy

I had mine like Besty and a few others. It was done long ago in 1975 and they made me stay in the hospital for 5 days. Could not understand that, I was ready to go home the next day. I had no pain at all so never took even one pain pill.
I have always said the worst part of it was staying in the hospital 5 days and standing up for the first time is kind of strange. It feels like they stretched you open enough to drive a truck through! LOL
You'll do fine Stacy and will not regret for one minute you had it done.
