Where to buy Miele Washer and Gas Dryer?

Hi,

I'm new on this board and we're 12 days away from moving into our new home. After researching I fell in love w/ the Miele W4842 Washing Machine & T9822 Gas Dryer only to find that they are discontinued!!

Does anyone have an idea where I can locate them, I'm even willing to get the demo. At this point I'm so desperate I am even considering the smaller unit w3033 and T8003 Dryer but that's electric! Our house is not wired for the 220V and I'm nut sure how much it will cost or the amount of work required to convert 110V to the 220V. :(

If none of these options for Miela works can anyone suggest another brand?

I want something reliable that cleans clothes that is relatively quiet with minimal vibration since our laundry room is on the second floor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for you assistance!

Since you're in SoCal you might have a chance of finding a pair. Simply call Miele and ask where they sent their inventory of those two models in SoCal. Miele knows exactly where they send each serial number to their authorized dealers. This is how they base the Miele warranty and whether you need to send them a copy of the receipt should you wish to purchase Miele's extended warranty. Miele has the date the unit was shipped and received by the dealer.

K Kitchen in Buffalo New York has the washer as demo models. They have quite a bit of inventory. They have dryers but I do not know if they are the gas or electric versions. Good luck!

On dryers, it seems the bigger the better. As it has been noted, it is possible with the larger washers like Miele W48xx, Duets, HE5t, etc, to actually overload the dryer. I had the Miele T9800 for about 5 months. Some observations. Overall a good dryer. List price is actually reasonable (I paid $1200). A little smaller at 6.4CF than other competitive dryers (7-7.3CF). And limited temp controls and very limited manual timer/temp options. Almost too limited, YMMV. Loud, but bearable (mostly air flow sounds). Nice SS drum, filter, all glass door, and reverse tumble. Normal setting sometimes slightly under dried clothes, but not a big problem. I now have the HE5t matching Kenmore (Whirlpool) dryer. As posted, I returned my Miele W48xx machines. I did considered for a while just keeping (or getting another Miele T9800 dryer) to go with the HE5t. Eventually matching considerations and the ridiculously low price I ended up getting both the HE5t and dryer. The Kenmore high-end dryer as compared to the Miele is bigger (7 vs 6.4 CF), shocking quite (like real quite), seems to dry about the same- time/dry level. Very flexible temp control and timer/temp options. Almost overkill. but nice to have. Digital readouts (including time remaining) instead of Miele status LED indicators. No SS drum nor option to get one. Overall pleased but lack of SS drum is concern. If the Miele dryer was a little larger, a little quieter and had more manual temp/controls, it would be strong contender. The Miele looks like a high quality dryer, the Kenmore looks so-so. Looked at LG, and Samsung dryers. Both had SS drum options, but overall quality level seem to be more in the Kenmore/Whirlpool range and price about the same as Kenmore. Where LG and Samsung lead if a very big 7.3 CF capacity. So far I have not missed reverse tumble. I had it both on the Miele and older Bosch dryers. I don't think you need it on these larger dryer (or need is very reduced). On the Miele T9800, the reverse tumble was actually used very little of the time. It was also interesting on the reverse tumble phase because the dryer suddenly would get very quite- apparently just reduced air flow noise. This indicated the noise was not the mechanics of drum but just motor noise and air flow issues. My gut feel is the Miele could (or should) cut the air flow back for home use. For a commercial dryer, it is probably ok, but most home users would make the trade-off easily. Also, it is sucking your conditioned air out your home at a high rate. So no free lunch on reduced drying time (if any) over other more standard dryers. In a basement- yes. Upstairs- no.

Hey, I know this is an old thread, but thought I'd jump in for what it is worth... We were a test household for the Touchtronic washers & dryers, set up by a close relative working in the company who, bless her heart, thought she was doing a nice thing. Over the course of two years I cannot tell you how many times one or both was not working. They always sent a service tech within a week, but with 5 of us in the house a week with no washer or dryer left mountains of dirty laundry and kids wearing dirty uniforms to school (we can't have a clothesline where we live). They replaced the dryer twice during the test period, the washer once. If I'd had any money at all, I would have gone out and bought a cheap Kenmore or something, but that was not the case. At the end of the test period they collected all the test models and shipped them back to Germany for inspection because they had been such dismal failures. I was "rewarded" for the 2 years of inconvenience with two new machines, which were by now available in stores and ostensibly had all the kinks worked out. The washer has been fine but I am currently on my third service call for the month of June alone with the dryer. I am told by my relative that this was Miele's first foray into the "large capacity" world and they tried to cut production costs dramatically and met with massive failure. Apparently "large capacity" residential-use washers & dryers weren't a big item in Europe, so they had production of only smaller-capacity, efficient machines down to an exact science. The word is that yes, Miele is scrapping this particular line of washers and dryers and the new ones are rolling out right now (Spring/Summer '09). So I wish you luck and hope you have successful laundry experience. When my service warranty runs out next year, I will be getting an old-school, woefully inefficient dryer from Craigslist for $50 because I suspect it will ACTUALLY DRY THE CLOTHES. :) BTW, I LOVE my Miele dishwasher and both Miele vacuums. They are problem-free (knock wood!) and work wonderfully well, and my sister has 2 Miele wall ovens and a 6-burner cooktop, all fabulous and operating smoothly since their install 3 years ago. I took me a long time to get over the shock at owning a Miele appliance that was NOT top-notch.

Asko owner for 21 years. designed into a kitchen, as in Europe. They are quieter due to being used in kitchen, I find I can do a king size set of sheets, with 6 pillow cases quite fine. I dry my sheets separately since doing together has me doing another period. The high rpm of spins I like, has clothes dryer before drying. And some nice shorter cycles, a good cold water one, again so quiet you can eat in the same room and hear one another. I use a lot less soap powder , 1 Tablespoon per load, always the HE of any brand. I add 1 Tablespoon of Oxi-Clean also. some softener also. Very clean clothes. The looks, Great. mine are white, have it next to a Kitchen -Aid, white and wood cabinets. Now the down side. Replaced the set about 7 years ago, I think we just wore them out ! how 2 people need to wash so much. We have had several niggling things with the newer set, dryer is not out in the middle of the floor, belt wore out. Waiting for part. Ours are trouble because we designed them under a counter that supports a china cabinet, always needing to be unloaded because once the units are out there is no support for the above cabinet when fully loaded. In the process of redoing the bathroom to hold the Asko's, easier access if needed to work on. Note: I had a Maytag set (regular size) for 24 years with very little trouble. So, if they are not built in to make them difficult to extract and work on, they are really good looking.

I’m not the original poster, but have the same question. 2 people, with pool towels to dry most days, new laundry room with space for any side-by-side. Have had front load most recently, but would like to understand pros/cons of both front and top load. Thank you, any thoughts appreciated!

Ok I will give both a call. Not sure how one would ship the w/d across the country though. :(

I'm so upset at myself because when the builder asked if we needed anything special in terms of wiring I said no! I had no idea that I would fall in love with a Miele. So depending on the price to add the 220V I might be able to get the compact units which should be fine for daily washes (I like to separate my laundry by color and then material anyway and more often than not the loads are not that large.) And if I need to wash blankets or what not I will just go to my sister's. :)

Of course DH doesn't understand why I have to get a Miele! Sigh...

So depending on the price to add the 220V...

Depending upon where and how your laundry room is located, adding the 220V receptacle might not be a big issue. We are having our HVAC units replaced this year and during that process we will be adding 220V to out laundry room as a future selling point. Also, the gas model of the T9822 dryer you are interested in was obsoleted before its electric counterpart and availability might be slim.

Our laundry room is on the second floor. Hopefully we will find out from the builder how much work is involved and maybe we can get the cost. Knowing that info will help us decide what our options will be. Thank you!

I have to warn you that the model washer you are interested in relies upon mass (it's is nearly three-hundred pounds in weight) and sensors to attain its balance during the spin cycle, so if this is a new construction addition I trust provisions were made for a second story washer? (Provisions being a structural strenghtening of said area in relationship to the overall building structure.)

I have no idea how the laundry room was built! Since I didn't know anything about Miele until a few weeks ago (thus I didn't ask for the 220V outlet nor did I know to ask them to reinforce the floor). I'm just hope that since they have put all laundry rooms up on the 2nd floor on all their new constructions and this is a "luxury home" that they know what they are doing?

I will call the Sales office to ask again but it's a little late for us to add anything since we're moving in less than 10 days!

Plus they put a tray thingie on the washer side to in case it leaks... so I don't know how that will help or make the vibration worse! I am looking to buy the rubber thingies to see if that will help.
