Maytag Maxima X 4.1 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Front Load Washer

Does anyone care to share his/her experience with Maytag Maxima X 4.1 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Front Load Washer and dryer? Looking for a washer/dryer set and am overwhelmed with all the brands and choices. Thanks!

I cannot speak from experience but just the fact it has an electronic control board would be enough to turn me away.

Instead, may I suggest the Speed Queen AWN 542? This is the very last of the old school machines that don't need rebooted, firmware updated, nor do they need "cleaned" from time to time.

Hi Tracy,
I bought the Maxima set about a month ago, and I'm very happy with it. It holds a lot and cleans well. I wasn't looking for steam settings, but I think I like it now that I've used it.

One feature that I particularly like is the delayed start feature. Before going to bed, I load the washer and set it to start an hour before I expect to get up in the morning. When I get up, I pop everything in the dryer and can fold before I have to leave for work. This is very convenient for my style.

A month isn't long enough to tell you anything about reliability, but I can say that I'm pleased with the ease of setting water temperature, etc. Very nice set.

I'd go with the Kenmore, but upgrade to built-in heater. We just bought one to replace our old LG front loader, which died a horrible "tub seal death" but which had performed admirably for 7+ years. We loved that washer, and I really felt it would be difficult at best to replace it. It was a champ, washing delicates and dog beds, sanitizing stuff in our household when we had 2 cancer patients in residence, cleaning things that had to be hand washed. It did all of this well -- and significantly reduced our water and utility bills. The only time we had "mold issues" was when I used Costco detergent. Enter the kenmore 29272. I'm in love. The only downside I've found to this washer, for me (a short person) is that it can sometimes be difficult to get that stray sock that ends up at the far side of the tub. But for our needs, this washer is just about perfect, or as close as we were going to get with current options. It doesn't vibrate our house, it can handle GIANT loads of towels, clothes, dog beds, rugs...and it's done really well with hand wash delicates as well. It's quiet and mostly very intuitive. I'd highly recommend you consider upgrading your choices to this one. We found ours on sale at Sears (see my earlier posts) for not much more than the link you provided lists for the Kenmore without the heater. And they threw in free delivery. We got the model mvwb850q, which, I believe, is the same machine with more bells and whistles (glass lid, the internal heater, which we wanted, etc.). Got it in early March and both my wife and I have grown to love it. Went from 12 year old Maytag Atlantis convetional top-loader. Small water fill bothered me early on, but I now have a much better understanding of how these machines work, with the sprays of concentrated detergent/wash water, etc. Clothes are coming out very clean; finally getting a fresher smell in our towels. That may also have something to do with the added attention we are paying to how we do our laundry, now that we have the new machine. Some darks were showing a bit of white residue, which we think was from using too much detergent, so be careful about that. We are using less than the recommended amount now of Clorox Greenworks (new favorite) and still getting great results. We would buy this machine again. Good luck with your new machines.

Josephine, my Maytag (Bravo X, 700XL2) knows what to do with wet clothes. I use the rinse and spin cycle on DH's jeans most weeks, he can really get muddy. When that cycle is over (20 min) and the rinse water has spun out, I wash them using the 'bulky' setting with deeper water or it may not get residual mud from the inside of the pants legs bottoms. I would not put partially washed clothes dirty into my dryer to only have to clean the dryer. I freely admit he can get much dirtier than average laundry. (I've insisted he stand in the garage and strip more than once. No sympathy from me when he tells me he's worked all day and he's tired, he is not coming inside like that ;)) He's hiking off trail 4 days a week for his work in all kinds of weather through all kinds of terrain. Going through beaver ponds and falling off logs. My issue isn't dirty clothes not coming clean like I said above, it's only the amount of time laundry takes. We were at his sisters weekend house a while back and I put a load of towels in the older Maytag there, got to listen to the familiar sounds of laundry, big grin on my face. And 25 minutes later I was putting the washed things into the dryer, it was the first time laundry has been fun in a few years.

I'm only average height 5.5 and a 1/2..but I can easily reach to the bottom of my TL'er maybe because its an older one, and its on the floor, but that being said my body still gets mashed , almost like I'm getting a mamogram with every load I do..lol...but bending to remove each item from the dryer is worse, I like to fold each piece as I take it from the dryer, warm to pervent wrinkles and it kills my back..than because my laundry room is also a mud room someone always has shoes in front of the machines that I either have to bend over to pick up or trip on them. Sometimes it seems like a constant battle just to survive the mashing and bending/ twisting positions involved in the laundry room. I was looking at this set, too, as Costco has it for $1699 right now, including pedestals. It's a great deal and Costco's warranty means I could return it if I get a lemon that breaks down after the normal 30 day return period.

I am just hesitating because as SpeedQueen pointed out, it may be a better investment to buy one without a circuit board/electronics that can fail.

I have the Maytag Maxima XL MHW8000AW front load washer and I am very happy with it. I have an Ã¢ÂÂancientÃ¢ÂÂ Maytag Neptune dryer which will be 16 years old in February, 2014 and it is still functioning perfectly (although I feel I need to keep my fingers crossed every time I start it up).

I only have the washer for about 2 months, so I canÃ¢ÂÂt vouch for its durability but it does everything it should right now, including getting my clothes spotlessly clean. I have REALLY soiled work clothes from my husband and I can see the difference. If you donÃ¢ÂÂt have terribly soiled laundry, you may never notice the difference but it is there.

What I like best about it is the automatic detergent dispenser. I am never sure if I use the proper amount of detergent and this way, the machine decides for me. I also love the Ã¢ÂÂFresh HoldÃ¢ÂÂ option as it does really keep the laundry fresh if you canÃ¢ÂÂt get to it right away when itÃ¢ÂÂs finished.

My machine is on a basement concrete floor, but I have never seen it shake.

I also read somewhere (not sure if this is true) that no matter what your machine looks like from the outside, there are electronics attached to the controls where they canÃ¢ÂÂt be seen, so you may not be able to get away from them no matter what you purchase. If the electronics are your concern, you may wish to investigate this further.
