GE front load washer & dryer - recommended or not?
Comments (17)Front loaders take longer. That's just the way it is. And keep in mind if you use the heater it will add time to it and if you use the hottest setting it will add significantly because it has to heat the water. An hour to two hours per load is very common on a front loader. Now if you get a top loader with a heater, it too will take a lot longer to heat the water. A year or two ago there were several people buying this series of machines. Virtually all gave excellent reviews out of the gate but as far as long-term Ihaven't really seen much. Seems like the ones who got them aren't around anymore. That could mean they're very happy with them and chugging along washing away. I would think if they were irate with them, they'd be back to complain about them, wouldn't they? Unless they were banned or something. So, sometimes no news can be good news. If you know any appliance repair people you could ask their opinions. Might even be worth a few phone calls around to some reputable repair shops and solicit their views. Wouldn't be gospel, but might give you some more to think about. Wish I could be of more help to you!...See Morewhich front load washer and dryer do you like or not like
Comments (7)We purchased a Samsung '419 two years ago, and have been happy with it so far. The tipping point in our choice of the Samsung was the "diamond" drum (a patent-avoiding copy of the Miele "honeycomb" drum) that minimizes the pull-through of fabric tufts of clothing in the drainage holes during the high-speed spin operation. Only Miele and Samsung have a like feature. From the get-go, we have had an inexpensive surge-spike protector (ours is a Tripp-Lite Spike Cube) on the outlet where the Samsung plugs into the mains circuit. The few complaints you may read about Samsungs tend to relate to circuit board failures -- which could reflect a power supply not robust enough to deal with "dirty" electrical power; surge/spike protection is cheap insurance against damage to the circuit board....See MoreKenmore HE3t Front loading washer & dryer - advice please
Comments (6)Blackbelt consumer: Sorry to hear of your bad encounter with Sears. You know, when I first got those machines home and tried them on, I already felt that something wasn't "kosher." I guess we bought in to the sales talk too quickly. We never learned our lesson dealing with Sears. We got a Kenmore dishwasher. It was a smaller capacity one, but cost more. We got it because of space limitation. Before the year was up, it already had problem--the water spinner broke--it melted away! And of course the warranty period was over too. So, I was thinking to myself how could Sears sell such a shoddy product! Anyway, Sears will be history for me too. spark823: Thanks for the heads up on LG. Interesting thing is that a few people in this forum seem to have positive things to say of it, but of course until the problem becomes a problem, it's always ok. In all fairness, all things will have problems some day, but if the problems become evident too soon, then the product is no better than the top loaders. They seem to last for years. Only difference is its energy saving feature, but I wonder how much savings is worth looking into, considering all inconveniences one has to go through. By the way, I do use the new detergent that is made for front loaders. laudrytech: The only thing with our set is that we have installed a new vent, so there's no kink or clog as far as we can tell. Also, the machine being so new, there isn't any residue around the door. That said, I will look out for the helpful things you suggested for future trouble shooting though. Guys, I have learned something here and want to thank each one of you for taking the time to respond. Meanwhile, I've been thinking of reverting back to good old days--with the top loaders. Any models to recommend? Stackable ones are preferred. Thanks so much once again and have a good evening....See MoreLG front load washer/dryer
Comments (2)Meines, I completly understand. I had a LG combo for over 3 years and nothing but a service nightmare. I had about the longest postings on this forum. I will also never buy another LG product again. Six months ago I unloaded the machine. I still don't know what I am going to do. I have no washer and it is easier going to public laundry in my complex. It was such a stressful situation. It was really a Nightmare. Peter...See MoreRelated Professionals
