I just moved into a home in February. I heard a loud grinding noise that lasts about 2 seconds, and has happened a few times over the past month. I cannot figure out where it's coming from. At first I thought it was neighbors doing something in garage, but it's not them. It's not coming from the basement or trap door with heat exchanger for basement because I went down there and listened. It's at the upper level, and did it again this morning. It always happens about at 11 am. but it's only done it 3 times over the past month. The A/C is not on, and I don't even know it it works. The heat is not on either. There is a sewer manhole cover on front lawn, and wondering if there is some kind of sewer motor that keeps it moving out? The home isn't that old, built in 2007. I always go look outside and see no one or nothing going on. It sounds like a jackhammer. Anyone know ? (I'm not insane; mother had me tested. :- )

The class action lawsuit was a tad overzealous and played on a typical theme that big corporations are out to screw poor innocent (and perhaps stupid) people who weren't smart enough to wipe away the water that collected in the rubber boot (also known as a bellow), which over time mildewed and molded as dark damp dirty places tend to do--makes me wonder why there hasn't been a class action lawsuit against bagged vacuums. At six years old you are well within the time range of needing some sort of major repair for a washer--in average terms this time period started around two years ago. This could be something as insignificant as some change that was in a load of laundry a while ago that got into the outer tub. This could also be the result of failing suspension. Have you moved the machine recently or had an imbalanced load? Check he the machine and make sure it is level--the vibration of the machine after six years of use can cause things to move a bit and you may need to readjust the feet. Next take a look at the drive system belt and idler pulley(s). This could also be a problem with the tub or transmission; a problem with either would probably make it time for a new washer. No water leaks, right?

Since no one replied to my issue, I went ahead and replaced the Drive Block. The old Drive Block definitely looked worn out. It seems this repair worked. For I did three loads and I did not hear that loud bang noise anymore. I went back to the three websites to view the correspondences and noticed the Drive Block should level with the spin shaft's two tabs. Mine did not. So I wonder how long this 'fix' would last?! I did hit the Drive Block with the back of my screw driver and it would not go down any more. Plus, when I lift up the drum the old Drive Block was stucked in the drum shaft. I had to remove the Lint Trap in order to get the Drive Block out. Which I broke the Lint Trap and had to go and buy replacement part. $11 for a new design, four black round plastic, rather than the old one piece big white hard plastic part. Anyone out there is knowledgeable about this? Should I have replace the spin shaft too? IMPORTANT TIPS: 1. Spend the $15 to buy the Spanner Nut Wrench!! Even for one time use. The instructions show using a hammer and a screw driver to remove the spanner nut, believe me this does NOT work. I spent 15 minutes hitting the screw drive carefully and was not able to get the nut out. With the tool I did it in a few minutes. Even if you get the nut off for the repair, how do you know you can get the nut back in place with enough tightness?! 2. My local parts store prices are better than online stores 3. "Plumbers are taking my money and not fixing the problem" Why do you pay them if the problem isn't fixed? A large whole house arrestor may be required to completly cure the hammer. The machine isn;t at fault but you might try installing flow restrictors in washer hoses. They are cheap and diy friendly.
