loud grinding noise in house

Help I can't sleep! Loud noise coming from living room corner. Outside there is a vent sounds like it's coming from there. Near it is a pipe and ac unit which doesn't work
Noise is drowning out window ac unit.Sounds like a loud garbage disposal or washing machine. How do I make it stop

You will need your sleep before meeting this head on so I suggest having your mother spend the night to make it stop. Sooner or later mom will have to return to her routine and there is a chance it will return. If it returns,just go sit at the kitchen table and invite the unseen tormenters to join you to discuss their greivance. Above all else,do not move about the house looking at and feeling of things in atempts to narrow it down. That will only upset them farthur by trying to apply logic and brushing them aside. If by accident you see or feel an obivous elemet contributing to the noise,do not reveal that information to third parties while asking advice. Doing so will only insult the spirits. Just be presistant in asking them to vist and discuss the situation. BTW,asking mom to be on stand-by is always a good plan to fall back on if required.

Goodness! Could the AC unit have come back to "life" so to speak? Can you turn off the breaker to it to see if that is the problem?

Did that, still making noise. Could it be an underground pipe?

Rob, the right side has the same thing. If you'll look closely, at the end of the axle, wheel off, you will find a small hole. If you'll get a point tip for your grease gun or buy one if you don't have a gun, remove both drive wheels once per year and pump grease in that hole until grease comes out of the gear. This flush's out dirt and grit and leave a fresh supply of grease. Owners manual will tell you to grease these buggers once per year and will stop the problem from coming back. Yours is two years old so you should be fine. Early production did not have a hole in the end of the axle and one had to do the full dis-assembly you did.

Mower: Well you have validated a squeal rather than a growl . The Growl is normally a low speed very worn out bearing & race . The Squeal although similar can be related to just a "dry bearing situation" on a High Speed Application. So the answer is Yes ! Replace the bearing asap , to avoid any other subsequent damage . Mownie or Rusty and CG or Tomplum are the Resident Forum Experts on Lawn Tractors , You will have to Supply Manufacturer and Model Numbers for the Mower not the Engine for them to assist . We have an HE2 and I've noticed with the laundry room door closed I can barely hear it in the next room. So I'm guessing yours definately needs service! Seriously, there is no way it should suddenly start making a noise you haven't heard before -- but I can't even hazard a guess what it might be? I wonder if they may be able to give you some idea just over the phone with the repair line?

I just moved into a home in February. I heard a loud grinding noise that lasts about 2 seconds, and has happened a few times over the past month. I cannot figure out where it's coming from. At first I thought it was neighbors doing something in garage, but it's not them. It's not coming from the basement or trap door with heat exchanger for basement because I went down there and listened. It's at the upper level, and did it again this morning. It always happens about at 11 am. but it's only done it 3 times over the past month. The A/C is not on, and I don't even know it it works. The heat is not on either. There is a sewer manhole cover on front lawn, and wondering if there is some kind of sewer motor that keeps it moving out? The home isn't that old, built in 2007. I always go look outside and see no one or nothing going on. It sounds like a jackhammer. Anyone know ? (I'm not insane; mother had me tested. :- )

We have woodpeckers or some other bird that perch on the metal chimney caps in our neighborhood from time to time. It’s really noisy when they drum rapidly on them, like a jack hammer if you’re in the room where the fireplace is. Plenty loud outside, too. A mating sound?!

Sounds like an attic power fan exhaust in which the motor bearings have failed.
