Hey there. LED Pucks can be great. It's best for you to actually look at one or to use someone's judgement you trust. There's just a lot of junk out there. So you have to be careful. But I've been using them quite successfully. As of now, they'll never be truly warm, but there are ones out there which are quite close. The transformer (driver) can be placed anywhere you would put one for a halogen. So that part is the same. Some even come with plug in options as well.

I am not a fan of the halogen pucks. They do get hot and they are visible. I don't have experience with the rope LED. My impression is it doesn't give off enough light for working in the kitchen. I installed the Seagull Ambience lighting 8 years ago. It think it's a very good system. It is a low voltage system. Lynn, I suggest you try both the Cree LR6 and the Cree CR6. We tried both in our house and pulled out the LR6s and replaced them with the CR6 lights. The CR6 lights are actually less expensive than the LR6 lights but they dim much lower than the LR6 lights. The specs don't show a big difference in dimming but I can tell you the difference is very substantial. Also, the LR6 lights are more sensitive to the type of dimmers used, and we tried a number of different dimmers from the list recommended by Cree before finding ones that were satisfactory. The Home Depot Cree lights are rebadged CR6s, but they may have changed some of the components because the lifetime is 30,000 hours (I think) instead of the 50,000 hours with CR6 lights from Cree. Hi, Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and comments. Stan Z...My electrician will be installing Kichler LED tape lighting. He also plans to install Tape Light track. The lighting store designer explained to my husband about the purpose of this light track and she especially recommended this for my frameless cabinets. Do you think this light track will prevent the 'dots' situation related to the tape lighting? I do agree with you about Hafele ste. It is one of the most user unfriendly site I have ever used. Home ideations...my cabinets are not installed yet. So I do not have any pictures. Mark James...BTW, my cabinets will be Dura Supreme. I have never heard of wall cabinets with 'recessed bottom'. Do you have any pictures to share so that I can show it to my designer who they look like? Can aluminum channels from Hafele be installed with any brand LED tape lighting or does it need a particular brand of tape lighting? Thank you, Mindy
