Today a few times when I try to log in I get this message.

You have attempted to establish a connection with an.tacoda.net

However the security certificate presented belongs to "a248.e.akamai.net"

It is possible, though unlikely that someone may be trying to intercept your communication with this web site. I you suspect the certificate shown does not belong to "an.tacoda.net" please cancel the connection and notify the site administrator.

If I click cancel it lets me log on. I am not computer savvy enough to know what to do. Anyone?

Most pelargoniums are perennials. In South-Arica and countries with the same climate they live from year to year. There is one pelargonium that I know which can survive outside in climate more like North-America and Scandinavia, all others must be treated as annuals or have to live inside in the wintertime. But I think the main reason why we find both cranesbills and pelargoniums here is that in English the word geranium mean both plants. I have tried to educate people about this for 10 years now, but since there always will be new people to these wonderful plants I have given up and acceptet the fact: When I speak about cranesbills I use the word cranesbill; when I speak about pelargoniums I use the word pelargoniums.

Explain how to cook a turkey...to someone who can't speak English

Unfortunately I have no idea what their plan was. I felt bad because my communication was clearly not getting through, which is why it took so long to get even those basics across. This suddenly reminds me of a story I heard years ago, probably an urban legend, but here it is. A newly arrived immigrant family goes to the grocery store and ends up buying a can of crisco, fully expecting it to contain fried chicken parts as pictured on the label! I don't know if they realized the turkeys were plentiful because of thanksgiving or if they just thought that this was a regularly stocked item. I figured at the time that they were trying to get into the American spirit of things but looking back, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd only been in the country a few days and had no idea about Thanksgiving! I just have to keep telling myself that if they were brave enough to buy it, then they would be able to figure out if it was done after three hours or not.

Can someone explain where you would mount a soap dish like this?

There was a time when people had outdoor sinks when men worked outside. These soap dishes were used above the outdoor sink and possibly Ivory soap or some hog lard soap was used, the residual of which dripped onto the ground and killed insects and fungi lurking nearby. These were posted onto a pole which, behind the sink, held towels as well.

can someone explain the system in NYC?

We bought a co-op there two years ago as an investment/pied a terre (all the regulars on this forum heard about it in probably too much detail). First, you have to pick yourself off the floor from sticker shock. :) Then, the process is much as Talley_Sue outlined. The big difference in NYC from other places is that you are required to use a lawyer at the closing. We also used an agent to find the apartment, so she took care of all the paperwork -- getting us preapproved, submitting offers, and so on. I believe she submitted offers in writing, but I'm not sure. There is no contract until the seller signs, so you can submit an offer, have it accepted, pay a lawyer for due diligence, and then if the seller doesn't send the contract back you still don't have the apartment (this happened to us on our first offer -- the seller was just testing the waters, I guess; it cost us quite a bit of money). With a co-op, after you have the contract signed by both parties, you have to apply to the co-op and have an interview. This process seems to take about a month but can take longer if the co-op board is not accommodating. Because we were using an experienced agent, all of our paperwork was done and in order, so there weren't any problems with that. In our case, the closing was then a month after the board interview. The board of our co-op (which is small, but the management is handled by a large established company) is very businesslike and there was none of the nonsense you sometimes hear about. Our first offer that fell through, btw, was for a condo. I thought it was interesting that they required an application and asked for all the same information that the co-op did, including letters of recommendation, although they didn't require an interview. I'm not sure on what basis, though, they could turn a person down, other than lack of financial qualifications. Hope that helps. There's lots of info on the Web about this.

Akami is a company that provides services to websites, it's been around for 10 years, a lifetime in computer years. It was probably a hiccup in the iVillage servers, which allowed a usually unseen step to interfere with the usually seamless log on.

weed30, Should one follow the "I Spy" to rid our computers of the akami or just leave things alone. By the way I got the message again today on logging in.

It sounds to me like a pop-up. This site is rife with pop-ups and cookies. If you do a scan using your security software, clean out all the cookies, then log on to this site and post a message and run your security software again, you'll find you've got more cookies.

It hacks me off to have somebody putting stuff on my computer without my knowledge or permission, but everybody does it to some degree unless they make you pay for membership. It's how they make their money.

Are you using MS Explorer for internet browsing? If you do, go to Tools and see if you have a Pop-up Blocker, if you do, turn it on.

sally: I have an iMac X, and I got an actual site page NOT just a pop-up and without clicking anything; it just appeared along with the Delta Home Page. I dumped all my cookies immediately.

Enabling the pop-up blocker is something everyone should do. But this may pose some problems when you go to legitimate sites, so you may have to do some tinkering with it from time to time.

Unfortunately, cookies seem to get "planted" no matter what you have set up.

Attached is a link I found. I don't know anything about the software they're trying to get you to download but this is worth looking at to find out what tacoda is.

What I would do is go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run their online scan. You might have to download Java if it's not already on your computer. Housecall is what my computer guy uses as the first step to removing virus and I have used it several times where I used to work, where people downloaded every free little gadget they saw, not realizing that so few things on the Internet are free. Many of these things come with spyware, at best, and out-and-out viruses at the worst. One of the biggest messes I had to clean up was when one of the employees downloaded some free cursors -- butterflies and other things that were in constant motion. Not only did that constant motion slow their computers 'way down, but it held the door open for some pretty damaging stuff. Before someone came to me with problems, three employees had downloaded the same programs (recommended by the first employee). One of the employees didn't want to ask me for help and tried to remove the program herself and caused her computer to crash. That computer had to go to the shop. They were able to save all of her files but she did without her computer for a week.

I have Norton on my computer, but I find that it doesn't catch everything. Another good program to use, that is free and safe, is Adaware. You can download it here: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2008/3000-8022_4-10045910.html (copy and paste this into your browser)

In your case, I would run Housecall first. Housecall takes a long time to run, so be prepared.

Hope this helps. --Ilene

Interesting. I use Safari with the pop up blocker, and haven't seen that thing y'all are talking about. Maybe it's just luck. I don't know.
