Dining room rug, final chapter: It Has Arrived!

For those of you who have not been following along at home, the link to the earlier discussion of this saga is below.

When the rug company told me last Friday that I would get a shipment confirmation on Monday and it never happened, I started to get nervous that I'd never see this rug either. I was planning to call them today for some kind of update. Lo and behold, the UPS man arrived with a big package! Interesting, isn't it, because they supposedly shipped the missing rug with Fed Ex. Now they use UPS?

Anyway, the rug looks almost nothing like what I'd expected! And I looked at the rug on multiple web sites. I was expecting mostly a dark rusty color. Nope. However, I do REALLY like the rug. It is so much richer and more detailed looking than the old rug. And the timing is perfect because my new table is arriving tomorrow morning!

Wow, the color seems to totally different than the original photo. Do the real colors change your design plans at all?

No, it doesn't, really, because the only plans I have now are to recover the two wood chair seats in the room and have roman blinds made. I hadn't really started looking at fabrics yet. It still works with my wall color, and everything else in the room is pretty much brown wood, so that's fine too. The rug is a bit less brown IRL -- there's a dark red, a muted terracotta color very similar to my wall color, and a lot of an olive green color. Very much coordinates with the colors throughout the house. I am going to pull out the olive green color for the chair fabric, I think. No big ideas yet on window treatment fabric.

Also need a new, more colorful (and slightly smaller) pillow for the settee.

bonniee - Thanks for posting! stacyesq - I would really like to see pictures of your room before and after too. I'm sure you will like the quality of the draperies. They're so nice. I ordered them in the 96" length because we have 9' ceilings, and I wanted to hang them high. Now that we have the Christmas tree down, I can post pictures of the rest of the room, so keep watching for that. juddgirl2 - Yes, it's surprising that they fit alright. I absolutely had my heart set on panels, so I had to make it work somehow.

Thank you! The table kitty is Kira who is 7 1/2 years old. She is very shy and avoids people even me. She loves the dog Duncan and hangs out with him. The first two days I was in the new house Kira came to sleep on the bed with me and some of the other kitties. But now she went back to her old ways. She basically lives in the dining room. She sleeps on that chair in the corner, or on a chair, or on the baby blanket I have under the far dining chair. She is near the food and water and litter box. A kitty who likes convenience I guess. Her sister Kelly is the opposite. She is always sleeping on the bed and is very friendly to me. Getting this dining room cleaned up and decorated has lessoned my stress and made me feel better. Now I am working on the master bedroom. Got my bedskirt back on and hung hooks on the wall for the old pantry door which I use as a headboard. I took the door from my 80 year old house back in WI. I think I have the hooks in the studs. So when my friend Ivett (who watched the cats and dog while I was in the hospital last week) comes today (we are going out to lunch) I am going to ask her to help me hang the door. I used to be able to do these heavy things myself but not right now. Thanks again.

I agree that a funky, modern look is not in keeping with your beautiful, traditional room and furnishings! I love traditional Orientals, and one would look fantastic in your room, but if you want to go "Transitional" I think that would also work well. My sis has furniture that is very classic, as is her architecture, and she just purchased a paisley rug for her dining room. The background of the rug is similar in color to your walls, and the large paisley motifs are cream. The somewhat large scale of the paisley print offers a slightly modern twist on a time-honored design. It works really well with her traditional things, but also adds a little fun to the room in a subtle way. This mix reflects her personality well- she's an elegant, graceful person with light-hearted humor and down-to-earth warmth.

Great job, good choices, uncluttered and fresh. I wouldn't paint the little demilune in the foyer, but I would hang a very tall mirror just a bit narrower than the table. It not only gives you a place to check your lipstick on the way out the door, but throws light back into the room, and opens up the wall to increase the sense of spaciousness. Now that I have seen the whole room, I like the lamp I showed you on the other post even more in the scheme...but since you have a small table to put it on, you might consider something like this floor lamp to furnish the corner and put the light where you need it without taking up space on the table where you want to put down a drink or a book... It really does look like a different rug! I had no idea it had so many colors in it but I love them-- and how it looks in your room. I am seeing red,teal and purple on my monitor-- is that accurate? These colors could be a challenge in some rooms but from what I remember of your decor, these colors would fit right in with your home.

And how exciting that your table arrives tomorrow! I can't wait to see the finished room!

On a side note, I am still looking for a loveseat for my table. I will get the Marcel if I don't find anything else but I am hoping to find one that as high as the Marcel but longer.

I don't know how people shop successfully online. Still a very pretty rug! I'm sure your photo distorts the colors too. Even the pattern looks different. Guess a different size than the photo they showed you.

Funky, this must be one of those rugs that reads differently everywhere you look! There is no purple or teal. It is mostly shades of brown (the background color, which may be what appears purple?, is brown) and the teal color you see is more of an olive green. And yes, there is dark red. The red is what you notice first as the accent color, and the green is more subtle but there is more of it.

I hope the table delivery is a lot more straightforward than this rug delivery was!

Ha-- too funny! I am on a laptop today so it is probably distorting the colors. I am seeing a blueish purple in the house-shaped blocks (guessing that is brown?) and teal as the background on the border.

The table will look stunning on it!

Thanks all. I have a stash of fabric swatches from previous projects and found great fabric to cover the chair seats -- cream (same color as settee) and the same green that's in the rug, in a pattern that echoes some of the shapes in the rug. Today while I'm waiting for the table delivery I'm going to take down the old valances and maybe see how I like the room with naked windows....but I have a feeling I will end up doing fabric roman shades once I find the right fabric.

Love the table! The fabric sounds perfect too.

You know, if you ever happen on a great deal for a vintage settee with wood trim, I think it would look stunning with your table. The library has become my favorite room in your house. You need to start a book club!

Funky, originally I was hoping to find a vintage settee, just couldn't find the right one. I know what you're all about -- you want me to find another one so I can send the Marcel to you. ;)

Bar cabinet is on back order -- supposed to arrive mid-March. It will help the room come together I think because the wood is almost identical to my chairs, which are lighter than the table and the bookcases.
