It's welcoming and pristine and casual all at once. Nicely done.
I particularly like the very decorative kittycats, and the dog-as-throw-rug...
And please, don't talk about 80 degree weather. You're just gloating! Now, where did I put those extra wool socks...

It's a very nice room and I really like the way you've grouped the pictures on one wall but overall I think the room is a little too full and somehat cluttered. I would hang the larger picture next to the window higher to be symmetric with the smaller picture on the other side and remove the ornament above the larger picture which makes the two look even more asymmetric. I would remove the chair and the two smaller pieces flanking the large plant in the corner. I'd hang straight drapery panels at the window and would put a rug under the table. I'd probably also take everything off the top of the tall pieces. There just seems to be too much in the room that takes the emphasis away from the dining table and chairs, which should be the center of attention. I hope this doesn't sound terribly critical to you because I think this has the potential of being a very attractive room which is just in need of a bit of tweaking.

I'll be renting out our current home (which I love) when we move in a month or so and all I can hope is that our renters, whoever they may be, take as much pride and care in their space that you have done. It looks great! You have some lovely furniture, though I too would probably lose the chair in the corner just to create a space for the eyes to rest and allow for a little more room on that end.

I don't recall her asking for any decorating advice. LOL. The chair in the dining room looks like a great spot to sit, read, relax and enjoy the outdoors through the sliders.

Eileen, you have everything looking wonderful! You are definitely making it a warm, personal home, and I'm glad that you are feeling better. :)

I moved the chair in that corner because it did not fit in the living room which has 2 sofas, a wing chair and a long low entertainment center. It used to be in one of the bedrooms but now that won't work because that room is full with a full bed, dresser, and computer desk. Plus I like that chair there in the dining room because I can rest there while the dog goes out in the back yard and I am right there to let him back in when he barks. Plus I can look out the window while having my morning juice or coffee.
I just added another one of those scroll ornaments to top the picture on right of window. It does make the right side and left side of the window more balanced. I removed that white pitcher with the palm leaves and the small green pillow from the wood corner cabinet and placed that in the buffet cabinet. I took away the clock radio and placed that in guest room. I added a print - 8x10 horizontal - from the same artist that did the large framed print, the two black framed prints, and the four 8x10's on the soffit. That is on a black metal stand on left side of wood corner cabinet. It looks better now.

Thanks everyone. In real life the place is not crowded at all. Camera shots tend to make things look real tight.

Eileen, that looks great -- very inviting! I like how you hung the pictures up on the soffet (?) too. Kitty sure seems at home too. :)

You've been doing a lot of hard work -- even for someone who feels fabulous. Are you getting any relaxation in? Hope you can rest up some now.

Well done!!! Now rest and you get well. You can relax now and just sit and stare at what you've done. It's good to hear you so happy.

Eileen: I love what you've done with your space. It really does show off your talent for decorating since the space looks like it was very plain to begin with--as most rentals are. I love all the greenery and how you've brought the outdoors in.

And, Ingrid, no offense taken. I did add that extra scroll above the picture to right of window. You were right - the balance was off. The stuff on top of black cabinet are items I wanted to display but had no other place to put them. But I might try to take the glass blocks down and add them to my mismosh display of left over stuff on the shelves above my washer and dryer. I had to remove the doors that covered the washer and dryer because I could not open the dryer or the dishwasher with the doors in place. So my kitchen appliances are the frig, stove, dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer. My washer and dryer are the newest appliances in the room.

I might still add drapes to the dining room. I have those gold with rust on the other side drapes from Penneys with the dark wood drapery rod. I was waiting to hang all the rods and drapes after I got a job. But that has not happened yet. I apply but no responses. Maybe I should get a couple of lottery tickets.

Thank you! The table kitty is Kira who is 7 1/2 years old. She is very shy and avoids people even me. She loves the dog Duncan and hangs out with him. The first two days I was in the new house Kira came to sleep on the bed with me and some of the other kitties. But now she went back to her old ways. She basically lives in the dining room. She sleeps on that chair in the corner, or on a chair, or on the baby blanket I have under the far dining chair. She is near the food and water and litter box. A kitty who likes convenience I guess. Her sister Kelly is the opposite. She is always sleeping on the bed and is very friendly to me.
Getting this dining room cleaned up and decorated has lessoned my stress and made me feel better. Now I am working on the master bedroom. Got my bedskirt back on and hung hooks on the wall for the old pantry door which I use as a headboard. I took the door from my 80 year old house back in WI. I think I have the hooks in the studs. So when my friend Ivett (who watched the cats and dog while I was in the hospital last week) comes today (we are going out to lunch) I am going to ask her to help me hang the door. I used to be able to do these heavy things myself but not right now.
