Oh, I like lots which she does. I am currently gaga for her semiprecious metal boxes, esp. the pink fluorite (I do love pink!) -- can't afford them, but I like them!

I also love the way she hangs plates (an example, not my favorite, but I cannot find a picture right now).

I also loveloveLOVE her personal style. I love that she is so self-confident and so able to see on a different plane that she can and does put all kinds of things together and she wears them with great panache.

In general her taste isn't mine, and if I had the money or psychological need for a Name Designer she would never be one I'd choose (I don't want to live that way), but I really get a kick out of her.

Uh-oh, me too; I did not know of her and I love her concept of luxe, I think it can be adapted in a less luxe way also.

rm, I wonder if she started the interesting plate-hanging trend or if she just capitalized on it. There are many wonderful plate-hanging vignettes floating around on the web...The boxes are interesting, at first glance -- we do love rocks in this house--but I'm not sure how I feel about the major overpricing that must be involved with those...but isn't that the way with many designer things. You're buying the name and the story.

mitch, what I saw today is nothing I would have identified as her work before, but maybe that just means I didn't see the deeper currents in them. She recently skipped town from Hollywood Glamour and is into a more organic 70s look. The first pics that came out earlier this year made me *shudder* -- there was a wallpaper in a bedroom that made me literally motionsick. But these linens I'm still smitten by. They're subtle, interesting undulating patterns (not nausea inducing, though :)), textured tone-on-tone...I'll really be looking forward to seeing them and I anticipate they'll be knocked off mercilessly.

At least maybe the era of birds and plants in silhouette will be *over*! :)

Yes she has left HGlamour after everybody hop on that train wagon. Her recent article on Domino gave a glimpse of style du jour (brass & turquoise & mauve). It got a lot of heat but mark my word, soon we will be jumping on that band wagon as well. :-> Most people react negatively to this article but truth is, it's like clothes designer -- what you see on the runway & what you see in the store will be very different. By the time it reaches our hands, the original concept would've been distilled & diluted into something we totally want. :-> (how gullible of us!)

She has amazing sense of color & style. That much is for sure.

Well I'm back, and I searched around a bit more but still couldn't find the KW plate hanging I really liked -- it was nothing like the one I linked. In general, I don't care for plate hanging, but flyleft, I remember seeing in a magazine one she'd done which looked so random, so sinuous. The plates almost made the shape of a seahorse (not literally), but meandering this way and that, and they were hung much closer together than one ordinarily sees hanging plates. Anyway, I noticed it and the image really made an impression on me. I've no doubt there have been countless others who've done equally if not more interesting plate hangings, but they don't have the same loud, good PR she evidently does ....

And I know what you mean about the price on those boxes! It's scandalous. Honest to goodness I cannot imagine spending $4,000 on a tabletop bibelot -- that $4,000 would have to purchase the table and chair, too! And help pay for children's activities .... I saw the pink one in a spread (maybe it was Domino?) on her guest house, and, as I wrote, I'm such a pink-lover that I zeroed in on it -- the color caught me eye. But I really loved the idea of it. I have a few little (teeny) silver boxes encrusted with a blob of amber, of malachite, turquoise, coral, etc. I guess it's in my DNA to be attracted to rocks on boxes!

I wonder if that's the same piece you saw, because the wallpaper was (to my taste) revolting. The rooms reminded me of the worst of the '70s, all come to roost in one spot. Yech. But I did love that box! Here's a link to that article.)

I was just noodling around her website, looking at her residential projects for that plate hanging, and I have to say most everything looked really tasteful and lovely. The only one which looked over-the-top was her home, Hillcrest House, and I kinda liked it in a Tony Duquette way. (I still cannot believe that crazy Sharon Stone got to live next door to Tony Duquette and that he made her jewelry. So unfair!)

So I guess except for her guest house I like her stuff. Go figure!

I see brass, silver, nickel, bronze, gold leaf...and basically they all work nicely together there...

flyleft -- I just realized who you are. Thank you so much for your nice thoughts and suggestions (re: miscarriages) you posted on igloochic's drapery post. I don't spend enough time here (actually, I think I spend too much time online but that's a different story) to have "relationships" with folks and to keep all the user ids straight ... so I didn't put two and two together until now. I am so sorry!

Earlier this month I went for a hystroscope and there is NO scar tissue, either in the cervix or uterus. My hormone levels look pretty good, so all the fertility doctors and I can figure out is that my body is worn out from taking care of a two year-old with special needs, a "typical" four year-old and getting older myself .... My husband had the nerve to laugh aloud because he somehow thinks being a stay-at-home parent is in itself a huge break. A break from contributing to my Social Security! A break from intelligent adult conversation! A break from continuing my career! Sometimes I have to remind myself I love him. Or even like him. Or respect him. Grr.

I have a copy of Kelly Wearstler's "Domicilium Decoratus" which showcases her family home, the Hillcrest Estate. The book is fabulous - full of gorgeous rooms, pictures of her in formal gowns in the rooms, and pics of her cute little boys in their rooms. I can't wait to see her fabric line.

If I had oodles of money and could pick *any* designer I wanted, she wouldn't necessarily be my first choice :-) but I do love her personal style also! It can veer off into a little crazy (I'm thinking of the short pants that looked kind of like diapers), but I prefer that over boring :-)

I'm sorry, and yet somewhat relieved, to hear that you've ruled out one area of problem. Complete exhaustion can easily be a significant issue, too, though. Are you addressing adrenal burnout? I so completely understand the GRRRR if your DH doesn't understand or respect the stresses of the position you're in right now. My DH is pretty much the only person here who knows the pre-child me -- my colleagues back east (before this, I would have called many of them friends--my friends were all from my work, pretty much, except for neighbors) basically abandoned me when they learned I would stay home and homeschool...people don't get it that losing your identity is a *huge* ongoing source of stress in itself. I too worry about Social Security...haven't contributed since 1998...oy, has it been that long? Do you have other family who are supportive?
