Is this a single level home with a crawlspace? Depends on how the plumbing is running in the wall and ease of access to the drain lines. I'd get a plumber in there to look at the job, along with an electrician. More than likely you'll also need a carpenter or someone to open/close up the walls & flooring. Is your dryer gas or electric?

I guess it depends on where you live in Georgia. We live in the far SE corner. No zoning restrictions here. Anything goes. We had our washer outside for years because the previous owner said it leaked. I felt like a total redneck. But it was closer to the clothes line and I didn't have to carry the laundry down the steps. We may live crudely but we enjoy it and I feel closer to God living this way.

Not going to matter that it is on Septic. Looks like your dryer is electric?? To find out how much this would be, you would need to call in a General Contractor. Have a few people come on out, talk to them, and take bids... Your going to have to run new electrical for the dryer, and new drain lines for the washer. Plus new supply lines for the washer. But your hot water heater, etc. might already be in your garage (shortens the new run length.) But this is going to be involved; and I don't see how your going to get a fair and reliable estimate of time involved and expense involved - without having some trades people come on out... If your willing to read, and your husband is handy - this is something that you could probably do yourself - if you do it slow and take your time. If you get into the crawl space, you can determine some info on the drain line... (where it goes - if it is in the crawl space... and where it is totally NOT - if no portion of it - is in the crawl space...) A plumber can route a camera, and signal equipment; and tell you the route and depth of the drain... The city might also have the permitted plans on your house... ALSO - most septic have an 'AS BUILT' which can give you some info... (Like where the drain enters the septic...)

We did it in our old Victorian house for pennies. We turned a closet in the bathroom that was behind the tub (!!!) into a laundry closet with a stackable. Complete DIY job and I would definitely do it again. Our only "problem" was that the pipes up there couldn't handle the flow of water as fast as it came out of the washer. So the draining washer water backed up into the bathtub, which filled with about 6 inches of dirty water during a load until draining out. It never caused the tub to look dirty or left a ring or anything. We just lived with it as a quirk and I absolutely LOVED not having to lug clothes up and down to the yucky old basement via the yucky old non-standard basement stairs. The draining is something to really understand before you start demolishing your setup. We had no problem selling that house--everyone wants convenient laundry access and no one cared about the draining into the tub thing in this Victorian town. The hardest part was getting the stackable up the curving Victorian stairs. My husband and his friend almost toppled and killed themselves doing that. Just make sure you have a disaster plan in place--as for any 2nd floor laundry-- if something breaks or overflows, you don't want water all over going into the ceiling of the floor below. Use the best fittings that last (no plastic), the tray, etc..
